View Full Version : Mouse pointer disappearing in UnrealEd3

Several times now my mouse pointer has simply vanished while I was working in UnrealEd3. It happened on two occasions when I double-clicked a Light actor to view its properties, rather than hitting F4. It's possible that other occurrences of the bug also involved double clicking things, although I don't remember.

When it happens, the mouse stops rendering anywhere in the UnrealEd3 window. If I hit the Windows key and click the taskbar, or otherwise navigate the mouse away from the UnrealEd3 window, the pointer reappears. I'm unable to get it back into UnrealEd3 however, so each time this happens I'm forced to use keyboard shortcuts to save my map, then exit and restart the editor.

I recall from my time using UnrealEd2 (and in eons past, Duke Nukem 3d's "Build" editor) that annoying bugs are pretty common in mapping tools. Has anyone else run into this? Maybe Epic can fix it in a future patch if it's a common problem.

Ya I have the same problem. I will have to start using the F4 key instead ^^

Everytime that happens to me I just right/left click a few times in the 3d window. Then somehow it re-appears..
Try to navigate through your level and then do the steps above.

I never had to shut down the editor for that. It now happened 10 times in 1 hour or so.

Now that I've read it, it happens. I just clicked out into space, then clicked something else and hit F4.

Quite possibly the mouse is dropping into viewport navigation mode where the cursor is hidden.
I've been working with various UE3 builds for almost two years now and I have also ran into the mouse popping up a context menu and messing up when I simply click in the Perspective viewport. Multiple re-clicks usually slap it out of its stuck state.
Early versions of UE2's editor also had a few quirks and didn't become more stable until UE2.5, so I would expect UnrealEd to get better after the first patch or two.

I run into this error a lot. What fixed it for me was not double clicking on objects. Rather right click and pull up the menu if you want to get into its properties. Or if it does disappear if you click in one of the ortho views or the 3rd view and deselect the current object it usually brings it back... for me that is.

This is a known issue and I would assume should be fixed on the next patch.

I found it happens when a window opens over the cursor.

So try to keep the browser and properties window on the right of the screen so when you double click something in the perspective view they don't open over the cursor.
