View Full Version : UT3.5? The Tournament

This thread is designed with the idea of being a contructive aid for the guys at epic for when they eventually, and they damn well should, put out an official add on to UT3.
So, to anyone out there, please put in your two cents on what you'd like to see in an add on to the game in all its official glory-ness brought to you by the geniuses at Epic.
Some of my ideas:
-More characters we recognize from earlier UT's:
---I was disappointed in the fact that while customizable, which was cool, there was a serious lacking in characters in this UT. I would like to see more crazy ass robots, from a different model, like the two kinds of robots in the UT2K's. Also, I liked Gen MoKai characters, I don't know where they might fit in if you keep with the story style setup of this latest installment, but "they were cool". Other human teams would also be kickass, like a new line of Hellions and FOR GOD'S SAKE a playable Malcolm, Xan, and Brock.
-More game modes:
---I realize you guys will probably leave this one to the community, but assault, bombing run and simple double domination while not having nearly as many online players was enjoyed at least by me in single player mode. It might be cool to see an official TAM, but I know the guys at 3SPN are gonna rock out with the cocks out on a new one for UT3, 'nuff said.
-The Tournament!:
---In the official add-on, I think it's a must to bring back the actual tournament(whatever this means). But there was something to the other UT's having this game be accepted as a sporting event in the future that just made the feeling KICK ASS. Maybe now that the "war" is over? This can be done? On a side note, the idea of respawners and never actually seeing them or being able to destroy such a machine left the "story-line" UT3 with a very big plot-hole. The war it seems could potentially last forever. What were they powered by?
That's it for me, it will be interesting to see your comments and suggestions. I know this is like so many other threads of the "what-would-you-like?" type, but please try and focus on this as a constructive piece and not an argument. I would like to see our words here help create a better UT.
Thx community and you EPic

Player models more like UT99. Seriously why are the players so bulky? You have like 5 layers for 1 texture in the skin also and thats gonna cause problems for skinners. I don't see this game having many skins/models just beacuse of the difficulty.
Also bring back the old folder setup! We want our System, Textures, Music, Sounds, Maps, ect back!
This game could have been much better if it wasn't being focused for consoles...

Assault wud be cool yeah.. then we cud have sum crazy ass assault trials maps! I wish u cud just turn UT2004 maps into UT3 maps in no time with some cool program. There were the most amazing maps in UT2k4.. and i dont think most of them wud be remade for UT3.

i would just like to see epic going back to making unreal the single player version & unreal tournament going back to its mp roots. id rather have all the customization & features that are standard for a mp game, than a single player game which will prolly be completed over a weekend.

My guess is that Epic axed Assault because they were too lazy to make those maps. If you look at what the engine allows, then people would expect to see huge maps with lots of cool objectives or checkpoints. They basically put in the new Warfare, but it's just Onslaught but bigger and with more stuff.
Now, I bought this game but I expected more. Assault is one of the things lacking in UT3, but also the characters as you mentioned. More maps would be awesome (these could go in a bonus pack that should be released for FREE).
I think that if Epic was making UT3 like the Classic UT, then at least bring back all of the classic teams (i.e. Blood Reavers, Metal Guard, Raw Steel, Thunder Crash, not to mention, SKAARJ). I like having more teams especially more alien and human races, and this would make customization even better.
If they end up pulling a 2004 over the 2003 with UT3, then I seriously hope they treat it as an expansion pack that goes on the shelf for MUCH LESS and not a stand-alone like the 2004, because quite frankly, I PAID for this game, and I don't want to see my money wasted (more than it already was) when another release is made that includes everything in the first, but with more stuff (like 2004 over 2003).
Also, they should fix all the new but worse stuff they implemented into the game. They should also improve their servers and especially the menu interface. Bring back all the good characteristics from the previous installments without sacrificing anything.

lol @ you talking about adding characters when you cant even switch a map without having an admin and knowing admin commands or when demo playbacks arent even working and the game is so full of bugs and unpolished.
Those things should come as bonuses and right now i think that there are atleast 1000 more issues that requiers Epic attention before adding skins or mod, the game isn't even finished yet and we are after 4 beta patches, come'on, there are so much missing features.

to keep this game going without it dying i can garentee that if you release cross platform options in multiplayer people will stay for that. So if you can you need it quick because what i have seen so far is that the pc community is dead... its sad but true. And what better way to bring back owning some ps3 noobs. Sure the cross platforum server will need to run at 80% speed and be enabled for cross play. but it would be way worth it.

Hmm? What is this assault mode?
I like to see:
More UT99 and 2004 models
UT99 maps lavagiant, eternalcaves
UT2004 maps grendel, rankin, offical remake of campgrounds
and a lot more.
But better that they release a new ut3 with more content, new marketing etc. like ut2k3/ut2k4.
I still havnt bought ut3 =] waiting for the patch and see how the comm. will grow. Not
really worth paying 60 euros with not many online players...

I'd like never to see another 'remake' map, if I want to play them, I'll play them in the game they were made for, where they are at home, I would much prefer good new maps, however, I would take a good remake over a poor new original map :|

Assault...everyone cried 'cause it wasn't in 2003. It came in 2004 and aside from a small minority of players it was met with a resounding 'meh'.
Assault was neat...in 1999. But even back then it was such a crap shoot online. There were too many map glitches making for 35 second matches.
Just seems that the size of the assault community wouldn't justify the *official* effort on Epic's part.

Now Epic is going to repeat the same mistake. They didn't include Assault in UT3, and they just might bring it back with another installment...just like what they did before... they are all in on this for the money, I know it. They could have done so much more, so let's not all think they need a break. The game isn't polished/finished, so no break deserved. Heck they are still making a profit from people buying their game even for the quality its in right now.

That's naive.
Who funded the game? Midway
Who reaps most of the profits? Midway
Who calls for when the game is released to reap said profits? Midway.
See a trend? Epic would have kept going as long as they could to make the game perfect, except Midway told them to get it out ASAP.
If they refused - Midway would have pulled funding, meaning Epic's state would be a sorry mess right now.

if they fixed all the problems and glitches with ut3 I would be satisfied. That means:
- proper demo-support
- copy/paste in console
- more options in the menu that allow more customization of your game
- ATI/AMD crashing problem. It appears that there is a major problem that makes the game almost unplayable for everyone who has ATI/AMD Hardware.
- fix the server-browser/master-server and the open-command glitch.
- most importantly: Linux Servers FFS! with a proper webadmin.
- a Mac version of the game
and last but not least:
- some advertisement about the game!! If noone plays it it won't be fun to anyone. Halo has ads in TV and cinema. All UT3 had was an ad in xFire oO?
well if these basic things are fixed I'd be happy. Hopefully this is all about to happen with the upcoming patch, so we won't need a whole new add-on for these changes to be happen.
remember people, they can add new gametypes through regular patches too... they actually did this in UT2003 before UT2004 was even mentioned.
The Epic Games Bonus Pack adds three new gametypes (Mutant, Invasion, and Last Man Standing), 10 new maps (6 DM, 1 BR, 1 DOM, 2 CTF), two new adrenaline combos, new announcer voices, and a music player. They could still be setting up to do things like that once they get the actual core game working at a high standard. Things like this take time and testing. People hate the fact that it seems like we've had another beta but actually it is a finished game. So why doesn't it work perfectly with everyone's system? Well, you don't know if its going to work on everyone's system until everyone actually tries it. I've programmed a lot of things and learned very quickly that things take time to do right. As a programmer, you would want to take that time to make something perfect but management and schedules really conflict with that. And really that goes for any job, if you don't think so then you've never worked a day in your life. What I see so far is that there are already 4 beta patches. Thats basically averaging a patch a week since the release of the game. Thats an amazing pace for a FPS which shows they are working their tails off to get this game into shape. Take a bit of a lesson in a good programming language and you'll see that code doesn't just fall out of the sky and just because you wanted to program something a certain way doesn't mean its going to work that way. Be patient and let them do what they're going to do.

UT3 is a great game, it's very Unreal, and very UT.
It feels like playing UT, the speed is there, the whacked out weapons and intense speed is there. And most importantly, the dodging is there.
The problem with UT3 is the same problem I felt was present with UT2003, the lack of feeling that the game was polished and round up neatly.
Assault was missing, the beloved enforcer had been replaced with an assault rifle that couldn't hit an airplane at a few yards distance, the good old domination had been replaced with Double Domination, which felt weird to many, and worst of all, Bombing run was thrown it to spice up the blend.
Upon seeing the community's reaction to this, we were given UT2004 on quite short notice.
This game felt a whole lot more polished, assault was there, dual wielding was back too, Bombing run was still there, but we got Onslaught to add spice to the mix.
With UT3, double dodging is missing, the now very beloved Lightning Gun is missing, although the enforcer is back and kicking, also missing is the crowd beloved Assault and we still haven't seen the old old Domination yet.
To many, the most fatal lack in the new tournament was the lack of player models and overall number of levels for some of the gametypes.
With the enforcer there, a valid replacement for the snipe rifle, the bombing run players next to zero, and the Domination players all having gone to CTF of iCTF, the two most gravy lacks are Levels and Assault.
Creating a horde of old and new levels can be trusted to the community, but we are still in dire need of assault.
Warfare is a matter I am almost afraid to dig into.
In press releases and videos warfare looked (to me, at least) like a two-way assault gametype, long scenarios of pushing back and forth, huge player counts, building to assault into and gather resources from, varies environments and the lovely creative vehicle usage of assault.
I'm not man to go saying that Epic games ripped the fan crowd off, no no, but more like having forgotten to actually do as intended.
I most urgently hope that you good folks at epic games will take up the task of throwing out a bonus pack with assault in it, or at least dump us an empty gametype as a foundation for level designers amongst the community to rebuild the 04 levels on.
Is anyone with me?

B*llsh*t. I'm sick of all this negativity.
I can reassure you that that negativity is not misplaced. Yes, the game play is "ok". But there are way too many issues with this game for people to just say, "OMG! Teh best ever."
1) Pings on official servers are through the roof.
2) Major glitches and slowdowns when there should be very little if any.
3) Horrible UI.
4) Even more horrible network browser.
5) Affiliated with GameSpy.
6) Lack of any real content.
7) Friends system in game sucks
8) Major problems with dedicated servers (if you can even get one going)
9) Weapons not working like they should in some cases.
10) ect, ect, ect
I could go on and on about issues with this game. The point is, people paid for a game that was released way too early and are having major problems because of release schedules, poor coding and crappy Q&A. I don't know about anyone else, but I feel a bit p*ssed that I paid for a BETA copy of this game. 23 days after release there's been 4 patches already. That's
ridiculous.
This game should never have been released in the state that it's currently in. Period.

good points, I'm all for asking for help with the new engine and having the community do it themselves
To me, not that they haven't created an amazing starting point, but this game could offer so much more! What we want will get done, but not in the quality that it could by the desingers at Epic I think they're leaving this very brief game up to the community.

Bot behaviour sliders ala UT99 that allow you to modify;
- Field Tactics (Awareness of objectives, pickups, level hazards, camping spots)
- Accuracy
- Aggresiveness
- Jump Activity (Bunny hopping or not)
- Combat Tactics (Using Feign Death effectively, being aware of explosive items, effective weapon cycling and use, effective movement ei; running, crouching, strafing, turning)

First i would like to say that UNREAL rocks but Idd UT3 is graphically better than UT2k4 but it misses the feel.... I am enjoying this game though.
But the real UNREAL feel is gone.
It will turnout to be that this release will be an intermediate for a better and improved next version of this great game.
EPIC, please do not sell yourself to the hightest bidder and forget who has made you. Also make more (maybe weekly) announcements with news or updates.
My ideas :
-> Xan, Brock, Malcolm, Gorge, Some Skaarjs, Anubis, Selket and Apophis and Maybe Aida (unreal 2) and Gears of War characters
-> Assault Mod
-> The Ripper
-> A Real Solo Tournament

I made a thread about my "ideal" UT single player experience over at Beyond Unreal. Since this is pretty similar, I'm crossposting it over here:
Here's what I'm thinking for an ideal UT singleplayer experience:
Classic Unreal Tournament flyby. Classic Unreal Tournament voice over. We aren't trying to establish a timeline or a story here, we're attempting to establish a premise. The tournament is set in the distant future where giant megacorporations make hundreds of billions of dollars by forcing or recruiting people to fight for sport.
You set up a character. Cinematics are done in-game to utilize your model. Your character wakes up on a bed somewhere. You've got some kind of bar code on you, and there is a floating droid nearby that instructs you that you are going to fight in your very first deathmatch... Cut to a one-on-one against some guy. You're in a dirty abandoned industrial site, and there are hundreds of people gathered off to the sidelines watching you fight and cheering and rooting you on. Lets say for this match, the only weapons given are chainsaws. You kill this guy, he's dead. Another one gets shoved in. And another. You fight until you end up dying.
You wake up back in the cell / medical room you were in before. You're told your performance has led Liandri officials to think you're qualified and you've been entered into the grand tournament. Difficulty setting here would be automatically adjusted based on how many guys you ended up killing in the first match, although later on you should be able to adjust it. You're assigned another match...
Again we have a dirty industrial facility, although this time you might get a chainsaw or an impact hammer, bricks, a metal pipe, or an Enforcer. At this level of the tournament with no one wearing any form of protection, an Enforcer would basically be a one-hit kill.
To keep things short, basically, you should work from the bottom. You should earn money for each match you participate in. Eventually you gain a bit more independence -- You're no longer simply fodder for the lowest rungs of the tournament, you've gained a following and are a bit of a celebrity. Your popularity should actually be a known value, by the way, and performing well (good K/D ratio, multi kills, sprees, and such) should earn you more cash and popularity with each match.
So with this celebrity, you also gain some autonomy. The corporation views you as an asset. You're allowed to leave your cell between matches, and you can request equipment and upgrades. Want a gun at the start of every match? Here's a clip-loaded Enforcer. Later on you could purchase an Enforcer mk. II with a bigger clip, or an Enforcer mk. III with no clip limitation. Want to learn how to fire your Enforcer gangsta style for more speed, or wield two at a time? Purchase the training from a veteran somewhere in the corporate facility. Remember how I said one hit with an Enforcer is a kill? Well, buy some protective gear -- Now it does less damage.
This introduces RPG-like elements to the game and flavors the game with more of a singleplayer "unlock more as you progress" aspect. Things like running out the charges on a "Respawner" might seem a bit silly in UT3, but the way I envision it, you should really have to purchase each charge (though eventually you'd get an infinite respawner). Now, the maps would still be the same multiplayer maps, but if you haven't purchased access to some of the items, then the items that appear in your singleplayer matches might be inferior -- Lets say you haven't purchased access to the Shock Rifle. Well, in your matches we might use a mutator to swap out that weapon with something else, or simply put in a crappy version of a Shock Rifle with a primary fire that fizzles out after a bit and can't detonate combos.
At some point, you could either begin to assemble a team by purchasing player contracts, or get recruited into a team. Once in a team, you get your own "base," which would essentially be an assault/warfare level. Other teams would all have their own maps. You can begin building your vehicle loadout, and vehicles would appear in your base (perhaps in a subterranean vehicle garage, for ones not actually featured in the level) as you purchased the technology. In order to keep your vehicles running, you need to purchase Tarydium with money earned from matches -- Or take control of territories that produce it. If you begin taking territories, you can set up alliances with other teams/corporations, trade agreements, or attack their territories (and they can attack yours, of course).
Eventually if you make enough money and become popular enough, Xan Kriegor extends an invitation for you to participate in the trials with his Corrupt. (If you decline, they may begin attacking you and attempting to take your territories, or challenging you in tournament matches -- If you decline the matches, your popularity may go down!)
So you enter alone into Xan's trials, fighting against odds in his attempt to eliminate you. Eventually you make it to the finals. On board Xan's personal ship, you fight until Xan's respawner runs out and your final combo destroys him. A faint blue light passes over you. You are escorted to the hall of champions, and given the trophy of grand champion, with your name inscribed on the wall. Cut back to Xan, we see a diagram of your character flicker in Xan's visor plate, processing strategies and tactics to use against you, and Liandri technicians rushing to upgrade him.
-- At this point, and any point thereafter, you could stop playing and "Retire" your character. You see a cinematic your character walking away from his weapons and equipment ... And Liandri executives in a darkly-lit executive room saying, "We'll let him go ... for now."
That or you could play another season with all the previous equipment and training and everything that you purchased from the previous season. Difficulty would be auto-adjusted one tier upwards. Teams get shuffled a bit, and after some period of time, Xan's Corrupt once again enter the Tournament. Continue the cycle as long as the player wishes to play.

I love the idea. I am a big fan of seeing a flyby in the opening of UT3, and being able to be introduced to a single player campaign like that.

You don't want much do you?
Why don't you just become a game developer yourself and create a game that perfectly matches your taste....

The tournament is set in the distant future where giant megacorporations make hundreds of billions of dollars by forcing or recruiting people to fight for sport. ... .. and other really cool stuff, seriously
so.. a UT-MMO? :)

to keep this game going without it dying i can garentee that if you release cross platform options in multiplayer people will stay for that. So if you can you need it quick because what i have seen so far is that the pc community is dead... its sad but true. And what better way to bring back owning some ps3 noobs. Sure the cross platforum server will need to run at 80% speed and be enabled for cross play. but it would be way worth it.
Very true, think PC guys need to start accepting this.

I haven't read the whole thread, but something one cannot repeat often enough is:
Implement PIPED WEAPONSWITCH!
Other than that the balance is pretty good. Only the shock combo is too weak.
Also, there are too few CTF-Maps and they all have way too little armor and shield.
DELETE CTF-Vertebrae. That is not a map, it's a desease.
And don't reduce the speed. Speed is fine, I wouldnn't play this game if it was as slow as other games. Console-guys need to accept that they will always be fragfood when playing without mouse. This is an ACTION-shooter. There are more than enough games with slow movement. This is UT.

Personally, I wanna see Adrenaline and Adrenaline Combos back the most, closely followed by a better double jump [Double jump doesn't do too much at the moment, I guarantee that an extra 50 in UT2004 was double what 50 is in UT3 :P]
Also in an official expansion/extra pack I want more standard mutators [obviously the mod community will keep me satisfied, but I REALLY wanna see what EPIC would make for UT3... Also please don't just bring older mutators, do some fresh stuff too :)]!

WAR maps that have more node complexity, similar to ONS-Dria or ONS-Dawn. Lots of nodes with less linear battle directions.
Rework the UI I'm still not sure how GoW PC got the fully configurable graphics setup in the UI and UT3 got 2 sliders for textures and world detail.
This is probably the most important here but internal balance testing with real community members and teams. This helps to show what the community (and customers) want out of UT more then reading forums does. CoD4 did this and it really shows the extra spit shine.

Period.
In total agreement with this post. I do not need to say anything else. This game is a beta at best. And it will be at least 4 months before we "might" get anything that resembles content additions - which to me is pure shiet, I paid, waited for this game - and its pants.

lolol - /agreed
That map is an absolute joke - just imagin all the effort that went into that lovely looking, unplayable pos map - we could have had like x3 other maps instead of that. I mean, I mostly only play IG CTF, and to have just 6, well 5 maps (everyone always leaves when that map comes on) for a UT game is a joke. Not being horrible, but someone release a Wootabluss (sp?) map, and when I downloaded and had a play, if felt sick. It the same drab, boring CTF game in ut4 - this is a new game, we want new maps - decent maps, not maps made by someone in like 1 days (although respeck due for the effort).

Tbh i find it an ok map, sure not league standards but still it`s different.
It`s a bit unfair to say that it was made in one day though.
If you don`t like it don`t play it simple, there will be many good custom maps in the near future from the community and bonus packs :)

First: new UI, Uwindows was the sh!t.
Second: Nali War-Cow, those guys were hilarious.
Third: Classic Loque model, the new one doesn't look threatening at all. Not like the old one.
Fourth: Server Browser. Let's get this completed, and make it more like UT99's as it was extremely functional.
Fifth: Let's get some of the classic model's redone for UT3, cause thier are a few that just kicked @$$!

What the..?
Just no. Give us a few patches and a bonus pack maybe but you guys are being totally unrealistic.
Personally I'm loving UT3 and I'm planning on playing it for ages with all the user made maps etc...
C'mon guys, give Epic a break.
Community is dying. The game won't be long behind. I've unistalled it and selling my 8800GTS on ebay. My mates and I were all talking about UT3 two months ago. Non of us play it now (and we've been massive UT players since 99.) I keep reading "but user generated stuff will be awsome"... but there won't be much user content because there aren't that many people around as there were for UT2k4.
Oh, and BTW - for those of you that keep saying "if you think the game is dead, why do you keep coming here?"... you never slowed down on the motorway to look at a car crash?;)

Would someone kindly inform me what Assault mode was? This is the 1st Unreal game I've brought.
Assault is a unique gametpye where the goal is to complete a series of objectives. Each team takes a turn at atatcking the objectives and defending them. The team to complete the objectives in the fastest time or get the furest in the map wins.
Maps usually come with a vague storyline and are usually full of little trick jumps and clever tactics.
It was my favourite mode due to it being so interesting and that every match turned out different. Google it for more
oh and BRING BACK ASSAULT EPIC. Really big mistake leaving it out you have basically given us another UT2003 but worse due to its console characteristics.
an UT game with DX10 support is inevitable...UT3.5? or UT4? or UT2008/9.....or whatever...

More fun aspects to the game. Unreal the original had some very funny/comical stuff in there & was very original, then UT spawned from that.
The roots of the game changed somewhat from a fantasy type game to some hardcore bullsh*t.
I like the competitive side of UT for sure, but it has strayed too far from where it began now. Maybe the original developers have left Epic now or something, I don't really know, but I would love to see some of the old Unreal characteristics come back. Probably not gonna happen though.

Everything UT99 is gone. That was and to this day is still the best damn multiplayer game ever created. I could play ut99 for 12 hours straight and never get bored (now if i can play for more then an hour i wanna commit suicide) UT99 players bought into wow ut2k3, ut99 with better graphics. Wrong..... better graphics yes, same gameplay not even close by a mile, was an entirely new game. ut2k3 players went to bf1942 or back to ut99. We were promised a ut99 feel with 2k4 wrong again was still missing. And wow they intorduced ONS ut with vehicles could that have been cause bf1942 took thier precious ut2k3 players away? Now we get this UT3 again promised UT99 gameplay, its still not there. This is like a console game ported to pc. It feels slightly like ut99.
Examples of Sucessful sequels (Games and Movies)
Battlefield Series:
Why has the whole ea/dice battlefield series been so popular and successful? They kept the same gameplay as bf1942 in bf2 and bf2142, They were new games but in a graphical sense. Gameplay stayed the same.
Star Wars(movie)
They kept the same core people and added new ones as it went along. You think that if Luke skywalker was played by someone else it would have stuck? See example of failures below.
Lord Of the Rings:
Same thing as star wars, same original core people with new ones added and the movies progressed, imagine froto(sp?) being played by say sanjaya in the two towers lol.
Lethal Weapon Series:
Same core Mel Gibson, Danny Glover from lethal weapon 1, LW2 they added joe pesci, lw3 added renee russo, lw4 added in chris rock and jet li, action and comedy stayed along the same lines as the first and it got better as it progressed.

Batman
The first 2 were awesome with michael keaton as batman. Then comes the 3rd one with val kilmer, Failure then the 4th one forget it george clooney as batman gag me please.
Unreal 2k3, 2k4, ut3
UT99 had the perfect blend of everything, it was the perfect foundation to something that could have stayed the best game of all time but they failed miserably.
All epic had to do was keep the same exact gameplay, game modes, characters, weapons acted the same as ut99 in ut2k3 but give the characters, weapons and levels a graphical upgrade. No they changed how the weapons acted the way the characters moved, the scaling of the levels. If they kept everything the same from the original and just as the years progressed just make things look better, and they could have just added the new game modes and characters to the existing core of ut99. It should have looked like this.
UT99=Foundation
UT2k3=Everything UT99+Graphical facelift+New Characters(forget thier names)+new levels+Newgame Modes(Double Domination and Bombing Run)
UT2k4=All the previous the same + new graphics + new game mode ONS + any new characters
UT3=all the previous+New Graphics+New Characters+New game mode WAR
Thats it. If they kept the basic fundamentals what made the original so great the sequels would have prospered much better. Once they changed the gameplay in ut2k3 it has been a downward spiral ever since and they are trying to play catch up.
End of my rant. UT3 looks nice but is lacking so much. Sorry for the rambling lol.

I have to second what s8nskeep said. I was so hyped up for UT3 and have been a huge Unreal fan since the original Unreal and have bought and played every game (accept 2k3) since. I bought the special edition of UT3 and was so excited I actually put it down my pants. Now that I have played it for a couple hours I must say that I am done with it. Single player is pathetic and the game is SEVERLY lacking in what an Unreal Tournement game should be. Epic failed, they made a killer engine and decided to gear it towards the console and this is what they get. The worst Unreal Tournament yet overall (right beside 2K3). Generaly a huge lack of content and customization leaves me wanting and I don't like that feeling when it comes to UT; it just shouldn't be there. I hope Epic is happy they pleased the console crowd and left us original fans that paid all the money to get them here today in the dirty, dark dust.

Quite true.
UT3 although it plays more like UT99 than the last 2 versions, it's not fully back to the good old feel. There are so many of my old friends still playing UT99 & they will not convert.
The cars are a nice touch & something different to throw in the mix, but they stray from what UT was. This is a total new game & should be called something different imo.
Warfare is great, but that's all I play on this game atm. Maybe the odd DM now & then, but I'd love a UT99 with new graphics.
Ok there are some UT2k3/UT2k4 people who would complain, but they probably never played UT99 to know how good it was anyway.

First of all; I don't want to see an add-on pack... add-ons cost money, and I had enough "add-ons" with the 2003-2004 conversion.
Second; I think the game should be up to spec before you put out more content for it... because if the game doesn't work right now, then you're likely to have to fix the content you added to it later.
Third; I would also like to see an extension of the single player continue into the actual tournament... but I think it would be cool to retain the co-op aspect, so that you can take friends or clan members on the journey with you.
Fourth; I would like to see an option for instagib weapons in the single player campaign (for those of us who like instagib), with a modded instagib rifle or armor for vehicles that wouldn't allow them to explode in one hit.
Fifth and most importantly; I'd like to see a balance between maps in gametypes. Each one has it's own particular appeal, and not one of them should be cast as better than the others.

An option to change the starting weapon to possibly the shield gun or that weird one from Unreal 1 that morphed when you picked up the power-ups for it...
A few more character models would be a nice touch.
I'd like to see some Skarrj and Skarrj weaponry make it into the game.
One other thing, I saw the request for the Tournament Storyline, that would be cool. Even if it was a seperate Tournament Story Mode. :)

Bot behaviour sliders ala UT99 that allow you to modify;
- Field Tactics (Awareness of objectives, pickups, level hazards, camping spots)
- Accuracy
- Aggresiveness
- Jump Activity (Bunny hopping or not)
- Combat Tactics (Using Feign Death effectively, being aware of explosive items, effective weapon cycling and use, effective movement ei; running, crouching, strafing, turning)
I definitely second this. It is badly needed.

s8nskeep has it exactly right. we're all just watching a big slow motion car crash here, and it's a shame that most of us don't even seem to realize it.
i would just like to see epic going back to making unreal the single player version & unreal tournament going back to its mp roots. id rather have all the customization & features that are standard for a mp game, than a single player game which will prolly be completed over a weekend.
Yes!
i ahve to say i really liked Unreal 2 and UT2K3/4 being seperate games, one distinctly SP the other MP ofc. The quick references to the Liandro Tournament always made me smile in Unreal 2 and i'd really like to see Unreal (NOT tournament) 3 come out as a single player oriented game, as opposed to trying to cram a deep story line into a what has always been a tourney style MP game.

what are you talking about? no one plays 2k3 anymore. And if you call releasing a new game 'splitting the community', then Epic should not have released UT3.
And they shouldn't have, imo, not for another month or two.
i just dont see why people keep whining about the gameplay. ok the content lacks, thats true, but the intention of the game is just the same
Are you serious? The 'intention' of the game? if someone 'intended' for a building to not collapse under normal conditions, but it does, then you don't see why people sue the construction contractor?

As a long time fan of EPIC i bought this game because it was UT and as far as i was concerned that meant quality.
That was dashed as soon as i fired up a game of CTF.
I can put up with bugs, lack of characters and even the taunts not working.
But white arrows leading me around a map is just insulting.

If you want the game to feel exactly like ut99 they just ****ing play ut99. This is a new game, people just move on already.
It's people like the above that have been the major contributors to the rapid decrease in popularity of the UT games with each subsequent release of a new UT.
Yes, a new game is supposed to be 'different' to previous ones in some way. But when you take away the feel of the original, you're removing the very essence of what makes the original so good. Let's not kid ourselves here, sequels are only released to feed off the success of the original (otherwise they would arbitrarily name the new game rather than choose to attach the name of the original to the that of the sequel).
To do that, the core aspects of the original need to be retained. This was not done in Ut2k3 and this very fact is exemplified by the nerfed quake style weapons. Such a move was done to satisify knobs like yourself and as such ruined the UT series (note how the popularity of the UT series started to decline at the same time that nerfed weapons were introduced, put two and two together). The weapons in UT3 are only slightly more UT99 like than those of ut2k3/2k4 but they still feel too non-UT (ie.too quake like) because they are too weak. Or more precisely, not UT99 enough. FFS, I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but the ROF of a beserked UT3 Flak Cannon is only the same as that of the normal UT99 Flak Cannon, the UT3 Flak is a pee shooter in comparison. The only saving grace are the excellent vehicles which can at least give the player a UT99 feel. That is, the feeling that they have their hands on something with huge (or least good) destructive power. Again, for the UT series to be popular, the UT99 feel needs to be focused on. Otherwise you'll just end up with a sequel that'll never reach the popularity of UT99.
Hmm i would like to see implanted besides the bug fixes.

The era of hardcore FPS dominance is gone long time ago. Actually it was the only valid reason why UT2k4 had less fans then UT99. So your personal preferences and feelings have nothing in common with actual reasons of the UT3 lack of popularity. The game isn't polished enough for multyplayer, and simply unplayable for instant action, that's the problem.

I think it is pretty early to worry or even necessarily want an add on, new game or whatever. Now with such a thriving mod community you can get just about whatever you want. Either through searching or putting in requests. I think there are quite a few out there that get "stuck" and need/want ideas. If you want to try to get a moder to make something, post your ideas here (http://forums.epicgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=339).
Now I do agree we could have had more, but when have we ever said "Man, I got too much for that game.."
Most of what you want is out there, or will be made by the great community. There is tons of talent and the mods/maps etc are starting to flow.
Anyway if you want to try a map that is specifically designed to bring back the tournament, check out my new beta in my sig. It is an arena map for the tournament. Good fun!

You've got to be kidding me. I'll enlighten you then:
If the multiplayer sucks then people need to turn to singleplayer. If the singleplayer also sucks then there is nothing good about the game. Get it now?
