Name: DM-DG-Hypoxia
Version: final version
Requirements: UT3 PC and PS3 Versions
Players: 2 to 8 (20 playerstarts)
Download: DGUnreal Web site (http://www.lilchips.com/dgunreal/ut3-hypoxia.asp)
Mirrors: Multiple mirror links on the site page. Official hi-speed mirror here (http://uthost.rwven.com/dgunreal/).

A small arena style map great for flak and rocket fragging. Includes most standard weapons. Similar style to Gael etc. but with a varied layout and dark metal industrial look. Excellent with 3 to 5 players and the slow kill mutator.

Instant keeper!

I vaguely recall some beta screenies with more color. Did you increase Scene_Desaturation?

I am still waiting to see something with terrain and an outdoor theme ... like an outdoor jungle theme or even an Antalus like map and I know that DG can make a level like that like noone else can because of his excellent talent at terrain mapping. So how about an Antalus-2 or a DesertIsle 2 ... those were two of my favorite DM maps in UT04 and I would love to see something like that for UT3.

And no Krodan does not cut it imo (it is a nice map though in its own rights) ... it is not large enough nor does it flow well enough to compare to either of those two (and the placement of the U-Damage is just not good at all ... a dead end? WTF is that all about? what happened to flow?), although granted it looks good. So please DG come through and make an awesome DM map on par with either of the two I mentioned (also DM-CPB2-Archipelago was good but the sliding panel doors really hampered gameplay to an extent and with Antalus and DesertIsle you don't have this issue). Another really nice open map is DM-Remnant from UC2 ... I always liked that map and felt it would be a good addition to any UT game on the PC.

Anyway just some things to think about since all of us who are familiar with your UT04 work know how excellent your terrain mapping skills are in addition to being good with the standard industrial level as shown here.

The final release was worth waiting for, great map dude.

Tell me, how'd you get the colours so bright? The colours in the Epic maps are so muted compared to yours...

It's perfect . . .

The only thing that I do not like me was that you could save from the fall walking in some pipes . . .

Do you even know what map I am talking about? If you do and you say that it is perfect then you don't know much about flow in a level. But to each his own I suppose.

"The entrance of the house serves as a trap to the player who dares to come in and grab the powerup. It is a dead end, therefore the player would weaken itself from closing themself in, yet they are also rewarded for their courage with the powerup".

Okay I just wanted to make sure we were at least talking about the same thing .. anyway I don't want to talk about that on this thread ... that would be rude. If you want to debate it we can take it offline or just simply agree to disagree (which I am more inclined to do tbh). ;)

I vaguely recall some beta screenies with more color. Did you increase Scene_Desaturation?

I increased fog and post processing, which unfortunately has the side effect of decreasing contrast and saturation.

I am still waiting to see something with terrain and an outdoor theme ...

I have seven maps designed which I plan to build over the next few months, I'm currently working on an amazing looking outdoor WAR map, I also have a small terrain-based DM map in design waiting to be built, I can push that one to the front of the line if you prefer. :)
With the power of Unreal Engine 3 I have developed a special method of increasing my terrain detail more than 10x what UT2004 could do, and currently no one else using UE3 is doing this (Epic or any UE3 Licensees that I am aware of). So expect some real cool looking terrain.

I cant wait for more map from you too
Big out door map please ? :D

I have two large outdoor terrain-based WAR maps coming soon.
As I get the maps closer to beta over the upcoming months I will post screenshots on my web site.

how'd you get the colours so bright? The colours in the Epic maps are so muted compared to yours...

I made sure that the color saturation was higher than normal on the colored lights in the map, since the fog and post processing reduces this.

The only thing that I do not like me was that you could save from the fall walking in some pipes . . .

And that you dead very fast falling . . .

You won't be standing on those pipes for very long in a real match against other players. ;)
The location of the pipes is so that they match the rest of the piping system in the floor. If their collision was removed they wouldn't cast proper shadows.

The kill volume in the hole is almost 1.5 meters (about four feet) below the floor. I went with a faster kill for two reasons: so that you can get back into the game faster and so that your character goes into rag-doll faster.
Unfortunately it is too late to change that now, you should have said something during the open beta test of the map. :p

This map is #1 in my map rotation atm,

Thanks... for playing the map and for the name.

thanks for such a great map!

Hypoxia wasn't originally designed to be a replacement or remake for Gael, just an octagonal rocket arena style design, so it is difficult to not have it be similar to Gael. :)

DM-DG-Enclosure was the beta version.
DM-DG-Hypoxia is the actual final version.

I renamed the beta DM-DG-Enclosure to DM-DG-Hypoxia because another mapper over on the BUF forums released a map with that same name.

So you can delete DM-DG-Enclosure and play DM-DG-Hypoxia.

FYI: Hypoxia is at #2 download on FileFront (http://unrealtournament2004.filefront.com/) behind the UT3 Demo. :)

Thanks. I have eight maps in design for UT3 that are considerably better than any of my UT2004 work. They will have my style of mapping though.

Thanks guys.
I plan on cooking all of my maps for PS3 as well as PC, at least those maps that are small enough to play on consoles as I do have a couple of large WAR maps under development that probably won't play well on low end systems (console or PC).
I have a few totally custom DM's and CTF's coming over the next months that should work well on all platforms.

Although it's not quite what I first expected (100% gael), I found it very refreshing and fun. A really enjoy this map. Thanks!

I wouldn't say 100% Gael... Launch UT2004 again... :p
Yes, both maps are octagon rocket arenas and Hypoxia is similar to Gael (80%?), however Hypoxia's main lifts are located in a different place, Hypoxia has four lifts total (Gael only has two), it also has Shock sniper platforms, window ledges, and the playerstart weapon ammo and pickup layout is different. It is difficult to get a large variation in design on a simple octagonal arena map. :)
It should play relatively similar to Gael though, which is partially why I made the map, since UT3 doesn't have any stock rocket arena map.

I promise my upcoming maps will be less "UT2004 map"-like... ;)

This IS a good map. I wasn't expecting much from a basic arena map, but it is set up perfectly. I played an online TDM 4 on 4 and it was one of the most blazingly intense games I've played so far. I felt like my eyes were gonna fall out of my head. Very nice.
