View Full Version : [Request] Port of all standard DM/CTF UT99 maps

Hi,

I would like a direct port of all UT99 DM and CTF maps, a nice map pack called the UT99 map pack.

Is this possible... Wouldnt it be great ?! Any thoughts...

Maybe someone could write some code to port it all :), anyway I hope I put some ideas in the creative minds that lurk around these forums.

What on earth are people thinking when they request something like this? :confused: Do they not know that remaking a map properly takes quite some time so remaking all maps take a very long time (or quite a few people, provided they all work simultaneaously). I'm sure mappers who are interested in remaking a particular UT99 map will do so though.

I was not thinking of recreation, but a code that would enable you to export out of UT99 and import in to UT3.

No need for fancy graphics or stuff like that just the UT99 maps with UT3 weaponry.

I make it sound simple, can it be done?

You couldn't write any code that would 'port' all of the maps over. You could potentially copy all of the BSP into UED3 and you would have the geometry, but you would have to redo lighting, any fluid such as lava, bot pathing so that AI works on each map, rig skydomes for each map that needs them, and any Assault maps would require some scripting to get the objectives working again in UE3.

Per map that's not a HUGE challenge, but for every map that would be insane unless you had a rather large, dedicated team.

Excuse me, this is the request area, im merly requesting or trying to vent my ideas. I'm not holding a gun to anyone's head, you could have made that up if you would have thoroughly red my opening post, please try not to post garbage.

Regarding your instruction... I do not know how to make maps, nor do I have the time sadly, but I love the stuff that is made by my fellow fraggers, its awesome!

Sound good but it is a lot of work, and I assure you that there are many remakes currently in works. Give mappers some time to learn new toys, that is reason why all custom maps so far are just crap.
