Looks nice! Downloading now. The more well made CTF and VCTF maps that come out, the merrier! 6 of each just doesn't quite cut it.

Just tried it. LOVE the level design. The only minor quip I have with it is that the frame rate takes a little dip whenever you're looking at the trees in the exterior (they are nice looking though).

Nice map thanks again!

As said by mike it does drop on the fps a bit when looking at the trees. It is definitely noticeable. You can tell the PS3 is being taxed. Besides that the map looks amazing. Maybe you can drop the res on the trees when you get a chance. I am sure all the PS3 players will appreciate it. Thanks

PS- Congrats on bringing the FPS down on the PS3. That is what I call detail.

umm.....why is it in .rar though?.... it should be a standard zip file.... otherwise i have to get winace or something to use it..... well... thanks anyway... i'll find an alternate route.... we need more CTF maps... the game didn't come with enough.... and too many people make DM maps... great job...!!

Edit: yeah, i ended up having to get it from UT3Mod.com.... i think to stay consistent, and to keep things less confusing... please make future PS3 mods in the Zip file for this site... don't get me wrong... this map is awesome!! it was really no inconvenience for me... i think a lot of people might not get to play your map on PS3, since you used a different system.... great work though.... can't wait for that other map of yours to come on through to the other side...

Umm, you could download winrar for free, which extracts .zip, .rar, .jar, and some others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

I wonder if it's really the detail taxing the PS3 though. I noticed there's tons of HOM (hall of mirrors) behind the trees, and I remember from the last time I mapped seriously in Doom and Quake games and such, that having that meant your map was 'open' and would cause slowdowns like we're seeing here.

I just would think the entire map would be slow because it's so open if it wasn't the open parts of the map that was causing the problem.

I have no idea what that guy is talking about with the rar files, I think every single one of the PS3 maps I'd DL'd have been in .rar

Thanks a lot for cooking this one up though, I should be able to check it out soon!

hey i like your map. but there are some frame rate issues when you go outside on the ps3. feels like there's to much texturing in the trees. but well done.

Must not stare at the pretty deadly trees, causes major framerate dips

So, has anyone tried the new version of the PS3 port? Do the new trees still hurt the framerate?

So, has anyone tried the new version of the PS3 port? Do the new trees still hurt the framerate?

Is there a new version now? Where can I find it?

Edit: I redownloaded the PS3 version and the framerate drops are still there whenever viewing the trees.

well... i have had it on PS3 now for a few hours.... the map has slowdown issues... especially when using mutators like the speed one.... intact, the speed mutator makes the map hideous... the whole map looks like soft served icecream...lol.. and it has this visual issue with no mutators, but only when there's some serious action going on.... other then these few issues... its a great map.. theres bigger maps out there that look great... so there is something weird going on here.... it shouldn't have any slowdown in an instant action match... thanks anyways... keep up the good work

This is a really sweet map. I like the searchlights and just the feeling of the map. The framerate does take a major nosedive on PS3 when you go outside though. That's unfortunate, but thanks for trying out the cooking tools jayoplus!

Tried map and had fun, but the trees where a issue. Perhaps the TC could make a Ps3 version with " a little " less on the detail.

Good work however! Awesome!

Nice map but like others have said, the frame rate takes a major hit at times. If a revised version is released I'll definitely play it, but as it is now it's not really playable.

It's all the moving leaves. The more moving leaves on screen the choppier it gets. It would play perfectly if so many weren't moving onscreen at the same time. You can even see trees in the distance moving. Do mid-level PCs have a similar problem?

jayoplus

Thanks for feedback.
Sorry for the late response. I suppose I didn't expect this many issues.
I will remove the trees in the PS3 version and reupload or maybe get ones that would require lower memory. I really was expecting this sort of issue with PC users :)
And I will ZIP it this time.
I will post updated link when that is done within the next 24 hrs. I'm not at my home computer at the moment.
Again, at least, I'm glad people at least like the map :)

I dont have any real issues with the trees moving...but i have massive frame rate issues with lighting in mid area on the walls, down the ramps from flag looking down forward tunnel...those are the 2 biggest areas with frame rate dropping by about 70% at times. I am running intel e6850, asus maximus formula, 4GB Ballistix PC2-8500 1066 and evga 8800gts crysis edition...so my sys can handle things well enough but there are those out there with less that would love to be able to play maps like this.

I did take some screen shots so if you want those for reference, pm me and i will get them to ya.

Love the look of the map though.

I feel that there will be people that wont play this map so much due to framerate loss. I just read some info over on the Atlantea map thread that has similar issues. Hopefully soe of these issues can be resolved, the map has potential...

Cheers!

Jayoplus, thanks for responding. I don't think you have to totally take the trees out. The model you are using for the leaves looks great. If there is just a way to turn off the leaves shimmering in the breeze, it would run perfectly on PS3. Otherwise it's perfect. Your design is flawless, it just exceeds what the PS3 can do I guess. I wish the moving leaves didn't slow down the PS3, cuz they are a great thing for the map. It really brings the map to life.

I agree, don't remove the trees, since that would take out of the entire experience, I'd recommend changing the leaves to the low res versions found in most other maps.

There's nothing wrong with the maps though, it's just too beautiful.:p

is it really the PS3's issue?.... i'm seeing people with a PC that runs Crysis having problems running this map.... and i have played much bigger, detailed maps with no issues.... my slowdown has been inside, and around where the flags are on both sides...

also, i am a little confused here, how many PS3 versions have been released?... and where do i go to get the best running version?.... does Ut3MOD.com have the most recent?... thanks to anyone who answers my Q's...

Larry L

I think I just got confused or something. I don't think there is another version yet, and if there is, it didn't fix the problem. I'm glad to hear that PCs are having trouble with this map too. As well as other intricate maps. Not to sound happy PCs are having a problem with it, it just tells me that it isn't just a "PS3 can't handle it" kind of situation.

My new pc does run crysis well and I have a few issues with this map. Nothing big... it drops to 40fps sometimes. Although that is with vsync enabled at 1680x1050 using UT3Tweaker 3.5 maxing to the max. However, it shouldn't happen. I would expect it on Atlantea because there's too much **** packed in one scene which is bound to make any engine bog and cause framerate loss. Congrats, you've created the second map to make my fps drop.

I hope you don't mean this to be final.

First off, this is a really nice map and it plays very well. It doesn't feel completed, though.

1) Everything looks so foggy. Are your room lights like in a gray color? If so, change it to blue or something. Better for the eyes! ;)

2) Very nice vehicle models you used there, but as you can see there are (plenty) texture issues.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a352/MzStud_K/ScreenShot00014.jpg

3) Same goes with some other parts of the level.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a352/MzStud_K/ScreenShot00024.jpg

4) Here's a bad graphics problem. I suppose there's just a (textured) wall missing.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a352/MzStud_K/ScreenShot00022.jpg

5) This here looks kinda weird. Maybe flatten the green.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a352/MzStud_K/ScreenShot00029.jpg

6) And finally, in some parts you can walk on air. Although it might hurt the design please make this flat and paste a nice texture on it.
http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a352/MzStud_K/ScreenShot00028.jpg
Here's also another error: where the sniper shot hits the models with the dark textures fight with the rocks about who's on top. Sometimes you see the dark texture and sometimes the other one. (Two faces at the same height.

As I already said, it plays very well and I really like it! It would be sad if you'd call it "final", though!

Could you possibly make a more ps3 friendly version? The trees really kill it. Perhaps delete alot of textures. Alot of people actually leave my server when this map comes up, no offense but its get some horrible screen lag.

Great design however.

I am doing that right now and thanks again for the feedback.
I would probably have had another version out by now if not for the frequent crashes I'm having.
In any case, I honestly didn't notice any of these things when I played through the map and tested it.

I suppose it's not fully final then :D
Sorry about that and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks again.

So I guess this never really went fully final......oh well. I noticed the sky looks good, but some of the textures/meshes look blurry even though I did notice lots of good details at the bases and between them; it almost seems like the map might be a little too detailed in places but maybe not. The helicopter with the Udamage on top is a nice touch and I like trying to get the Udamage on the way by. I didn't play it enough to see all the slight issues, but the trees seem fine to me with no serious frame rate problems. The gameplay is good with many paths and the bots are decent.

Also, I resisted downloading anything but zip files for as long as I could, but too many new formats were getting popular like RAR, 7Z, etc. I finally had to just go ahead and download those also; otherwise, I'd miss out on some good maps.:)

Thanks SkaarjMaster.

I occasionally do the same but I tend to avoid sites that re-archive a map author's original files. I've seen one too many cases where files were missing or the create/modify dates were not maintained -- which is sometime is the only way to determine if you have the latest version of a map.

Is that what utzone.de does?

Not 100% sure, but it seems like many of their downloads are in 7zip and I know some of those releases to originally be in ZIP or RAR format. Not that there's anything wrong with 7zip. Like I said, I prefer maintaining the author's original files in-tact. Even if it means a few MB.

I've added the files that unrealloco posted links to (as their file dates seemed to be correct) to Mapraider's three mirrors in RAR format, which appears to be the original distribution format. All the other mirrors that have been posted are listed on the page as well.

Thanks everyone! Glad to know that maps that I thought were gone for good aren't always so :)

Thanks Schotti - but are you sure? I did a byte comparison on the UT3 files and they're not at all the same.

The UT3 file in the archive you posted has a modified date of January 8, 2008 and the bytesize is 59029430.

The one that unrealloco posted (and I put on my mirrors) has a modified date of September 25, 2008 and the bytesize is 59033845

So it seems that the link you posted might be an older beta version. This is a great example of why I beg authors to put versions in their filenames :)

Schotti|UTzone

if one compares the date of the posts, it should not be a beta

Yeah, I noticed that ... but that doesn't explain the newer version floating around. jayoplus may have updated it later in the year and just forgot to update the post. I think I'll PM him. If he sees it, hopefully he'll be able to clear up the confusion.

Thanks though.

Jayoplus was quick to reply to my PM and provided an explanation.

Basically, he re-cooked and re-uploaded the map to FileFront because it got deleted and suspects this re-cooking is the September version. He doesn't believe that he made any changes to the map in that second re-cook.

So, both versions are essentially the same despite the different modification dates.

Mystery solved. Now back to fragging :)
