You cooked that map with permission? I don't know man, I feel guilty downloading it without the author's consent. I'd at least like to see the author's take on your cooking his mod first. :/

the author ok'd it to be cooked along with any others he made.
besides, why would anyone in their right mind not want it played on the PS3. It just doesn't make any sense for a person to refuse for a map to be cooked for the PS3.
If they don't want to then I will.

That post right there makes it sound like you didn't even ask him...

look, I know he said it was ok so it doesn't matter.
It's not like I'm driving off with his car without permission, it's a freaking map for pete's sake. If you put a map on the internet then it's fair for someone to cook it for the PS3, end of story.

Yea, that post did make it sound like that. But Nawrot posts here pretty often right? He should post here to confirm or deny. Though I will ask this. Wouldn't Nawrot have to give him the unpublished data to convert it? It's not like you can convert it right from the PC version of the map. Or can you? Anyway, I hope I get to DL this map. The PS3 needs more CTF and VCTF maps. And this is a quality CTF map.

Yeah, I would like to hear the Author giving clarification on this.
It would REALLY be a sweet map for the PS3, so if he does not want it on there, Ill delete it off my Hard Drive.
But until then, sorry, im going by both sides of the story.:p

This GameFAQs thread seems to suggest that cobra911 has been acting without permission:

^If I ever posted on the gamefaqs forum, I definitely would never admit to it.
Anyway thanks for the map. It runs great on PS3 and it's just cool. It's a small map that would obviously be really hectic. It's cool how at the beginning of the map a big tentacle lifts off the flag, and when you score the fury thing swoops in. Just very cool map.

I and many others will not d/l maps that have not been ok'd for ps3 cooking by the original author. Unless you have proof that the author ok'd it, I will not d/l it, and I should hope that the rest of you understand that you shouldn't either.
With that said, I do hope you got permission because the map looks great, and you would otherwise look like a complete tool if you drove away UT3 map authors for not asking permission.
Unless there was a formal statement put out by EPIC stating that all PC mods would be cooked for the PS3, as a warning to all mod authors who had the intention of only releasing a map for one platform, I think it is a necessity to abide by the wishes of the authors.
Not to mention how confusing it is for users if several people start cooking the same content for the PS3.
Like the second copy of the same Thorns-map :

If cobra has obtained permission from the map author to cook the map for PS3's or wishes to provide a cooking service for mappers, then that is fine. No need to flame him.
I would only recommend that cobra uses due diligence to get permission and to make that very clear on any of the posts and links to the PS3 version. Even the download information on hosting sites should include information about who the original author is and that cobra has permission to cook and upload the map. Otherwise the hosting site will remove the file if they find out otherwise due to legal reasons.
Beyond this, my feelings are: welcome to the UT mod community PS3 gamers.

I don't think anyone has flamed him. I simply said what I would think if he did it without the author's permissions. So far, I haven't seen Cobra ask permission nor has he shown evidence that the author gave his permission. In fact, Cobra has already tried to cook a map where the author definitely did not want it on the PS3 (the Halo maps). Then he's said in forums that he doesn't care whether he gets the author's permission, he's going to do it anyways.
So yeah, if I don't see the author's permission on this map anytime soon, I'll see what the mods have to say.

I don't know why some people think u always need the permission to convert a map to another platform.
First u don't alter the mod, second u do not claim it as your own and third :
If I were the mod author and somebody ported my mod over to lets say XBox I would be thankful that he already did it for me so I don't have to do that as well, next to making the mod.
Let's say if u want to convert a .mp3 into an .ogg. Do u ask the author for permission first? I don't think so...

Yes I said in another topic that is fine to recook my maps for PS3. I wanted to cook it by myself, but as that sideproject to CTF-ThornsNEC i did not mind somebody else doing it. Well basically it was my dimension template for that other map that I put paths, but also because of it i did not setup assault paths and defense points, but it is so small map that bots know what to do anyway.
Also with other of my maps for PS3 please pm me and I send UNCOOKED version.
Nawrot

Uh you recooked CTF-ThornsNEC :D
Well then small addition:
- there are those empty spaces below flags, i wanted to fix it.
- also all kismet events caused a lot of trouble and nobody gave feedback if they wroking on others computers.
so i have few questions:
- do those crushing tubes after flag capture appear correctly? ie are they textured?
- are there any trouble with collision after tube animations, sometimes collision volume was not reseted
DSKEmilio

The tubes have textures on mine. They seem to work fine, just like the in-game tubes.
I haven't collided with the tubes, so I'll get back to you on that one.
EDIT: I haven't seen anything particularly weird happen when the tubes collide, they act normal. That fury flies in the way it was programmed to with no problems... The tubes however, do NOT have textures around the tentacle part. It's like a solid white strip. Might have just been the lighting going bad, but it looked like a white solid instead of a texture.
I also noticed that if you have uberboards on... When you land from a jump while on a board, you slip into the underwater portion of the map and get stuck in that watery underworld maze.

Funny thing is Epic didn't ask the authors' permissions when they cooked those first mods they converted themselves.
Do you have a link to proof of this statement?
And did they distribute those publicly?

Because you do have to ask permission. Both for copyright reasons and for common human courtesy.
Converting to another format/platform is altering the map or mod.
If someone is offering a conversion service, they should always get permission first from the mapper.
Do you legally have rights to the .mp3 (or did you just download it from a file share or rip it from a CD, in which case you do not have rights to it)?
Are you converting the .mp3 to an .ogg and distributing it publicly?
If you answered no to the first question then you do not have rights to that .mp3.
If you answered yes to the second question you have just broken the law.
IP and Copyright laws are there for a reason. To protect the original creator of the works. Just because you can rip or convert something doesn't mean you have the rights to do that and distribute it to others. In my opinion (this is still not legal), if you do it strictly for yourself and your own personal use, then fine.
As I have stated numerous times already, simply read the posting rules on sites such as FileFront, Mapraider, etc. If you are not the original author or have rights/permission to upload a file there, you can't, and they will pull it down if they find out because it puts them into legal trouble.
There have already been lawsuits brought up against people in the UT community over the years, I urge you not to put yourself into that same situation, I know I wouldn't want to be there.

Oh that is because water collision is set to not collide with karma, I wanted bodies to fall down there. Probably uberboard mutator uses karma to check collision.
