This would be it.The FINAL release of The Longest Yard by Crimson Death


I had to fix some minor issues with the jump pads at the back of the mapand the pickups you get from them. I also fixed the issue with the load screen, noe there is a pic from the map instead of the default load. Thank you all once again for downloading this map and for the input during its development.

I like this one best of the two, scaling is a bit off but overall gives me more the feeling of the original map.

could you PLEASE PLEASE make a CTF version of this!! Keep this version up because I like it as well, but I loved playing CTF on the original with one flag on the far platform and one on the top...maybe you could do this on your version that is supposed to directly follow the original. It would be cool to even have just the weapons that quake 3 had. I already requested a CTF version from the other map creator, but he hates CTF :(

Nice, loved this one in Q3A, it's a final so I'm maybe a bit late on the feed back but anyway:

- It's a bit to much sniping going on, the shock should be moved to sniper spot and sniper removed totally, the other weapons turn useless on a open map like this with all that hit scan.
- The jump pads have no air control and it takes large bit of the fun away, using the jump pads creatively is an incredibly important feature in this map.
- Going through the portals by the rox makes me face the wrong way coming out on the bridge.

Removing the sniper-rifle is a no-go! Q3A had the rail-gun which is as good as a sniper rifle. The map is almost perfect, except the music. Dear creator, tell us how to remove it...

1st thanks for making this map, I love it. Played Longeryard since original Unreal 1, and this version is much closer to what I'm used to then the smaller release another person made.

However the hidden items (redeemer and raptors) kind of take away from the DM feel. The redeemer I could live with, but the raptors really (imo) ruin the dm game as they dont have a place there. Any chance of a rev being released with either the hidden rooms removed completly? or at least removing the raptors?

crazy to get killed by raptor while ur down on the main map area in a dm game. Maybe its just me...

Jump up to either of the 2 upper platforms, crawl around on the edge to get into hidden areas.

used to play dm17 all the time in q3 and this is a nice version, looking forward to seeing some air control on the bounce pads

something that would be nice to see again is with the bottom block of 5 bounce pads u could walk up the edges of them in q3 if u got it right on the very edge, this gave u a trick move to get onto the center bouncepad from the floor without bouncing or rocketjumping, just one of those little gameplay qwerks that was interesting

But i have one problem im on a PS3 and i cant get the maps everyone is creating to work. somebody told me that i could get modded maps to work all i had to do is make sure they were "cooked for the ps3" is there any ways i could convince you to convert it so it will play on my ps3? This is my favorite map From Q3 and i want to play it with all my other friends who were quake 3 junkies like i was. If you would it would be much appreciated my me and all my friends.

I am getting ready to put the fixed Final out there as well as a couple of betas for CTF and VCTF for the same map. Let me know if they give you issues.

I am looking forward to the fixed version of this map ... the map has great visual appeal and the layout is different enough from the other version on this forum that I would like to have them both. I'll keep my eyes open for it. BTW I really like the custom music track as it really adds atmosphere to the map and makes it even more fun to play. I wonder why no other maps from people have a custom track ... that is one thing that all my favorite user created levels lack. Anyway I'm glad you figured out how to do it because it greatly adds to a level. Thanks.

Ok.....The Jump Pads have air control (at least the ones that made sense) I played around with all kinds of settings and came up with these. I believe that these will satisfy. If not I will be glad to adjust them. I have also fixed the music. I removed the song with lyrics and replaced it with a UT sound pack. This allows for the music to be turned off or lowered.Some textures have been realigned to match better. There were also a few small visual tweaks made (thanks Sbouby) I left the Raptors in play as well as the Redeemer because the map is a custom remake of the original, updated to the new engine. Thought it would be nice to be able to dog fight in space from time to time. Enjoy

Are you also aware that the warp hole thingy has a bug with it ... part of it is animated and another part is completely static. I also somehow got launched into the level itself from one of the jump pads and had to go to the console and suicide myself. That was pretty odd. I am still playing this level because the atmosphere is sooo cool. The other remake is technically well done but it is in pure empty space and that doesn't make it as much fun too play as this one. In fact this one is so colorful (like DM-Pyramid actually) that going back to play the other remake was kind of a shock to my eyes at first. I hadn't noticed how empty the skybox is until I downloaded and played this level. I'm really looking forward to this remake being finished.

Okay I see you already released a new version. Hopefully you noticed the worm hole thingy but if not its not that big of an issue. Even DM-Pyramid has some weird white seam running the length of one part of the map ... sometimes perfection is just elusive but as long as you get close that is cool. Thanks checking this out now. :)

Well there are definitely still some issues with the jump pads ... they are not exactly right some jump you off at the incorrect angle and the top one on the "pyramid" doesn't seem to really jump you anywhere in particular and when you come down you take a lot of fall damage. Also the one that gets you to the Damage amp now requires that you jump at the height of the jump itself or else you no longer reach the platform ... you end up falling to your death. And I am still confused about the teleporters that seem to just teleport you to the middle of the bridge just a few feet away? Seems pretty useless ... and the bots are getting stuck all over the place ... I never seem to have a full arena and they really get stuck where the chest plate armor is ... they never come out from that spot after grabbing the armor so it really makes the level unplayable. Can you find a better place for that please. And now can you address the issue with the worm hole if you do decide to go back and really make this an awesome map to play as well as to look at. Its getting there so please don't stop now. Thanks.

Nah ... that is one of the things that makes this map look sooo cool. If you really have to leave it alone ... it isn't all that bad. I would hate to see it go as it really does add alot to the map and makes the battle in space even crazier.

I will leave it....The jump pads are set for more air control, so if you are pressing any of the directional keys you will go that direction (sometimes it is not a good thing either.) this was one of the requests I had earlier. I will tighten them up and I may have figured out how to cut back on the worm hole effect. I will keep tweaking....I will wait a day or so to see what else may come up. Thanks for trying it out!

I try it, now you got it very nice :=)
It's more funny with control air on bumper.

Some suggest (again lol).

1/ We respawn sometimes on place for avril, isn't very nice to fight with them really.
On map it's nice to put them (because there are 2 raptors ;) ). But i think, it's better if you find another way to put them (same place of armor is better i think).

2/Perhaps more windows on wall behind you put avril ;=) To see beautiful earth :=)

But awesome now :=)

I'd have to agree about the AVRiLs ... I meant to mention that earlier but I forget ... I would just leave that area empty or move the chest plate where the bots are getting stuck anyway in it's place ... redeemers and AVRiLs don't have a place on a map like this imo. But if you see a place for it np ... afterall it is your map. Also I was thinking that you could drop like a couple of vials on those far away platforms you teleport to.

- replace avril by bio.
- replace small armor by avril
- put a small armor on your two footbridge (place to go on hidden place), and one on sniper place.

Me i don't really like jumpboost on this map, than
- replace jumpboost by high armor. if you do that
- replace high armor by redeemer (i don't know if you take off, the central redeemer on this 1.2 ;). and put a redeemer with with 2 ammo on hidden place ^^

Really, the avril doesn't good here :(.

2. Maybe u could remove the invulnerability pickup,putting something else instead ;)

Wow, this remake is beeeeautiful! The eye candy is stunning. One of the invisible walls I noticed was in the exact spot where the grim reaper statue is in your screen shots. I barely noticed the wormhole blemish. Maybe replace the sniper rifle with the insta-gib shock rifle (rail-gun). Outstanding map!:D

about the red face... one of the arena masters from the Q3 era perhaps?;)

Please don't make this an Instagib map by default. It is bad enough getting shot by bots with the sniper with their crazy accuracy ... I don't want to get zapped to death in one shot all the time. If someone wants instagib they can use the mutator or maybe you can make an instagib version of the map for people who like it. But otherwise just leave the sniper rifles please.

I hear that.... I am a junkie tooo! I am working on the map as we speak. I deleted the top 2 decks because the brushes had some issues. I just got them re built. I am working on the other issues now.

I put this on my server and played it with some clan buddies for awhile. It's pretty solid, but as others have said, the Avril is out of place. also, in the original, if I remember correctly, there were health packs on the bottom. I think it would be nice to have a health pack or two on the bottom near the 'corners' of the bottom floor.

All-in-all it's a solid map. I'll probably end up keeping the final version on my server.

Well in this version I:
Removed the Raptor and Redeemer Platforms
Removed the Avrils
Changed the Floor textures

Fixed music
fixed air control on pads that did not need it.
fixed the invisible wall issues on the upper platforms

The level is really fun and plays great and now I just have several oberservations/questions:

- What is the point of the portals that put you in the middle of the walkway ... I don't get why you need them

- You have two shield belts in places that are inaccessible and I don't understand that .. they are in worse spots then when you had the chest plate. The bots never go for them and neither will I ... they seem wasted. I think armor would be good on the platforms you teleport away to ... that and/or health vials.

- Bots NEVER go for the UDmage and never go for the superhealth so you may want to check your bot pathing and tweak it just a bit.

That's all from me ... other than that the level rocks and looks excellent ... I really enjoy it. Thanks.

OOPS thought I took those pickups out (shield belts)
The teleporters that drop you back to the center ....The idea came from the original Q3 map. Theirs were exactly the same.
I will check the pathing, thought that worked as well....

Cool man, thanks for the explanation ... earlier I actually meant those platforms that you jumppad away to that have Portals that get you back to the main platform ... that is what I was talking about when I said that an armor helmet would be cool on one of them and a chestplate would be great on another one of them. Or health vials. Hope that makes sense now. :)

I got it....I think I might do that since the deemer platform and the Raptor platform are gone now! Thanks! BTW did you like the floor texture better?

yeah I did as a matter of fact ... I think it goes with the overall design and theme of the map ... you really did a great job with this level ... I really am glad I can help you and of course any other level designers anyway that I can.

There should be a statue there a tag of sort(the Crimson Death character) It appears in my version....not an invisible wall.

This map is going to be so kick ass when you finally get all the remaining bugs (that I missed LOL ) ironed out. Thank goodness for Sbouby or some important things would have gotten missed. Anyway that is why it is always good to have many people test a beta map and help test throughout until the final. I will be looking forward to the final tonight ... yay its Friday so some good content should be getting released tonight or tomorrow. I love the weekends! :)

I am uploadiing 1.4 right now. I fixed the bot pathing and changed the 2 extentions on the back of the main platform. Won't be too much longer....

also if i do get up there,with little health i`m stuck as i know i`ll die on my way down.

Yep that is what I was going to tell you ... please go back to the portals as the jumppads up on those platforms just don't work tbh. Also please modify the damage for the jumppad up to the superhealth ... when you come down you take 25 points of damage so really I find myself asking is it worth it? The bots now go everywhere except the superhealth so really you are two or three things away from this being a perfect map (and therefore your CTF map being perfect as well) so please try and hit them today if possible. I really want to play this map a few times as I really enjoy it but those new jumppads are just ... yuck, sorry. :)

2/A last suggest (hard to explain) : I prefer a more big jump here, and if you cut : a player can choose to jump on bumper or fall here (pics2). Perhaps is better for the gameplay.

I am re pathing the whole map..... The bots decided they would commit suicide when I added the teleporters back in on the platforms. I will keep you posted!

Jump boots would give you that feature, but it seems that you also get it when ejecting from a self-destructing Scorpion/Viper as well. Maybe someone can help embed the code for this map?

Anyway, just mentioning some alternatives to switching back to teleporters. Personally, I prefer jump pads because I love picking off players in mid-air! :)

I dunno ... visually the map looks better using the portals and we know they work much better ... although if the platforms were slightly enlarged so you wouldn't land on them and automatically get sent right back down and that damage gotten rid of (like it is with the sniper platform .. now all those jumppads were done to perfection) maybe ... but it seems like after all this trouble with the level the best thing is the portals.

I agree with AnubanUT2 regarding the damage. It's no fun that you take damage from using the jump pads. Please fix this.

On a positive note, this map is awesome! Much better than the other 'Longest Yard' map I had (it was way to small, more of a 1-on-1 map).

You enlarged most of the map spaces nicely.

I like the feel of the Quake atmosphere with the UT gameplay.

I had a very good Christmas, Thankyou very much! I am almost done with the fixes. I removed all paths(nodes, weapons, health and so on) and started from the beginning. I should be done soon.

That is good news ... still really looking forward to this map so hopefully we'll get it late afternoon/early evening? You starting over was probably for the best since now you have knowledge under your built on how to do it and now can choose more effecient ways and can catch errors more easily.

Why didn't you simply lower the platforms which were causing fall damage in v1.4? If I'm not mistaken fall damage is only dependent on the y distance (height), not the x distance.

I could of course do this myself, but I don't like placing a modified map on my server without the author's consent.
Please let me know your thoughts (post or PM).

That doesn't make sense ... no one is fleeing when they use these portals ... they are coming back to the main platform. I do not get the issue here ... I could see if the portals were what got you to the Armor platforms but you jump there to get the armor anyway so people should be trying to pick you off to prevent you from going to get the armor. Then you teleport back right into the middle of the action. How does having jumppads to come back vs portals to come back (not leave) really make things different?

Which is what you are doing when you go to the platforms ... so what is the issue? By the time you are on the platforms you already have the coveted item and since it is armor in this case would do you really gain by someone using a jumppad to quickly shoot them back? And really the speed at which he is shooting you back combined with the shorter distance than to the sniper rifle makes it close to impossible to shoot someone coming back. But if it actually works for you fine. I wasn't telling CD not to make it for you folks I was saying I don't see what good it does in this particular instance ... imo of course.

Are people finding the hidden goodies ... the bots sure are ... this is what makes this map so much fun. For me the fun factor in this version is the highest ... Yard is a better classic remake ... hard to choose which one is the better of the two and so I won't ... that's why I have both. :D

Just a little update...Fall just successfully converted his Action cam mutator mod to the PS3. So apparently the tool set DOES work...at least somewhat. Can't wait until this map gets converted so I can play it :)

Well....It cooked, but not without errors. It gave 1 error and 2 warnings dealing with a texture and the custom sound pack. Let me know if it plays atleast. As with the other people cooking for the PS3 I have to play some more to get 100% error free.

Good map...but, argh, damn me for being a perfectionist...the arrows on the ground for the jump to the vials and 50 shield do not align correctly with the jump pads.

Irks me somewhat, and probably all other fussy folk now that I have dared to mention it ;)

Fall mentioned that the process of cooking for PS3 is relatively simple, but the problem he had was this:


I wasn't cooking the files correctly. The cooker app doesn't allow you to specify packages, so you have to do it via command line, and that command wasn't documented, so it took a few guesses to get.

I'm not sure if that helps or not...we may have to wait for the official documentation.

My main error is the custom music file (Click Click Boom) I have to switch to one of the game supplied music files and recook the map. I also have a minor texture issue tied to the Bio Rifle to fix as well. When I get home I will be fixing thise issues for the PS3 gamers.

k nice... ya the people haven't been able to support their custom music but the ones with the game default tracks are pretty good.. maybe epic will add custom music later.. hopefully

Sounds good I will keep checking. There is another version of Yard now available for PS3 but as tempting as it is to snag, I'm waiting for yours. Nothing against the other map it looks great but yours looks more like the style that I enjoy playing on.

I gotta admit...I got impatient and downloaded the other version of the Longest Yard custome map...which is a bad ass map...I am still waiting patiently for your copy of this classic remake. You can never have too much of a classic or too many versions of it.

Yeah I haven't gotten the other one yet...this is the one I REALLY want. But I may get it just to hold me over...

Edit: Nope I'm too stubborn. I'm forcing myself to wait for this version. Its the last user made map that I'm dying to have for PS3...all the others have come out. I'll just be patient :D

Well sure it's different, but they're really the same map with different weapons and textures. Any reason to get one over the other, the PS3 doesn't have a lot of space, I've already used up 3 GB or more with content.

I think its basically personal taste. The other Yard looks really good, but I just like the design and color scheme of this one better.

I shouldn't be so quick to judge...or condemn. I'm starting to get used to the music. lol I do love the map and I can't stop playing it. Longest Yard is my favorite UT2K4 map. Thanks a million for doing a UT3 version!

PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE FINAL VERSION OF THIS MAP> I fixed the load screen and the jump issues on the top level (The health vials were out of alignment and 2 always got missed)

but i have to agree with some people here, this map has definitely too many stars / rocks and planets in the sky! totlay annoying during the gameplay against 6-8 bots!!

i much prefer the other yard version "Yeard-SE" :)

Where is the link for the corrected one? I really don't think it has been uploaded to UT3mod.com. Maybe Herby hasn't had a chance to update the database. I have noticed that a couple of maps are missing that have been given persmission to be cooked. Also not all the mutators are up to date on that site.

Oh I thought you had forgotten all about this ... really it is up to you like I said in the pm. The name of the map shows up now but it is so long it goes outside the maplist box ... it looks a little sloppy but ahh the level is what counts and you can worry about having a perfect friendly name the next time. No one else seems to mind so please don't bother for just me (again unless you want it too look perfect). But don't think I do not appreciate the offer. And never apologize man ... work gets busy and life gets crazy ... that is just how things are, believe me I know all about the crazy part. :)
