Hi Guys,

I got a problem with my UT3 Server. I installed it on my Server Computer in a Serverroom.

Server Hardware:

Sepron 3000ghz, 512MB Ram, Radeon 7200, WinXP;

After installing the game, i canīt run ther UT3.exe from my Server - it only shows up in the task manager for only 1 secound, then it quits.

anybody nows how i can run it correctly?

regards psychl

Sounds to me like you are just double-clicking on the ut3.exe file from Windows. This will not work. You must run the file from a command prompt, and include the necessary options as well.

Yes no i runed it correctly, i got this error in mei .logfile:

Seems like my graphikcard doesn`t work correctly, right? What can i do to make the server run?

I believe you need SM2 to run a server.

That requires a new graphics card.

11-24-2007, 05:46 PM
lol, i will never buy a new graphic card to run the server :(

all other servers run on this pc and ut3 needs shader models 2.0 :(

no other solutions?

The retail version has requirements for the graphics card. The dedicated server version does not. You should download and install the dedicated server release.

Do you have DirectX installed? DirectX is required, even to run a server.

not compatible with you system.

One of you INIs has a huge list of compatible hardware. If your hardware is not there, you're out of luck.

The server requires SM2.0 and that's it.
If you don't have it you can't run the server, there's no "workaround" except maybe to have some SM2.0 emulation like it was on Oldblivion.

the list of compatible hardware is for the retail game, in short: to play the game.

i really doubt a dedicated server needs sm2.0. that would mean that every server machine would have a sm2.0 card - and this isn't the case. did you ever saw serverfarms where the serveradmins cared about sm2.0 cards in their machines? lol we're talking about servers here, not desktop pcs.

i run a Server from the UT3 Demo and don't got a sm2.0 grafic card in my pc. This Card is a ATI Rage Pro 128.
I'll test the full released Version of UT3 Dedicated Server for Win in about 7hour and will tell you the results of my test.

yeah, thats exactly that which makes me unhappy. i only want to host a server; you cant pay a ut3 server if you need a graphic card >2.0 Sahder models lol. regards

i'd say that's not the case. do you guys really think providers of gameservers would have to put sm2.0 graphics cards into their servers in order to run a dedicated ut3 server? ;)
most server systems don't even have a dedicated graphics card (and therefore no sm2.0 at all)...

either the dedicated server package wasn't packed carefully or there's just a setting which causes this behaviour.

anything else would just make no sense. ;)

running 2 servers off a dell pc with just a onboard Intel video card.

yes but this cards have 2.0 Share Models, right?

I dont think so for the Intel video (not 100% sure on that though), my {hLk} duel 1v1 server is running on a old pIII 1.2ghz dell poweredge w/ATI Rage PCI video. Neither card is listed in the UTcompat.ini
