Hiho,

I just released the final version of my UT3 map DM-FST-Morbias.

Name: DM-FST-Morbias

Version: 1.0

Compatibility: UT3 (including beta patch 101)

Description:
This map is a remake of DM-Morbias from the original UT by EPIC Games. I tried to get as close as possible to the original gameplay while adding 2 secret places with shaped charges. The looks and lighting have been changed to fit into Unreal Tournament 3. Here is the map's text:
"From the older days of the Tournament Liandri resurrected this small arena for matches of insane carnage. This time they added two shaped charges in hidden places for even more destructive action."

Comments:
This map contains a working preview-pic, recommended player count and a descrition.
To install this map you simply need to extract the archive to the "My Documents" folder.
For further instructions either look into the readme or the text on the download-page.
I hope you have fun with this map. :)

original morbias wasn't so dark but w/e it's still a great remake plus i like the hidden charges :D. One thing, why does it take more than a second for the elevator's to move :X

Sadly you didn't raise the lighting like everyone in the beta threads was telling you to do. That's an instant turn off for me. The original map was well lit and used a more "concrete" texture package. I could deal with the texture changes if it were for the blue and red light...especially at the low levels they're at.

I hope you are right about that. I know folks have been trying and I am the first one to applaud that but none of the maps that have been released so far should ever have been released to the public. All the maps I have played so far are learning maps and that is about it. So hopefully this map is worth being put in this area and will be a keeper. I am looking forward to when people put in some real time to make their maps before they release them. I remember when people would work on UT04 maps for weeks and weeks before they released them and you could really tell that they worked very hard on them.

This is an even more complex engine and yet people are releasing maps that they spent all of one week on. Please don't do that to us ... we are hungry for content this is true but we can all wait for quality content. So please level designers just take your time. I can't wait until some of the more well known mappers start to release maps in about a month or so. You know those are going to be good because people will have taken some time to develop them not just three or four days.

There are also so many improvements that make things far easier and faster within the engine.
The long process is creating stuff OUTSIDE of the Engine.
Inside it is much easier and faster. (when it comes to maps)

I needed a blue shader for the sky... ...one click to create an instance of the green shader from the game... ...then 6 or 7 clicks to change the color and some other parameters for rotation speed, etc... ...finished.
That had been much more work in earlier version.
Pathing: easier and faster
Optimization: easier and faster
Lighting: neat features to make it more comfortable.
some other things...

The lighting is good, I don't understand why people are complaining about it. The map looks awesome and it plays like I'm used to.

I hvnt downloaded yet, but it looks sweet and I'm about to in a moment. But I've got to ask, why'd you choose shaped charges? I hvnt found them to be incredibly useful but then again I hvnt seen them used in DM before.

This is defiantly one map to keep, for old UT fans, and DM fans.
Played 3 matches, and the map is nicely balanced as far as I can tell, and is a good rendition of the original as far as I remember it (going back a few years now since I missed out playing UT 2000 series altogether)

This is one map I will be recommending to people who own the game, as a 1 on 1, it still is small enough to give a decent game without it dragging on to find the player. The map is also fairly hilarious and manic when playing with more than the recommended amount of people.
As for the question of lighting, it could do with a bit more, but I can't see any problem with the way it is at the moment as I feel it fits UT3's style

Awesome job. I got all tingly playing that. Felt like I warped back 8 years ago to playing that map. Same gameplay as the original just better looking visually. 2 thumbs up :)

The bots don't seem to know what to do with the charges. The just want to hand them to me. And I say no thanks and blow them up with the rocket launcher.

I like the map, but have some points:

1.
It is a bit too dark. I can't really see what's going on (I have a calibrated monitor, so I don't want to change the settings everytime I want to play this map).

2.
Way too many pickups. Have people fight over the resources a bit. After 3 matches I noticed that I constantly fired 3 rockets when on the 1st floor and 3 grenades when on the 2nd floor. I did this even when I didn't see my opponent, going for a lucky shot in the dark (pun intended).
As a side note: is it possible to have everyone start with the RL? That way you also need a lot less pickups.

3.
It is too small. The original map was an oval instead of a circle, and in my opinion that played better.

4.
I would really like to see 2 (20 point) health kegs and/or some health vials.

5.
Maybe a bug on my machine, but the redeemer is invisible when it first spawns. After someone has picked it up the first time, it does show.
I discovered this when exploring the map on my own. After I had checked the map, I went towards the center and was contemplating why you hadn't included a pickup on that central spot. When I walked over it, I heard the pickup sound but didn't know what happened at first (I have weapons hidden and no auto weapon switch).

Layout and weapon placement is exactly as the original. It was never an oval.


Never heard about nor had the pickup bug. If someone else has it, I release a fixed version.

cool man, this is one of those maps that looks alot better with bloom etc.. i think the scale could be slightly bigger though? feels quite confined i think, but nice job anyway, its really good!

Morbias was a good map back then and this is a good remake of it. I tried it almost instantly after the final release but I didn't get around to comment on it until now.

For those wondering about the PS3:

You will be able to dl any map to a portable media and upload it to your PS3. As I understand it, the differences between the PS3 and the PC have to do with player camera turning radius, vehicle speed, weapon firing speed, etc...

Custom created content will be playable regardless of the system or console.

It's mentioned in a Gamasutra article here: Gamasutra interview with Mark Rein (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/2556/the_unreal_man_mark_rein_speaks.php)

Sorry about the off topic post fuegerstef. Just answering questions to get people back on track. =P

EDIT: Fueg might need to resave the map with the PS3 format if I'm reading the article correctly. Sounds easy enough though.

Just tried it (hadn't had the time before) and the map really feels good, it plays atleast as good as the original and the graphics are as if the map was made by epic (but then without the blur lol :D).

I hope this map will be used for 2v2/1v1 competetive play :)

Can you consider moving Fetid before Stalwart.. we had many stalwart maps in 2k4, but I'd like to see other UT maps have their chance to return before a map most everyone is already overly familiar with..

I haven't downloaded any maps yet, this is a very noobish question: Why would you have to extract files to "my documents" in order to install the map? Wouldn't you want maps somewhere in your UT3 folder?

That's where UT3 reads the maps.

I don't have all the graphical power needed to make it look like the screenshots so I have no idea how dark it really is but it sure it fun especially with the slo-mo death mutator!

I had numerous remakes of this for 2k4 that were all boring. I still play the original in ut99. This one is better.

You can put them in the ut3 folder.

Wow, nice map. Just as I remember. Great for dueling!

My only critisism would be the lighting in the central chamber is a little too much, perhaps a few shadows behind the pillars and a steam vent here and there would add great effect.

You should never discourage people from releasing their maps....you as the enduser don't NEED to download them, and it takes a lot for someone to release their work for public criticism. A modder will never know how his work is received unless he releases it, and that should be encouraged. The good maps will survive, and the not so good ones will receive a lot of feedback for the modder to apply to future maps.

No. The scripting is actually easy because of Kismet. It is last on the list, because I never played it so much in UT.

Good advice. It's also one of the principles of open source/commons based peer production development. Don't be afraid to release your code for feedback even if it is somewhat beta (just let people know). That's how much great software evolves on the web.

Map's great indeed - perfectly follows the original concept, also those SCs in secret area are fun to plant around and see unlucky ones go boom :)

This map rules, plain and simple. The gameplay is fast and fierce. Add the "slow time after kill" mutator to really have a blast ;)

As for the lighting, I think it's fine considering it's atmospheric.

No complaints on my end. Great job.
