CTF-Chrome3
Name: Chrome 3
Version: Beta-phase
Compatibility: UT3
Description:
A remake of CTF-Chrome.
Comments:
This is my 6th map i did, ever. Took me 3 days and nights so far.
It is a little more open and the sizing in the center is a tad bigger.
Other than that it feels like the original one. I think it is pretty close.
Weapon-placement is the same, but i made up the player spawns and
some other minor things.. :)
What i need to know:
How to add a music-track (choose from game content) to my map?
How to push a player into a single direction when he enters a certain volumen?
How to adjust the overall map scaling (player height)?
How does the gameplay feel compared to the original one?
Credits:
Epic for the original content and game. 3DBuzz for teaching me so much!

It looks really nice! Good job. :)
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is, the floor looks a little flat (wait for it..) is there any chance of spicing it up some? Maybe make some indents or special panels ever so often?

Looks too dark to me, you need to add some low intensity lights to bring up the ambient light level some.

If i find out how to make an arch in the existing BSP cube.. :)
Last time i tried to do this it messed everthing up. I orginally wanted to add
some sort of glass dome as a roof for the center hallways.
Didn't work out so well ^^
Or i just make the floor lower than the doors, and then build my own
"tube-like" floor with some static meshes, just like the ceiling.

For some reason I think thats how games will look in this engine.
Depth of field effects maybe.

Check this out and read my reply (the first reply after the OP). It looks like you're both building the same map and using the same texture package to do it. My comment applies both places.

OH **** THIS MAP LOOKS FAKING GREAT, BEST IVE SEEN-IT LOOKS LIEK IT REALLY DOES BELONG IN UT3(ofc the floor could be better less flat like the other guy said) NICE WORK MAN, CANNOT WAIT UNTIL THE FULL
IM GOING TO PLAY THIS NOW !!!!!!!!!
This looks great - like the other complaints though, I'd say it's a little too dark. Chrome from 2k4 was relatively light, see if you can add some nice lighting effects in there.

+10.. I applaud any of the old maps being remade. UT3 could have been a eyecandy update with all the same maps and I would have bought it in a heartbeat..
Chrome is teh pwn
I have the same general comments as everyone else, its a bit dark in particular. I'll likely drop this map on my pub server so players can give it a go tonight. Server is not pure b/c of unlimited translocator mod so if anyone wants to try it out they will have to make sure to change their browser settings.

can you explain a little more, please? do you mean that you can't move much while in air or that the jump takes too long?
you go on the jump pad you get up in a straight line then you stop in the air and fall to the edg it feals wired... maybe to set the landing spot a bit more to the middle would help but don't know if it's possible with the angle (angel oO)

The only I see is that you need to redo the bot paths, so they use both the left and right hallways.

One of my favorite CTF maps, definitely will try it. But I agree it needs more light, barely can see anything on the screens.

hail again!
two or three guys ask about "more light"...
I say that the map lights are perfect... I think that the screenshots are dark, but ingame, are perfect..
If the walls have the colors of the bases, will be perfect.
Red Walls on Red base.
Blue Walls on Blue base.
Cheers
ps.: sorry for my fuk*n bad english!

I am still hoping this map gets it's final touches..... loving what is here already!
Looks really promising. Old Chrome was very cramped a notorius Overtime map.
This one looks like the corridors have been made wider and more room. Very promising, will download and have a look at it.
It looked really good on the screenshots, but i just tested it ingame and i don't really like it - n/o :) (i tested as an iCTF player myself :))
The map doesn't look 'finished' - i know this is a beta, so therefor i'll keep an eye on this thread :)

nice but abit dark (i've trieit ingame)
How to add a music-track (choose from game content) to my map?
Should be a MusicArrangement or somesuch in World Properties in MyMapInfo. Pick an arrangement from the A_Music package.
How to push a player into a single direction when he enters a certain volumen?
A special type of volume does that. Check VCTF-Sandstorm (only example I can remember)... it has one of these volumes at the south gorge. Pushes Furies back onto the map. I'm not sure... might only work for vehicles, though.

How does the gameplay feel compared to the original one?
Go under world properties under the view menu. Choose one of the tracks from A_MusicArrangements.
You need to adjust the direction of your physics volume as well as how much he will push. Take a look at the physics volumes in DM-CarbonFire or in my DM-TheConveyor map.
As for map scaling, you'll just have to play test it from within the editor and make sure it feels not too large but not too small, enough room to dodge and move around.

hey guys. sorry for bailing this thread but i never got around finishing it. i stopped playing UT3 all of a sudden, for reasons i dont know anymore.
Since it looks like there is still interest, which i am very grateful for, i just decided to finish this thing. I will do a quick recap on all the comments made and push an update ASAP.

This map would be one of the 2k3/04 maps worth bringing forward IMO, i played your map, matter of fact tested it on a Lan with 4 vs 4 this past weekend, was fun and brought back memories.
You did a nice job on the city back-drop - my compliments.
The map seems like its scaled very large, IMO, the entire map needs about a 10%-20% reduction, i felt like a little guy in a big world running around. :)
It also has the dreaded UT3 organic dead-look (this really isn't your fault teh.m3nt0r) its more to do with the lack of available themes in UT3, that said you might consider to adjust some of your textures, and to include some additional trim and deco, just ad idea if you still have any interest in finishing the map.
I can help you maybe with this map if your interested, as far as the scaling, music, etc. Feel free to give me a shout.

This map is in beta for 3 years, an teh.m3nt0r hasn't post any news for more than half a year.
You can play it, there is a working DL link up there.
You disagree with a 9 months old message, so let us know why. Please help yourself making good sentences to explain your point of view.
I remember play-test it, and it was quite fun [in fact, it was CTF-biomium](even if I agree with the fact that Chrome is not da best stock map eva). I'll be looking for what I could do for it.

there is another quite good remake of Chrome called CTF-Biomium:

and here's a thread with a collection of remade maps from the UT-series:
