I'm sure there's going to be an import of this map from the previous games.

I don't see the fuss about it, it's horribly basic and only got 1 possible flag route, which can be sniped almost the whole distance, puts the emphasis too much into TDM territory, you can't get the flag with stealth and cunning, you need a whole team of guys to take out all the snipers.

The map isnt made for tactics, its made for fun and its one of the most beautifull and has one of the best athmospheres. Its just beautifull and I sometimes get dizzy when watching the worlds spin by.

For those with the CE of UT3, watch the history of Unreal Tournament...as was stated, it is absolutely the most played map in the history of the UT series, if not the history of the FPS genre (discounting Counter Strike). It was a phenomenon. NO, it's not a great CTF map from a competitive standpoint, but it was a fun, cheese-filled map that always garunteed fast-paced high action games.

Yes, FACE sucks, but it was also one of the most fun maps in history of UT.

It seems you always find a different angle to be... different then the majority, your special, hehe :). Although I agree on your analyses regarding strategic layout.

CTF-Face is a monumental map, fantastic yet simple layout, I can hear the UT99 music in my head when I think of it. Infact this map is an archetype of what the UT-series is ment to be, fun fragging.

Although opinions differ, which is good :o.

Face suck for clan matches, but is the most fun for regular online public server play. this map rocks! Untill an aim botter joins the server.. haha

Yep, we would pub often on FACE for kicks, but always groaned when an opponenet picked it in a Ladder match as their map choice.

I'm guessing that much of the huge UT99 CTF community got hooked playing on FACE only servers. I too remember those early days (before I turned the music off in the game) connecting to FACE in a server and seeing that awe-inpiring sky-box and hearing that ground-breaking UT synth-music starting. It was part of what initiated the phenemonon that was the original Unreal Tournament.

Face is a prime example of why so many people got hooked on UT. None of the subsequent games, including UT3, have been able to capture the original UT atmosphere. This one captures the FEEL, but misses the atmosphere by a mile....as did the 2k* games.

Face wasn't the only map either. Those Original UT maps were just...special. It's hard to describe, but there was just something drawing about them. I think everyone who was truly hooked on UT99 is just longing for that original feeling.

I think Epic needs to re-release some of the original maps but leave them alone. No adding new "stuff." Upgrade a few graphics here and there, but leave the layouts IDENTICAL. None of this dark texturing and lighting crap. I remember the utter disappointment playing Orbital 2 for the first time and expecting it to be ANYTHING like the original. This is a prime example of breaking perfection.
