OK its clear that the workarounds for setting up a UT3 server do not work on all routers in my opinion so I think we should start a list of ones that work and ones that don't. I've given up trying to get my server running as I have tried everything I can possibly think of apart from trying to find out if the router itself does actually make a difference, also if you see someone with the same router as you here and they have it working then you will know it is possible, so here goes,

Can't get server working:- using a DLink DI-524.

(Maybe this list could help the powers that be solve this issue.)

Is this pre patch or after?

Previous to the beta patch our DLink DGL-4300 Gamers Lounge router worked
After the patch, no go.

I use the same router as you, had no problems getting a server to work through NAT. See this post for details: http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=587587

This isnt a 'router problem' - this thread is not going to identify any magic bullet that is going to help Epic in any way. Its useless to start listing routers that work and dont work. The problem is almost certainly one of the following things:
1. Patch / non-patch interoperability incompatibility
2. Port-forwarding error on the server side
3. Firewall error on the server side
4. PEBKAC

I'm not the only one with this problem. I'd just like to solve it.

Too many other variables for this to be simply a router model problem.

Firmware, configuration, personal firewalls all come into play. Most people don't even know XP SP2 has a firewall turned on by default.

its very odd that this many people are having this issue. Discovering the ports was a pain agreed, lack of server documentation didnt help there either. However that being said I have successfully gotten 2 servers behind nat'd firewalls running successfully (after patching) If possible can u run a packet sniffer like "Wireshark" and capture the udp packets going to and from your pc? I did this and thats when I discovered something wrong with my gamespyid. I simply created another one within the unreal client and then it was fixed. Then I created a dedicated server from within the game and used the dedicatedserver.log it generated to create my command line for my dedicated servers. And of course we're all assuming our ISP's arent blocking well known server ports.

Go here http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?p=25125220#post25125220 and read post 20. I don't believe this is a fault or incapability of any router, I think this is an incapability of UT3 to communicate properly with certain routers.
