From my experiences from doing mods using UT2K4, scripting was very heavily involved in order to use my own character models with animations and my own custom weapons and such.

With UT3... I have no idea. I LOVE the Kismet system. It's the virtual editing scripting tool that makes triggering events a piece of cake.. but for scripting on using your own weapons and such.. I'm lost..

Perhaps someone here with the expertise can help us out.

Depends on what you want to do. You don't have to do any scripting (assuming you don't consider Kismet/Matinee/Cascade scripting) if you only want to use stock things... if you want to make your own version of something, even something simple like changing how long something takes or lasts or how much of whatever it does, then a fair bit of scripting is involved.
