Hi guys, I've completed my own remake of UT99's DM-Liandri. If you liked the original DM-Liandri you should also enjoy this one. It looks very much like the original map with the bright colors, low poly count and BSP brushes. It looks "old school" so you might not like it if you are used to UT2004's and UT3's stunning graphics. It does play well though so I hope you guys will have fun playing it.

BTW, BFTP stands for Blast From the Past, a prefix I'll be using for any remakes I do in the future.

I'm aware that someone else also made a remake of Liandri, but I guess this at least gives you more than option hey :)

You can download the map from here:

Igno's remake is much more UT3inized than this map. That may lead to people using your remake as more of a competitive map than his since yours looks mostly BSP without all of the PC consuming effects etc.

Sorry, I'll stick wiv Igno's version ;)

why not have both?.... they look totally different texture wise...

this version looks like it will run better on lower end systems (like PS3 ;) )...
keep up the good work!

Yea I'll be checking out this version, as I have an older system as do many others who are trying to play TDM competitively...Ignotium's version went a little too crazy on the meshes etc and mid runs pretty bad, simple maps like liandri should run better than 35fps even on older computers. This may be better for competition, I'll check it out and report back.

Igno's has the feel down well, plays nicely, but could do without the decorations.

I still can't agree with that, if people really want remakes without any type of eye-candy stuff in it then why not playing UT99 instead of UT3.
Sorry, just my opinion but I cannot understand the sense in that.

Thanks, I appreciate the comments guys. This is my first map and I'm such a big fan of UT99 I thought I may as well do a remake of Liandri for old times sake. But I do think there is a place for a proper UT3 version too that actually looks like a modern map. I don't expect my particular version to be such a big hit, just thought someone might enjoy it.

If you guys do find any problems, lemme know as I do know about one or two things. They aren't too serious though and shouldn't effect playability.

Regarding the lighting. Yeah, it looks kinda disco, and definitely not professional, but hey, back in '99 we thought it looked ultra cool, haha :D

To be honest I feel the same as earlier post. To much of the same type of which we have on our shelves. This is a new era. Utalizing the meshes and things brings it in this Generation.

Maximus...Thank you so much. This is sweet. Brings s little magic to UT3 for me. I started playing with UT. I would like to see more souped up 99 maps. The dark. dingy, oriental DM maps are getting old. I love them, but there are too many of them. Again, thanks.

Yea but the thing about UT3 is, it's tiny and UT99 players systems can't handle it so they don't bother playing it.

Even people with great PC's would rather play DM-Deck-FPS than the crappy stock version.

People want GAMEPLAY out of these maps, they aren't here to look at in singleplayer mode and look at the decorations on the walls.

After playing the map, it's definetly too small you'll need to scale it larger. I would refer to ignotium's version to try and get the size right, he did a great job scaling it. I hate to say it but I think ignotium has this map pretty much wrapped up, especially if he's releasing a tourney version without the extra stuffs. Gothic remake would be sweet in UT3 :)

i had ut99 opened at the same time and played both ut3 and ut99 back to back see how different they feel. your liandri seems a bit small yes, but ignotium's is a tiny bit too large. i think the scale should be somewhere in the middle. playing ignotium's remake it feels like a neverending journey when you dodge around the ramps. he did however put a lot of work in it and i no longer expect any major stuff to be changed. your version, however, would be easier to rescale and make it slightly (15% +/- 3) bigger.

few things to note:

- the metal fence at sniper is a bit too high. makes sniping annoying. i do know you can just jump on top of it but still it should be smaller
- the floor is ok but feels a little out of place. compared to the rest of your map, it's too shiny and with too much bump mapping
- the cutout on shock and the ammo is way too small. you can barely move around and dodge/jump from shock to ammo. you should enlarge it and make it stick out a bit more from the lift. look at ut99 liandri for reference
- you bump your head on the ceilling and can't dodge freely where the two health bubbles are

obviously the most crucial of those is the scale.
