Beef v0.9.0 BETA
Compatibility: Tested under UT3 v1.1 Beta patch, should work in 1.0 also.
Contributors: MonsOlympus, Henrik 'BerZ' Ryosa
Beef is a mutator that changes UT3's functionality in several areas. Most of the tweaks are meant to give UT3 a bigger, badder, more fun feel & an experience closer to what the original UT represented.
Beta feature list:
- "BeefBender" is an upgrade of the Hellbender with a larger, more rugged offroad feel. The changes in speed (moderate increase), suspension & handling make it much more of a joyride.
- The beefed up manta has some slight handling changes and a higher ride, which makes it now much more difficult to kill crouched players & depending on how flat the terrain is, sometimes fully standing players, without stomping them. Speaking of pancakes, these now feel much more satisfying to perform!
- Improved team coloring: Texture colors should appear more vibrant & "UT" looking overall. Armor light emissiveness has been boosted. Regular DM skin lights are also now more emissive with gold lights. In UT3, since skins appear differently with world detail at its highest and lowest, and different races have different overall visibility, nearly a full day of work went into bringing a balanced but colorful look to all teams without relying as much on the brightskin overlay & also reduces bloom effects on players which tend to wash out the textures even more.
- Team skin overlay distance is configurable via ini. Leaving the default value of 1500 is highly recommended for a classic UT:GOTY look. A value of 0 will result in overlays always on, "UT2004 brightskin style".
- Configurable spawn protection via ini
- Configurable Tank Health via ini
- Double jumping is replaced with an increased single jump. It is now possible to stomp enemies. Jumpboots work with single jump, however dodge jumps are still possible with boots.
- A very slight adjustment in player scale
- Jump air control reduced by fraction
----------------
Known bugs:
- BeefBender scaling currently causes mesh to sometimes appear slightly inside ground, when initially spawned. Fix planned.
- A similar issue exists with player pawns, but is not bothersome. Should be addressed in full version.
- Bender may behave differently and more prone to flipping due to its new more hardcore feel. Treat this as something you should try to get used to first, then provide suggestions for how stability might be improved after you have tried it for a while.
- Mutator configuration menu is not yet functional - this is not exactly a bug, but it should be known.
- Bots may or may not behave differently because of pawn property changes. Whether they can still reach all places they could before is not fully tested, but tweaking has been done to correct odd behaviors in certain maps and should hopefully solve most of them.
----------------
Planned features:
- Team color replacement: Red & Blue with Green & Gold, Orange & Purple, etc.
- Other tweakable skin features via config menu
- Increased team linking distance
- Jump boots provide multi jumps of varying amounts @ varying cost of boosts.. ie a single bootjump takes 1 charge, a double jump takes multiple charges, with an increased total number of charges.
- All ini controlled variables controlled via mut config menu
- Various vehicle modifications & improvements to current feature set
For those curious, I am planning to release the team skin stuff as a standalone mut shortly, for those who want that but not some of the other features. Also we intend to make Beef as configurable as possible so in the end you're not forced to use certain arbitrary changes, like removing double jump. For now take it or leave it ;)
