Hey guys, I have recently just purchased GOW for my pc not too long ago. After the installation, I have tried running the game. But instead of it starting, it tries to download a launch.cab file. It wouldn't run the game at all. I open the file, and it shows two folders: images and strings. and two other files named default.htm and default.css. Im so clueless as to whats going on. This is my first encounter to this problem. Any help would be deeply appreciated, thanks.

wait, your install only shows two folders? Something isn't right about that, try uninstalling and reinstalling; also, try manually applying all of the patches instead of letting Live do it for you, that might work around it. But try reinstalling first.

This used to happen to me before. Did you apply all the patches through Live? That stopped this happening to me. When I did get them though, I just restarted my computer and it would load up ok.

are you choosing the drive to install to? I believe that if you install to the C: drive then this problem will not happen. Also clear down your temp files before installing.

I dont have it installed in C: drive. How do I manually apply all the patches?

definitely install it to the C drive first, then if you want, go to gearsofwar.com for the pc game patch, and probably some official xbox/windows Live site for the other patches, i dunno if they have patches u can apply manually or not for Live though, but I'd guess that they do

yeh I would certainly recommend installing to c: in this instance... if you are running Vista try running the setup with the "Run As Administrator" function and if that dont work try doing it in compatibility mode with XP SP2.
and uninstall the old stuff first... good luck!

hmmm...ok I will try and install it to the C: drive, but right now I do not have enough space to do so. And btw I have XP SP2, not Vista. Also I have downloaded the title update from the site, but that also did nothing at all. I mean I have Crysis up and running flawlessly, just not this game.

Alright guys, I appreciate it. I've done everything you've have told me, but now im experiencing a different problem. I run the program WarGame-G4WLive live from my binaries folder, a window opens up, and I would hear everything in the background as if I am playing the game, but then a message comes up and says: "to play gears of war please double click startup.exe" then closes the program. I then double click Startup.exe and the same problem occurs, it tries to download default.cab...Im really not cut out for this business lol. So any help would be great yet again, thanks.

It doesn't really have to be installed to the C: drive, all my other games like Crysis isn't, and it works fine.

well all together its 9 gigs. I know, i'll be needing a new drive shortly, but i highly doubt thats the reason for the game not working..

eKalsi187, don't bother moving your game to C:. Instead, just uninstall/reinstall it in place (I have mine on D: and it works.... kind of). Once the game is installed, run the GearsTU and restart. See how that goes.
