What are the golden rules for mapping for VCTF?

What are things in vCTF maps that you have seen that shouldn't have been done, design, flow, and item placement wise?

Driving the flag around in vehicles.
No shortage of neutral vehicles near the flags and in midfield.
Mostly stick with vehicles that can carry the flag.
In other words... UT3 vCTF is ruined and requires mods.

UT3 still has great VCTF gameplay, just requires more teamwork and luck.

Well i think there should be at least one vehicle you can carry the flag in like the scorpion.:(

I think the most successful maps tend to have multiple routes to the flags, one of which is wide open enough for vehicles. The map is not so big that flag running on foot is prohibitive, nor so small that vehicle use is pointless. The routes are punctuated with places to take cover from vehicles without shielding from them entirely. There is a good variety of vehicles to allow for different play styles. Every vehicle has a basic countermeasure in the form of weapons, terrain, or other vehicles, so that no one type dominates all the others. (This covers things like tanks not being able to fire into spawning areas and raptors not being able to make unopposed flag runs.)

Generally speaking, I think the default UT3 maps suffer from being too confining for vehicles, and also from a misconception that the AVRiL is some kind of superweapon.
