This beta2 version is for a competition this weekend only, after the tournament is over, we will be working on a much more polished version of ironic!

GJ, finally someone other then my self used proper lighting effects.
looks good so far,
too many people right now lighting there maps the same way they did in 2k4 not knowing there doing it all wrong for this new engine. I congradualate you.

you serious? the lighting is awful! i just wanted to get it out the door by today so we can use it in my tournament haha!

wow looks so identical to the 2k4 version nice work man, scale and everything even that little thing by 50 that u can crouch/walk on. GJ some parts by 50 needs some like meshes of decorations on the wall and around the window. yeah Do something to hide the square corners on the walls

Agreed, the lighting needs a lot of work but the geometry is looking good :)
The lighting needs some tweaking but i have one important question. Is the remake scaled for Unreal Tournament 3 player size and movement type at all?

yes, the 2004 map architecture was imported into UT3, then i had to scale it down to match UT3's movement. I also had to change some things for some of the trick jumps too due to UT3's nerfed double jump.

I don't like the look, because it it doesn't fit in the new look of the ut3 maps. And the lighting needs many improvements, too.
So why don't you redesign the map completly, maybe into a look like DM-Diesel or something darker from the original?
And still some gameplay related areas should be differnt:
- Shock -> Jump upwards Vials / Bio (Should be lower)
- Shock -> Mini (Should be lower)
- Armor-Room should be smaller i think
- Rocket-Room should be bigger
- Jump from Rocket -> Shock isn't working now

The scale is 1:1, everything is exactly the same. The only thing that changed is the UT3 models/viewheight etc, and the jumps got nerfed so i did change a few. All the jumps that you could do in 2k4 are possible in this map, some are tougher though.
I am thinking of adding a helmet armor somewhere, and moving some weapons around...
But as far as the meshes go, I do agree that the map needs to be spruced up for UT3, but Marrysfyre, the guy who gave me the 1:1 scale for UT3 wanted the map to be an EXACT copy, so thats what we are doing.
For the final release, we will be making the meshes and architecture much more vibrant, and the lighting will be spectacular!

oh, now this looks cool! But! please make lower a bit lower scaling version later, and lighting now looks very bad :/ too bright! and its like one solid (white) color. Do something wit h it too!
I havent been able to play extensively yet but i do think there is a solution for trick jumps. You could make some places acessable if you get them close enough for a double jump wall dodge.

You should really add a second texture to each of the textures, also known as the detail texture for close ups, I dont know how familiar you are about doing so with materials but if you need some help you can check out this small tutorial showing you how.

Most UT2k4 textures do this if you look closely.
Another thing that would be nice, not really a must though but it'd be much appreciated if so, is to adjust the meshes in Maya or Max with some higher polycount, and then transformed into a displacement map for ultimate detail on your current meshes.
I trust you will do great on the lighting, but I'd like to add that adjusting some of the post processing colors could ultimately increase the feel of a more UT3 map. You might already know this, but I'd like to remind you on how much of an impact it can have if done right on your map, this might disturb your friend, but hopefully he'll like the more richer, and newer look.
Lastly I'd like to say that the gameplay feels excellent, infact it feels like this will be more fun in UT3 then it was in UT2k4. The scale seems to fit much nicer then it did in UT2k4.

just needs better lighting. the brightness seems too ambient coming from nowhere like its q3.

I'm going to go wild on the level's visuals before the final release, don't worry, all that stuff you guys are talking about visually hasn't even been started on (this release was rushed for some tournament konsept wanted the map ready for)
awsome job so far! really good! But I agree with another post. Change it so it looks more like a UT3 map. Take Deck for instance. Maybe make it all worn and rundown and broken. As far as fps go. This map runs better than any of the shipped maps do so far. thumbs up for that!

the hell? used Unreal for 9 yrs and i have no idea what your going on about, you cant tell this stuff untill you open the properties for the light AND mesh AND bsp O_o
judgeing from your current maps and theyre lighting i dont feel this was to much of an accurate post :P

One word to characterize this map is perfect :) The scale is also ok as it is now, now need to change it. And in general this is an example of how good map remakes should be done. The only thing i have to mention is that you forgot to put vials near the link area,or maybe i didnt get your idea and its meant to be played without them for some gameplay and balance reasons.
And I didnt sort out yet, have you changed the spawn points or they still remain the same as in ut2k4?
P.S. Any chance of DM-Gael? :rolleyes: I desperately need a map like this for aim training.
What I noticed first is that it looked exactly like the UT2004 version, in the textures you've used. Remaking a map isn't just copying everything, it's also adding your own twist to it. Making everything in a completely different theme while keeping the basic layout the same makes it more 'your' map, and less a direct port. I can't speak for others, but speaking for myself, I've seen those textures enough, by now.

Yeah, I also don't think it's the author's intention to innovate the Ironic theme/gameplay - a good port is what's needed in competitions.

Konsept has basically left the rest of the work to me.. unfortunately I'm very busy with other maps and work and etc etc etc at the moment. I will finish this map eventually, but I'm going to take the time to do it right. With a long Christmas break coming up that will keep me away from my home computer and things at work about to get really busy after that, I don't expect to resume work on the map until sometime around next February.

Theirs a map converter floating around which allows you to convert maps from 2k4 into UT3 style, though its not perfect.

yah i quit this one, there is a WAY better version of ironic floating around, i think by the same guy that did the rankin remake!
