im sitting on the tutorial labeled 003_Basic_level_pt1, and ive noticed a few differences with my own experience using the UE3 Editor compared to the video tutorials, its particularly annoying when i get to the part where i have the 2 rooms and im creating the corridor section to link them together, Ive noticed a few differences on screen,
1) from the very beginning when selecting each wall i noticed a difference, when i click 1 wall it will do what is represented in the tutorial and be highlighted in blue, other walls however dissapear completely when selected, it still appears to work when this happens when applying materials to them so i ignored it as perhaps just a glitch.
2) before using "CSG subtract" to carve the section out for the corridor i can clearly see a block of black that i assumed was the 2nd room, but after carving and continuing further on to "clean bsp materials" this black block doesnt represent the other room accurately and seems to stay centered on my screen while moving, its basically still showing even though the other room wouldnt be where its showing, it doesnt show on any other wall but the one with the room and corridor section.
3) They try to show you an easy way to take a texture from a wall you have already done and apply it to the corridor wall to save time, however i cant do this, if i click the wall with the texture, hold alt then go to click on the corridor wall it will not apply, instead the "crosshair" type pointer either does not appear when i move over the section of wall or it does and when i click, it doesnt apply the texture (im assuming this is changing to the crosshair because it is thinking im wanting to highlight part of the wall from the other room). Also something worth noting is that this black block i have appears to make the textures that is applied to the corridor (the one automatically applied as it was the last you used) transparent slightly but not the textures applied to the walls of either room, instead it either blacks out the section entirely or blacks it out but still shows part of the texture inside it. I assume that this may be the root of my problem.
Just for quick note, i am following the tutorial video to the letter, i made sure the corridor piece was alligned perfectly, i even started all over from scratch because of this issue, thinking i had perhaps made a mistake. I also have not changed or played around with any settings on the Editor but i suspect that it perhaps was set up differently to the way it is set up for the tutorials, obviously there is something going on.
Any help you can give me on correcting this would be appreciated.
EDIT 1:
I forgot to mention, when going from lit to unlit the black box dissapears, i obviously assumed it may just be something that happens with the lit option and with the lighting for the rooms (slightly confusing as this doesnt happen on the tutorial video).
EDIT 2:
I have just bypassed the walls by selecting the wall then choosing the material and resizing it, however I cannot select the floor of the corridor so i cant change that texture at all.
EDIT 3:
Ive managed to finish the level off as far as tutorial is concerned but it was quite difficult selecting the flooring altogether, even the floors i was previously able to select by just point and clicking were not allowing me to select them (i also tried saving and quiting and coming back in), i ended up having to aim the mouse at the very edge of the floor where it intersected with a wall to be able to select them and i was able to retexture the floor and resize and align the textures using the adjacent floors option. Im assuming its some kind of bug, but if it isnt and theres perhaps a setting that i may need to change id appreciate any help, ill check back later on and see.
Thanks
