View Full Version : Gears of War characters

If at all possible, it would be interesting(in my opinion) to have the Gears of War characters in the game. Think of it as a cameo appearance.

My request consists of somehow "transferring" the Gears of War multiplayer characters(Marcus, Dom, Cole, Kim, Baird, Carmine, Drone, Theron Guard, Grenadier and so on), and their voice sets, to UT3.

Thank you for your attention.

hmm I honestly think someone could do this if they just had Gears of War from the pc and transfer the files over then use em in UT3, just my thought though not fully sure if it'll work :)

It would be really neat, 2 new teams in UT3 :)

100% possible ;)

but i dont think that would make Epic very happy..

something u need to be careful about is taking models from other games and putting them into other games, even if still from the same dev team, its like downloading mp3s = illegal,.. but well in the end, people still do it, so im sure itll happen sooner or later

They've been advertising this game for a long time as "from the GoW devs", using its fame to increase the hype.

It's their own fault if someone makes such a mod. I want it because I want to hear Cole's cheesy taunts. Way better than "eff yeah"(for example), if you ask me...

Hm, not sure how possible it would be, not that I've looked into the modelling side too much, but they've got GoW locked down pretty tight compared to UT3.

-.-, the inexperienced :P

locked down..

in less than 5 mins i could go grab the model, port it into max, and put the model into a position and render it and post a pic up (no sexy poses though):D

If it is easy and possible to port Gears characters into UT3, would someone perhaps be willing to post a tutorial of how to do it? Of course, a complete file with ported chars would be preferable, but a tutorial would be a lot safer, as it doesn't involve redistributing copyrighted material...

We are in the Epic forums, I'm sure it couldn't be too difficult to attain a response of whether or not we the community are allowed to port Epics own models to another one of their games. If theres a problem with it then well just NOT  do it. My main point is that someone should just ask. I just have no idea who to specifically ask.

Well, if the devs have a problem with it a tutorial would be perfectly acceptable. I mean, if you own both GoW and UT3, then there really isn't much of a legal problem with switching over models. However, if they don't have a problem, it would be cool if someone posted a complete set of GoW models for UT3.
But yeah, I hope there is an official response to this question coming.

Yes, but releasing that said model out for public use is a completely different story. Which is the preferable solution to us all getting the Locust and Delta Squad into the Tournament. You know, one guy does all the porting and we enjoy the fruits of his labor. Of course it is only thanks to the devs that those models would even exist to begin with, but we want them because we are fans.

I just want to know whether we the fans would be allowed to port them over without consequence. I'm sure theres some copyright involved. So who do we need to ask to get our final answer.

Obviously there would be no point in buying GoW if you can already have the characters in UT3.

GoW is a totally different game. Having Gears characters in UT3 is no deterrent for buying Gears in the first place. It would be more like a bonus to those of us who purchased both.

That isn't true, I bought GoW pc because I really enjoyed the story and cooperative experience it brought. IMHO I think its perhaps one of the best co-op games I have ever played. Multiplayer was good as well. Its very different (The whole third person shooter multiplayer was a bit too much for me. Made me want to go FPS and destroy everyone as soon as I could.) in comparison to UT3, especially since its a duck and gun type of game. I would only like them in UT3 because I think they're well designed models and being a fan of GoW it brings me excitement to even consider having them in UT3.

Using the models from Bioshock would prove interesting as well, but they would probably look out of place. But they could be considered just your normal civilian characters fighting in the tourny, like how the original UT descriptions listed normal civvies or criminals for the tournaments.

Even more ridiculous would be to port the Plasmids into UT3 as well. "I don't need weapons to kick YOUR hiney." *TORCH*

But we should leave that to the modders to try and recreate those from scratch, if possible, like the Chaotic Dreams guys do for their Chaos UT mods. I just can't wait to get a hold of that grappling hook! No more falling to our deaths from high places!

The characters from Gears of War have an almost identical design to the ones in UT3. As soon as I even heard that GoW was being released on the PC I figured someone would port it over within the first few months of UT3s release. (I still think it'll happen..soon.)

Off topic: Yeah I figured the Big Daddies would be the coolest to port over, but they'd be too large to fit in properly in UT3. If its rescaled its not a Big Daddy! a Plasmid mutator would be very very interesting.

How about Gears of Wars enemies for a new Invasion Gametype?

Gotta remember to put the /sarcasm man. It isn't as easy to detect sarcasm on the interweb.

I agree. No sarcasm there, either.

I suppose it would be cool ... just to increase the roster count because for us offlline players especially there are just not enough bots to really have fun like before. You end up killing the same bots over and over and over. So yeah the more models the better. Heck at this point the more content period the better. It would be cool to play as Cole I have to say. That would be tons of fun actually.

Frankly I can't count the number of time I've heard Marcus's voice in my head say "Now I'm PISSED!" after eating a rocket. Porting over the models/sounds would seem like a natural fit to me. I wouldn't even be surprised if EPIC saw fit to include a couple of the characters, and perhaps some Skarjj in one of their traditional bonus packs later on.

And as far as legality...well I've got a crap load of Halo models running around getting shot in my UT2004, and if Microsoft didn't sue the hell out of everybody then I doubt EPIC would make a federal case out of it now...
