Under binaries/facefx/documentation there's a help file that can be opened by itself, the answer might be in there. But you're right, I don't see it in the editor. Maybe there's another command line option? There are also max and maya plugins in there, but I don't see the editor opening the produced file types...?

Thanks Caravaggio
I read through that help file but there is very little in it about the integration of FaceFX into UnrealEd.
I find it hard to believe that FaceFX is so hard to find in toolset …and the 20 hours plus of tutorials that came with the collector’s edition had nothing on it.
There has to be a unrealEd guru out there that can give us a few tips and point us in the right direction

What would you like to know?
It is relatively complex, so be sure you need it for whatever you are working on.
UDN3 has info on it and hopefully that will be public soon.

Ideally I want to use it for Lip-syncing to my own .wav files to create a cut scene to move the story along in a Single Player level.
I’ve used Face Poser by EMotion for Valve’s HL2 and its quite easy to use Point it to a Audio File match the spoken words in text format and hit the build button and poof you have an animation that you can use with any actor in HL2. With sliders you can add some other facial expressions and now you have a descent looking Lip-sync.
For starters I would like to just like to find the tool in UnrealEd the documentation says its incorporated into the editor is there a “F” key to open up the FaceFX window/ Do I need to have a FaceFX actor targeted, is it in a right click menu?

Highlight a Skeletal Mesh in the general browser. Right click on it. You can create a FaceFX asset. You can click on it to enter the editor much like you do with any other asset type. You can then right click on the FaceFX asset and import an FXA file if you've followed the FaceFX documentation and used one of the Max or Maya exporters.
That's about all I can help you with at the moment because I don't have a model ready to go yet to actually start using FaceFX, but the videos on the FaceFX website (http://www.oc3ent.com/home.html) should help you from there.

You mentioned the models would have to be made ready to be used in FaceFX, I know this was true for Impersonator (the previous version of FaceFX) and UT2004, but wouldn’t the models used to make all the cut scenes be already set up.
I realize they may not be as I don’t think there is any real time cut scenes or lip syncing going on in the game as Epic is cheating in that department and using Bik videos.
Epic you bunch of cut-scenes cheaters, what a let down, its like finding out your date to the prom stuffs her bra. Come on guys can’t this big bad UT3 engine run a cut scene in real time ……LOL

Yeah, I don't know why they don't have any FaceFX stuff available to use in the editor with their own characters. As for the pre-rendered scenes I don't really blame them, because once you start kicking up the Depth of Field and other post processing effects to make the scenes look pretty, you're gonna take a big performance hit on a lot of systems. Crysis is a pretty good example of that.

The option to create a new FaceFX asset is greyed out when I try
to access it that way. Looks like one has to have
a special prepared msesh file to access FaceFX. Nay idea what I could have done wrong?
Guess I have to get Gears of War which seem to have FaceFx files to edit in
it.
I have put up FaceFX video tutorials on youtube. I don't have the link handy but you can find them @ www.treadster.com
