install the map into the \UTGame\published\CookedPC\CustomMaps\ folder if this is your first
ut3 custom map you install you will have to create it yourself.
this is my very first ut3 map.
it mainly served me as a learning exercise for what has changes between unreal engine 2.x and 3.
there are a couple of known issues.
there are no custom meshes or textures in the level. all graphics assets in this map are made by epic and streamline.
some of these meshes don't have perfectly none overlapping normalized lightmap-uvsets which leads to some
ugly lighting artifacts most noticeable on the floor meshes on top of the castle.
also the bots don't seam to use the aircontrol of the jump pads properly and often fall to their death.
i am not a pro gamer myself so i am always very puzzled about what makes a good item placement layout
for a "pro" ut-deathmatch map.
yet i hope you will have fun with this map.

@t@f: in the generic browser just load all package from the environments folder with the same prefix and tell it to only display materials ... theres only 2 different bsp textures in this map though.

Great use of making a map that looks like it's mainly meshes. My only suggestion is to rid the excess flak and thighpad spots and add a shield belt somewhere in there. Makes a good fun map however.

there is a shield belt but it is very well hidden and requires some trick jumping to get to :)

Wow this map is amazing.
Though I think it can be made quite a lot better as it seems plagued by a few gameplay quirks in my opinion :
- why not have the jump pads send directly to others places instead of directly upwards/towards the vacuum most of the time ? It is quite confusing at first to see I'm going nowhere because I didn't control my jump
-Make the elevators not go that fast. I know that speed is needed to be able to get to the redeemer, but here it's over the top I often end up going far too high.
-Maybe do something about the roofs being slippery - I agree it woudln't be good gameplay wise to be able to stand on them, but it's quite annoying when you don't know to jump out of a spawn point and slip towards your doom
-I don't really like the armor vest and shield belt being at the same spot, maybe move them around (at least one of them)
-Are there other items like Berserk/Invincible/Invisible ? I only saw the Quad Damage. If the items aren't there, it could be nice to include them.
Now I know this is a final release, the map already looks incredibly great, but I just find the gameplay could be made even better. At the moment, some things just seem to be strange...
Anyway, thanks a lot for the awesome map. Looking forward to more !

Looks, plays, and runs amazing. I was stunned because I never dropped once below the locked fps when I usually am never at the high end. How does it run so much better while looking so much better than the stock maps?

i am passing that question right on to epic i set the aircontroll to 0 at first in the hope that than the player and bots will follow the path spline to the pixel but than they would allays fall to their death than i tried biasing the TARGET path node to be further in the back which i can only do SO FAR before they float in mid air and become "INVALID" or "BAD SIZED" ... so i acknowledge that is sub par that you have to steer yourself to the destination and that the bots fall through most of the time but i simply cant fix it without completely changing the layout of my level :(

now that i am playing more i also manage to get much better at the elevator jumping and get catapulted way to high D: hat should have been tweaked better ... if only i was a better player ^^

no there arnt. i ran out of good places to put em ... i had em all in there at one point but everything was just so cluttered with mega power ^^

When I use jump pads, I like to look around and try to get some sweet kills while in-air. Manual air control should never be a requirement!
Artistically, the map is very impressive. Stunning lighting makes it look like it is original content or atleast original textures. I can't help but feel like there should be some alternative coloring somewhere though. Like a giant blue crystal, a blood fountain, just something. Don't get me wrong, I like the look of the map but I think a few tweaks to the colors would give it more of an "UT" feel. Hourence's map has predominantly yellow lighting, but there is a bright blue light in a central scene that really makes everything pop.
Looking forward to see your all custom work map :)

dude your screenshot is massive!! ^...cut down the resolution a bit. I also very much enjoy not having to control myself while in air. I will wait to play this on a custom server before i download as I already have a lot of maps and from what ive read the gameplay could use some work. We shall see

Gj. The map feels like a theme park somehow, like fragging in a Disney logo eh.. ^^ The jump pads are weird since they throw you where you are looking at jump but no air control. Lift jumps are never wrong though. :)

A few things:- love the jumping at the peak of those fast elevators - mile high.
- however bots suck at this map - they just kill themselves.
- and i seem to be falling through all the roofs of the little arches.

Mate - if you wanna mod and map-make, a very worthwhile purchase is the ut3 collectors edition - hours of video tutorials in Unreal Engine 3 work.
I have it and believe it to be invaluable!

I think I knocked this map in beta just on looks at the time. Now if I had known you where theeeeeeeee Warbeast. A guy dripping with skill who has made sum of the best custom texture for a UT level.
Its good to see the beast still lingers around these lonely shore.

Damn, man I LOVE your map.
Im playing it again and again. But I have to admit that the elevators really have some bugs, fx: The elevator near the UDamage would go out of its square and stuck in the floor, died a few times there or the bug DeBiese mentioned is a little bit freaky too (when youll play the map for an hour the elevator will go up from time to time until you arent able to reach it anymore) If you could fix them your map would be really GODLIKE.
Looking forward to some WAR maps for UT3 made by Warby ;)

I agree about the roofs though, it's annoying to think you can land on them, only to fall to your grisly death over and over.

the map looks crazy, i love the contrast of this big orange light !! but why did you use a point light and not a sunlight for this ? a lot of shadows doesn't match the sun
the gameplay is funny but i had problem with the lowest jumpads, often died by missing the arrival and falling ^^

Just tried the PS3 version, really great map. IMO the best looking map I've seen in UT3 so far (including Epic's), love the lighting, plays great too. Great work.
Fantastic map - runs like a dream on the PS3.
You can really fly using that lift :P

Wow ... I don't know how I missed this level before ... it is absolutely stunning. Great job man and congrats on being cooked by Epic themselves for inclusion in the second PS3 pack of mods. This is true, not to take away from the CE, but you can get all those videos for free (you have to make a free account, but it's free for 20+ hrs of video) at 3D buzz (http://www.3dbuzz.com) click here (http://www.3dbuzz.com/vbforum/sv_dl_list.php?c=13) after you've made an account and it will bring you right to the tutorials. The CE is definitely worth it but in case you already got the standard all you'll be missing is the 'behind the scenes' videos, but all the tuts that are on the CE are from 3DBuzz.
Good luck w/ the modding. Oh yea, as far as the PS3 jump pads on the lower level getting shot off the sides kinda stinks and makes me nervous about stepping on any jump pads. Great map but the Launch of Doom stinks. Hope the next map doesn't have the suicide pads.

I would say that is the only thing that is holding this level back from being nearly perfect. It is pretty frustrating to take a jump pad that launches you to your death instead of the platform it is supposed to ... for the PC version do you think you could make an update that addresses that issue? Man if you could I think we would all appreciate it as it would this map even more fun to play. It sure is a tricky map those lifts will surprise the heck out of you when you get caught up trying to hunt someone down. :)

Late comment about the map, because I wanted to get some time in on testing out the flow of it. Only negative comment I have is that the very far edges of the roofs have no collision so you fall right off into oblivion after jumping onto them. Other than that, the lighting and mood fits the game perfectly, and makes the character models and textures of the map look very dramatic and makes those normal map details *pop* right out. So I have been using this map to showcase some of the characters I have been making for the game lately, so I hope you don't mind.
Off topic, but I hope you come back to character design sometime. It would be fun to work with you again on some characters, especially your UT2004 gals. :)

i dont like 2 things in this map: you cant jump onto the roofs above small bridges (you kinda fall down and cant stay even for a second on them) and elevators are kinda strange looks unfinished. and maybee add some ammo in that area near the megahealth...

Umm......you realize that when this is loaded to a server is shows up as "Warbys very first test room" in the browser?
Once all the bugs are patched and UT3 is really taking off people are going to look through the server browser and think "What the heck", why would I want to play someone's first test room and they will move on to a map name they recognize. Too bad the name does not reflect the quality of it's potential.
For that reason alone, I pulled it off my server.

I never thought i'd say it about a Warbeast map, but dammit, one of the two lifts in the center area is a dealbreaker, it sinks /under/ the floor. Not only are unnaturally clipping objects a long time pet peeve of mine, but this one can catch me off guard in a firefight and is downright annoying. Shame about the 'test room' title on servers too. :(
It's unlikely the map will be updated, which is a real pity.

Wow are you serious Alopex ... you really think a dev with his pedigree would just leave the map in the state it is in ... hell it is almost unplayable because of several areas and no matter how good something looks if it plays poorly then how are people really supposed to enjoy themselves. This is a beta map basically ... I find it hard to believe he would let this be his first UT3 work and would risk leaving a negative impression. I love the looks but I won't play it because of the poorly implemented jump pads and the way the lift things work ... pity ... all those looks and yet really broken gameplay that is hell on the flow of a good game.
I think I will wait to hear from Warby himself ... if he says this is it then so be it. It could be that he is reading this silently and is going to surprise the hell out of everyone ... or he is readying another level that will be even better and won't have issues that should have been caught during beta testing. At least I can hope.

Yes I am, and why? As someone who knows alot of artists, they often do things like this to test the waters with a medium/program, then quickly move on to start work on the next bigger, better and much more serious project.
I don't think anyone who's seriously into UT would doubt Warby's pedigree at this point, veterans all know him and what he does, and noobs would more likely not be as fussed about the flaws and just see a very pretty new map ..and isn't that what warby maps are about? pushing the visual envelope first and gameplay second?

Great map, lightning is really amazing... But I thing you should correct a little problem, the elevators are a little bit strange.. after 10 minutes play that part of the map becames a huge mess. Maybe slow down them will help a lot!

You are the one who made Yorda for Ut 2k4? it was one of my favorites maps :D, anychance of updating to UT3? :D
anyway nice map, fun layout, but bots tend to feel a fatal attraction for elevators, the can stand still hours glaring the elevators waiting from them to magically come and give them the answers of teh misteries of life, and when they managed to get to one, becamo trapped, by the wisdom and enlightement that the elevator brings to them.
visually, the reflected sun and the grey line of the horizon aren't too appealing, but otherwise it's excellent

I really like this map overall but my two main complaints which have already been mentioned.
Elevator not on the floor.
Jump pads going straight up ... this causing bots to finish with like -4.

I love how it uses a few simple ideas to create such a strong atmosphere. Same with the Diablo map.
What is surprising to me is how steady my framerate was. Even in the Epic maps, I will get weird frame drops, from as far as 140 FPS to <20 FPS and I didn't experience on in either of these maps. Now I'm determined to find out why that is.

This was one of the first few custom maps I downloaded for UT3. It has wild and crazy lifts with lots of jumping and is a space map, which I usually don't like. This one is an exception and definitely worth it!

What is surprising to me is how steady my framerate was. Even in the Epic maps, I will get weird frame drops, from as far as 140 FPS to <20 FPS and I didn't experience on in either of these maps. Now I'm determined to find out why that is.
This map is very small, that's pretty much the answer to the high framerates :P
