So got some comments but nothing game play related yet... so with a near final build which I plan to release, unless something is seriously broken, I give you my GoW map Asylum.

I played the map with a few friends but looking for some more input from the community. So I hope you enjoy it and if you guys think that it is good to be marked as official release then let me know, because I think it's done.

I've tried to open it in both single player and multiplayer but for some reason the game crashes after loading your level. Perhaps I did something wrong?

All custom maps I try to open crash my game. >.>
Odd... I know people had game crash issues with Spire. Not sure what it is because I was able to host and play it online. You guys did copy it to the my docs path right? And have the latest live patches?
I could fire up a game for bit if you like and see if you can join, gamer tag is m0zi.
Guys, if you have trouble opening it, just open it in the editor.

It opens in the editor but crashes my editor when I want to play it in the window. >.>
What? This sucks... sorry guys. I hope this can be narrowed down to why custom maps die on other machines...
All usermaps are listed in my map selection box in the host dialog but for some reason your one still crashes the game. Spire fully works for me though, and I don't think those updates have anything to do with it after all..

Your map opens fine now. I can only open it by typing "open mp_asylum" in console tho. I dont see the map listed in game. The other custom map thespire still crashes tho. I dont get how some people can play the maps and others dont.
That's good to hear that you got it running. As for on the map list it's not there for me either. However, (I hope I explain this correctly) when you are at the main MP screen where you pick the game mode and round numbers, the map tab probably says Custom Config. Next to it are arrows....hit those left or right and you will see the name MP_Asylum to play and host if hopefully it does not crash your game.
Still looking into that one...
It runs fine for me if I open it in the editor. Remember you need to save it in my docs/my games/gow/cookedpc/ etc lol
Nice... those that can play it any feedback will be great!
-bump... So I made a cooked version of the map, link is the same that I posted at the top of this thread. Hope that makes a difference for those that still can't load it...

I just played it and i must say it is extremely well presented! Everything looks really good. The only thing that i have a problem with since its a 4 vs 4 game is the scale of it. Its just way too big for 4 vs 4.
other than that i have to say its incredible. I have a couple questions though...
1.)How did you put those buildings together. Im talking about the ones that are on the side of the map that look kinda like the mansion.
2.)How long did it take to make that? Ive been working on a map that is 1/5th that size and im still not done with it.
3.)How long have you been mapping for?

Thanks for the comment, yeah the size is big... perhaps my next one will be a little more compressed.
As for your questions,
1) Most of the structures are simple BSP cubes covered with meshes to give the illusions of buildings. Some of the other structures outside the level for example outside and behind the spawn points are all meshes that I dug up from the ones in game and scaled them up. Other buildings like the ones behind the sniper with the big pillars is all static mesh combinations.
The best way to figure this out is to load any of the maps in the editor and dissect them to see how the pieces fit. The 'w' hot key to hide/show meshes helps alot to figure out how things are made...
2) It took me a week to make, just put in a lot of hours, staying up late, not that I needed to, but was on a creative spree.. :)
3) I have been mapping for a while...

I Was wondering.
Say you hosted a map then someone joined it - could they download it directly off of you or do they have to go download the map separately?

To answer your question, they downloaded it separately then joined. The issue was that on the map server my map name shows up as CUSTOM not Asylum. But he was able to join by finding my name on the server browser.

Yeah it is a little too big... hopefully my next one I will try release next month will be smaller. But not too small...
