Well, after a whole week of banging my head on the keyboard, I think I've come up with something, partially at least, resembling a multiplayer map. I designed it with Execution/Warzone in mind, but I'm sure Assassination could work just as well. I'd put up screenshots, but I don't know how to do them on my laptop

It's the only download at here (http://hosted.filefront.com/Softchicanery/)

As far as basics go, I feel it's pretty complete. I haven't added in the sound effects for thunder and rain yet, and I might put another bit of cover or two in there before I'm through. The lighting needs some work, I think; it's coming off of less "ambient moody" and more like "Can't see [expletive], captain!" As to the physical makeup and layout of the map, I'm sure y'all will notice this isn't exactly a "classic" GoW multiplayer map; I'm not daft or defiant of the game's mechanics, I just designed it that way.

I've spent hours playing both single and multiplayer, and it seems to me that a lot of the "firefight" elements of SP have disappeared in MP; I'm starting to get flashbacks of playing Halo 1, except instead of being sniped with the bloody pistol, I'm either getting punched in the back with a grenade or shot in the knees with a shotgun. This map isn't so much "revenge" on people who follow that up-close fighting style as it is a challenge to them and other players, especially those that miss jumping between bullets to a crucial piece of cover instead of waiting for some fool to come around a corner and get his face shot off: less close-quarters combat, more marksmanship. In fact, with the way I designed this map, if you try rushing your opponent with that pump-action blazing, then you're going to get mowed down :D

Anyway, give it a whirl and get back to me with your comments and criticisms. Be gentle, though; it's my first time :o

Thanks for the pics Master Damage. By the way, do you have this game on low settings?

Thanks so much for the screencaps, MASTER DAMAGE. I'm running Boot Camp on my Macbook, and some of the Windows commands don't work ><

It's mostly on high at a resolution of 1280x1024. Maybe it's just the pictures.

Oh. But in the first screenshot, it looks terrible. Just take a look at Marcus, the lighting is terrible.

I know, the lighting is kind of blinding and distorts alot of the textures.

I think it might just be your graphics, MD. Even though the light is really high, I can stand smack-dab in front of the spotlights and still make out the little doohickies on Marcus' backpack and whatnot =/

The light there IS pretty bright though, I'll probably tone it down for the next version.

I can tell some areas need a lot of work on lighting. It's too dark in a lot of areas. Add some softer lighting if you wanna keep that dark and gloomy feel, just make sure we can see the ground and walls...

Here are some pictures at 1600x1200 scaled down to upload to photobucket. Everything is on high graphic settings, running at 45 FPS.

Try adding a subtle skylight. I found a low level light, around 0.3, kept the "gloomy" feel of my map but brought out some detail in previously too-dark areas. You can alter the light colour to better match your overall colour scheme.

I did add a skylight, but I couldn't get it to a mix of dark and bright that satisfied me, so I set it to .005. I'll try playing around with that some more. Also, how do I get it to change colors?

You can adjust the colour with the actor, it's next to the Brightness. Click the arrow, and set the RGB to match the general "sky" colour. So for dark grey clouds pick a similar colour for the light. 0.005 will hardly do anything, as I said I reckon 0.3 is a sweet spot. You can always try directional light with a huge distance so it hits all the map - would be good if your sky has a moon or cloud break. Add a dark / midnight blue directional light, set quite high maybe 0.75.

Looks good, alittle narrow but still good. Looks very urban; Marcus is like WTF no Locous just kids spraypainting me...

Another question, how do I get that fuzzy, things in the distance are sort of unclear effect that just makes the graphics and whatnot really "pop out?"
