I don't know epic, but UT2004 ran extremely nice behind Nat routers ect. But with UT3 it seems that the dedicated server portion was taken into consideration at all. Whats the deal?

Is this going to be fixed? and when? Ive spent countless hours trying to get this crap up on the net and no luck what so ever. Port forwarding doesnt do anything, as it worked perfectly in UT2004. Or is there some kind of setting that has to be done in order for this to work? Right now we host 2 Crysis boxes, 2 F.E.A.R boxes ,3 Css and 2 TF2 boxes no problems what so ever on a XPS Pent Duo 2 quad core 8GB DDR2 2x 500GB SATA II on 8MB down/2MB UP DSL connection. Were looking to eliminate the Css boxes since its already boring and adding a UT3 Box instead. Oh BTW we all have retail versions of UT3 collectors edition not the demo. I would really appreciate it any feedback.

And i Thank You for your time.

Trust me.... I feel your pain!! I have the same issues. I have 2 box's 1 Halo and 1 BF2142 and have no probs with them setting up behind a router.

I sure hope this gets resolved soon. Ill be damned if i have to rent a server just for this game. Which will not happen. Where we will just stick to Crysis which honestly kicks-Ass hands down. Just a shame that this wasnt put into the sys requirements or something before wasting money on it.

OMG - You mean to tell me that no one has an answer or a solution to this Thread?

And to think that many other people like us spend money on games like this only to be left disappointed and clueless as to why functionality isn't there...

I guess i should get a group of programs and 3d artist and modelers together and make a game. Heck! why not... everyone is doing it.. Then we'll create so much hype, that it will have every gamer killing just to have it. And when they finally get it. We will make away with there money and kill all contact with every user who's purchased the game......

You see that's what i feel is going on with epic right now. I mean if there busy making a fix or patch for this. Then let one at least know that it's being resolved. Because this is very discouraging for future purchases. And really the MP portion of the game is the main reason gamers buy this game because the SP so called campaign mode is nothing more than playing a regular skirmish with movie cuts. Come one it could of had more of a mission based feel to it.

Anyway going back to the original post can someone shed some light on the dedicated server not showing up in the browser for users behind NAt or routers, please....

again...
I thank You for your time

I read that it needs to be ports 6500, 7777 & 13000 UDP. Try that?

You should not go off like this because you can't get something to work, dude.

I am sure you have tried basic networking troubleshooting... first step is putting that 2003 server in a dmz zone, to see if the port redirection/routing is the culprit or not. After that, take it off the dmz and open TCP and UDP ports, don't use exe triggers. Get a port scanner to see if you can get in and out of them ports. Close traffic from there... I assume at this time, everything is trial and error, the way it's ALWAYS been with modding, server admin and brand new games. Getting stuff to work right is half the fun.

If you can't still get it to work, get the new patch.

Also... I learned from here that if you add mutators, your server will not be listed under "pure" anymore.

We own a dual athlon box hosted on a colocate in Indiana (I am in Florida) and I had no issues whatsoever installing and running my UT3 servers...

I dont work for Epic, and I dont speak for Epic. But in case you havent noticed, I also dont donate my time to respond to people who say "this sucks" and thats it. So, if you want help then ask for it, and I'll do my best to help. But dont b!tch about Epic not doing their job, because they were working on your problems while most of us were eating turkey yesterday.

This is a forum for server admins to freely exchange information, not for whiny b!tches to vent their gripes. If that is more your style then go elsewhere, or don't be surprised if you don't get a reply.

And yes, I know that I shouldn't have said that - even before I click the Submit button. Its the Sam Adams talking, and I apologize. Its just that we need to act as a community, and the last people we should be chastising are the people that bust their a$$es evenings, holidays, and weekends to give us A GAME. You do know its just A GAME, right? Lighten up.

Well dub to be honest im gonna side with the wh!ney b!tches. I understand that everything like this has its bugs but i have a now 6 page topic goin on almost the same issue, and i dont expect epic to fix it immediatly or anything unrealistic but a simple "ok guys we are working on it" would be great but instead they dont say anything to anybody and let it go like we are doin something wrong. I have sent email, posted topics everywhere and even tried to call em just because i would like to know that someone is addressing this issue. So i understand all the frustration goin on in this forum right now and i think epic or whoever is and has handled these bugs and issues very poorly. BTW pork here is a link to the topic i started on the same issue. Our problems are a slight bit different but i think whatever the issue is its the cause of both of our problems.

Hey Dubious, do you know if anyone that has the Beta had the exact same problems Villain and I are facing? Shows up in browser but tries to connect via the local nic rather than the multihomed nic?

I'd like to know if they can verify that the patch does indeed fix this.

I'd LOVE to get ahold of the beta so I could verify this. :(

Servers do not currently show correctly behind NAT. Wait for a publicly released patch. Beta testing is in progress by GSP's and experienced server admins. Expect a working patch to be released soon.

So i retract my previous statement lol it is fixed with the beta patch. But both the client and the server have to be patched and my server is still showing in the wrong browser list but we are getting somewhere!! I sent u the link scary.

LMAO maybe WarTourist should post an announcement post that reads:

"Any problem you may have on a 3 day old , just released game that we are all trying to work out, the answer is

WE ARE WORKING ON IT. STOP WHINING AND PLAY.

Thank you"

and then link every single whine thread to it.

In any case, the beta patch is working miracles... tick rates are down for idle servers, and my bot team mates stopped shooting me when I carjacked a vehicle... my test server on my home server is showinf through my router, life is great :D Thank you Epic and keep up the good work...

1) This is for your help(first post)
~{MFD}~Mordred thank you for the info but i already tried that and nothing... That was my first troubleshoot. But thank you anyway

2)This is for the rude remark(second post)
~{MFD}~Mordred well judging by how nicely you kiss A$$ that mustache is coming along so well :) And yes im going to bittchh..... and you know why???? because i could... as well countless others that bought the freakinn game... so don't go on an epic suck up telling me that im bit-ching. If it werent for us the gamer the end user who are supporting them and there families by purchasing there game, there wouldnt be an epic. So again you have the audacity of tell me not to bittchh.... Please!!!!

3) This is just a question :)

So one question, i was told that these were the ports needed:
Now is this correcT?
UDP- 27900
UDP- 7777
UDP- 6500

or this?

UDP- 7777
UDP- 7778
UDP- 7787
UDP- 27900
UDP- 28902
UDP- 6500
Now im confused. But for argument sake, because even in DMZ mode it does nothing.

BTW I don't come to a forum to GRIPE, believe me id rather be playing, and about gripes an Bittchinnnn don't get help, well im gripping because if you noticed i was asking for help regarding the issue, but got no answer, so you know what a Bitcchhed. (Sorry for the misspelled words have to do it or they get filtered out, i do know how to spell just in case)

Oh and where can i find this new beta patch?

Thank you to all of you who tried helping, I solute ...

~{MFD}~Mordred
11-24-2007, 05:34 PM
this just proves my point, dude.

Get the patch when it comes out of beta. It will solve your issues. If you absolutely positively MUST have the beta patch, i am sure a google search can tell you what the changelog is and where to get it.

If your server does not show in DMZ mode, you may have some bigger issues than your router, mainly your server config.

I was not trying to be rude, but it gets old how people attack the game and its creators because they can't figure it out.

O.k. this is very weird, i tried DMZ on just the game server and it appeared on the browser but, it messes up the webserver and i cant view the website. So this means that there is a port that isnt being put in. All i have are:

UDP- 7777
UDP- 7778
UDP- 7787
UDP- 27900
UDP- 28902
UDP- 6500
UDP- 13000
I even installed the Beta Patch 1.0.1, i wish the "ServeBehindNat=True" function worked on UT3. or does it?
am i missing something???

I'm also having the same problem, put it in DMZ still nothing, all ports forwarded. I've spent ages trying to sort this and then I happened to look in kaspersky antivirus (when i have been testing this I have disabled this to no success). I noticed that all ports used by the server are using my external ip (it shows up as 0.0.0.0 on it just like it does with the 6 other ut2004 server I run) however, port 6500 is using my internal ip. After reading here I now know this is a query port. I believe this is what is stopping my server working and maybe the servers of others. Is there any way to stop this port doing that, I have tried to find an option for it but with no luck. I have also got the beta 101 patch installed.

DMZ opens up all ports to that IP. Your web server had to be running on another IP if you got a problem with it.

for example, let's say:
192.168.1.100 is your LOCAL IP for UT3.
192.168.1.101 is your web server

if you have 192.168.1.101 on DMZ, you will be able to get to your web server but your game needs the prots OPENED to it. If you put 192.168.1.100 on DMZ, your game will show but you need to open the ports for the website so others can see it.

Also rememver, a SERVER serves information. People connect to it. Remember that sometimes you have to open the ports both ways (TCP and UDP). Have you tried that?

Also of you have any software anti virus or anti spyware, you might want to momentarily disable it...

and the patch works.

Got the same problem with same story.

Tried the 101 beta patch.

Opened these ports:
UDP- 7777
UDP- 7778
UDP- 7787
UPD- 27000
UDP- 27900
UDP- 28902
UDP- 6500
UDP- 13000

And I tried TCP on all of them aswell.

All other games like battlefield, cod4, css what ever does work fine just not this game.
I dont got any other software that blocks it.

So any other suggestion would be awsome.

I find it odd that I can connect to my server with "open 85.13.219.108:7777" but not see it on the server master.
So the issue must be the server master not the server?

I've hosted allot of games, and this is the only one (except cod4 that took 24 hours before it was visbile on master server list) that does not work there.
Like even the crappy game stalker works!

There is a known bug that will knock your server off of the master server list if you connect to the server by opening a console and using 'open 123.123.123.123' to connect. The workaround is not to use this method to connect to your server.

wondering what a packet sniffer might show on ur communication w/gamespy. I have a hunch a lot of people's servers might not be communicating properly or be authenticated with gamyspy.

see related thread on my clans forums on using wireshark for this specific purpose. I have used a gamespyid created from within and out of the ut3 client have had issues both ways, but caught them with wireshark analysis. I have found even with a purposly screwed up gamyspyid / pwd, that there is no indication from within the ut3 server or log that shows this. I had a gamespyid / pwd that i created within the ut3 client game, but it kept reporting back (as found through wireshark) that my uniqueid was invalid. However the server would launch and be joinable via ip directly, and gave me no indication it was not being authenticated properly.

http://www.hlkclan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2176

might not be ur issue, but could be worth a peek.

Hello, I have been reading these forums since the release of UT3, and have my dedicated running without too many issues. My server always showed up on the master browser, I could always connect, and was using the multihome switch. I am now running the beta patch, everything still runs good, I am not using the multihome switch. I can still connect from the master browser but others cannot. I see them connect, then the connection gets closed. Any help would be appreciated.

You can port scan the server if you have the proper software like so:

dissolved ~ # nmap -sU -p6000-14000 66.230.xxx.xxx

Starting Nmap 4.20 ( http://insecure.org ) at 2007-11-27 13:23 EST
Interesting ports on 66.230.xxx.xxx:
Not shown: 7998 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
6500/udp open|filtered unknown
7777/udp open unknown
13000/udp open|filtered unknown

Nmap finished: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 3.497 seconds
If you question was 'How do I see which ports UT3 is listening on?' then you would need access to the PC and either use netstat ('netstat -a -n -b > ports.txt') or use software such as Processexplorer to see which ports UT3.exe is binding to.

Well , I just got mine to show up in the browser. WOOOOOT Apparently it was MY fault . I created a new unique login on the server but I didnt do it on my end , so I started up UT3 went in and created a new profile , used the same I put on the server . It took , logged out , logged in with my player nick and what do you know , my server was on the browser. DAM I'm so happy , been working on this for 4 days.
