View Full Version : Crosshair change

i like the crosshairs in UT3, but if you compare it with ut2k4, they are lame.
i cant change the color, you cant change the size, you even cant change the crosshair when aktivated one crosshair 4 all weapons...
this isn't good i think, maybe somebody can build a utility to fix that.
the imporatnt thing is changing the size, the crosshairs in UT3 are huge

there is a way to change it, without altering game files
it's a program that can extract textures from memory, and save it to your harddrive
then you can alter the textures as you see fit, create a package, and the program will load the new texture into system memory instead of the orginal one.
Currently i'm awaiting permission to post that program, because this utility can possibly be used for cheating (like changing the alpha textures in the memory, to create invisible walls or something like that,)

maybe there will be a "change crosshair" menu available in the next patch
but otherwise, pls tell me when your programm is released

yea i also dont like the crosshair. I want to create my own like in Quake Wars theres a big menue for it. UT3 is a big beta ;-)

first of all it's not my program, it was created by someone else for certain games in which modding was not possible, due to hardcoded data.
I'll need to do some testing for certain cheats, since this program could potentially be used for altering things like alpha's en lightmaps,(translated: invisible walls, no more hiding in the shadows) if i'm certain these two are not possible, i'll post the link to the program with intructions.
Can take some time, need to find the right textures, with over 3000 loaded textures :P
(if you take that in consideration, nobody would want to use this program for cheating )
I'll begin testing right away

yup, crosshairs suck atm.
Also, more mouse sensitivity options are needed...I like mouse acc...
why were these options missed out?

here is a screenshot which shows i'm lot lying, this is a reduced resolution picture of a extracted texture of ut3 from the system memory http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/6296/teaserom2.th.png (http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=teaserom2.png)

fortunatly, making walls invisible won't be possible, i checked over 2400 loaded textures, only one or 2 alpha's , and none of which belongs to walls
I have some more good news, i identified the texture containing all the crosshairs, it's a 512x512 texture with a single tiny green streak, with an alpha containing all the crosshairs
EDIT: lol it exactly worked, here is a custom crosshair :D
this one is more clear, screenshot taken while picking up an item.
(sry for the large filesizes)

Nice one. Please release that software or do us just a plain dot with a black border or something so we can use that. :)

again, the software is not made by me, it's already available, freeware
the program needs to be used to start the game otherwise the mods won't appear
Currently working on a kind of tutorial on how to do certain things with this program
Hope to post it tomorrow in the evening.

A tutorial would be great I think. But do you mind just posting that link so that we can mess arround with it? Seems that it be "save" because you are doing a tutorial. :)

yeah the crosshairs are total arse in UT3. I'm used to playing with a small green dot with a black border. I just cant understand why there are no crosshair options in the game for size and type. It's just stupid!
