Hi,

I'm having problems running a UT3 dedicated server on a win2k3 box as a service.

If I run a server manually it works perfectly, but when I try to run one as a service (via FireDaemon) I get a strange problem. The server starts up, and then seems to just..freeze. The log file stops at this line:

Log: Performing DNS lookup for stunserver.org
Log: Browse: DM-Arsenal?Name=Player?team=255?Game=UTGame.UTDeathma tch?GameMode=0?Numplay=0?MaxPlayers=11?NumPublicCo nnections=12?NumPrivateConnections=0?MinNetPlayers =0?TimeLimit=20?GoalScore=20?BotSkill=3?bIsDedicat ed=true?bUsesStats=true?ForceRespawn=0?bShouldAdve rtise=true?PureServer=1

and has a filesize of 8kb.

This only happens when I run the server as a service through firedaemon - as I say it works perfectly if I run it manually.

My problem is I can't run these servers manually as they are on my remote server down in London..they need to be run as a service otherwise they will simply shut down when I am not logged onto my box. Has anyone got any advice/suggestions/ideas? Really struggling with this one, causing much stress :(

I know jack about FireDaemon, but I run my servers "manually" as you put it. I RDP into the box, start the servers, then close my RDP session. Im still logged in, but I have effectively locked my PC and walked away from it. Works great. Ive run all of my servers this way since UT99 (and Ive run literally hundreds of servers) and have no problem.

Thanks for the reply :)

Yeah that does work - but its terribly insecure, servers should *not* be running with admin priviledges and definitely not with remote desktop access. Also means I have no way to control them remotely.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway

Who says that they are running with admin priviledges? RDP is not an admin-only function. You can login as a user without admin privs.

very true, I missed that :)

The point is irrelavent anyway as my licence doesn't let me have more than two sessions, and its not a suitable solution to the problem :(

Hopefully someone with FireDaemon experience will chime in here.
