--Installation--
Unpack in your documents folder and it should extract the files at the right place.

Note: About the map ownership issue, someone in my clan is from AO and the one who made the original map is MIA, no way to contact him. Anyway its been like 4 years and there have been dozen of remakes already.

dude, grats on the attemt, but it can look better. judging from the srcreenshot some texture work needs to be done, at the very least.

put some effort into the box's the texturing, the cone looks ut99ish. we want the same play style with new gfx

dude, you don't know what you're talking about. Those are ALL new gfx, stock textures, exept the hay and I worked it with a bump map. It can't look better than that without breaking the authenticity of the map and the cone has as many polys it can have unless you want some crappy fps

dude, you obviously dont fully understand how the new lighting system works when it comes to bump mapping, also the texture scale is all messed up. At least attempt to make it look more natural for the new engine. im not complaing about the layout obviously. But the texturing and lighting job you did needs to go back to drawing board

and why the hell is the map 13 megs, does it have inlayed music?

you didnt do the dx5 compression on the textures did you when you inported them.

my suggestion is to take this to beta for 2 or 3 days at the least . Even my sky arena i had to redo twice, once to fix static mesh lod issue and the second time to adjust for the new lighting system for framerate issues.

if you need help on the lighting system lemme know

Dude make a map before criticizing, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. I made the lighning plain on purpose to make it old school and I used as much the game gave me, i'm not gonna draw my texture while the game has them and if you knew just a bit about the new engine you would know that this map size is normal for a map like this with a few custom textures and smeshes

get lost stop making pointless comments about stuff you don't know, I did not intend to make this a piece of art, this is BarnBurner just quick fun

Go make a better BarnBurner then i'll accept your critics

uhhh dude, how bout you check the full release section before telling me to make a map, cus if you looked i already have a map there and it was the first one up. With a far better lighting system.

How bout you check up on all the maps i did for 2k4 for IG playstyle and we will see

Your map is point blank, badly lightmapped, old ut2kx textures. Bad Texture sizing, The size of the map is fine sure but rather then listen to sound advice you react as if im attacking you personally when in truth im trying to tell you where your going wrong and what you need to do to fix it.

Dont make me break out the editor and litirally quote your mistakes. Take the advice and rework it a bit more.

The screenshot doesn't do the map justice. It's a very nice looking map within the game. There are no lighting problems and the textures look fine. I'd suggest actually trying the map before passing judgment.

no the lightmap is old style engine, just checked it in editor, here try this, take one light set it from its current 0.5and rasie it and watch bump mapping actually work. remember more smaller lights gives better effect then a few large ones

Dude trust me take it back to the drawing board it can look better you just have to spend another day or so

Ha, don't try to teach me on mapping dude I've been using unreal engine since UT99, I've got lots of good looking maps in 2k4 and you're arguments have no weight, i'm sure you can find some mistakes if you look but I don't care this is a 1 day map, i'm not going to awnser to you again bye

I shouldn't say it, but the idea of one box-map mapper arguing with another box-map mapper kind of makes me giggle.

And no, I've never released a map in my life. :)

I would also recommend another version with new lighting unless you want to move onto something else. Put some spot lights right under the meshes for the hanging lights you have, then around the floor area underneath them put a few lights at a fraction of the intensity with maybe a slightly brownish color to act as the light that bounces back up to the ceiling. Right now it doesn't look like the light is coming from anywhere in particular. I might download when I get the game, but the meshes could definitely use some variety. If it's a real barn, more doors? Maybe a few vertical pillars, hay, pitchforks. That kind of thing.

Keep going.

OK I did a quick fix to improve lightning, I agree it was not very good. My log shows only about 10 downloads so these people please re-download this. I'm sorry I rushed this because I wanted people to have a quick custom map. Not gonna happen again.

good on you for making a map man, but you have to learn to take some criticism, the map is a tad on the bland side, even if you want to keep it similar gameplay wise to the original how about some non-obstructive windows/skylights and roof details or that kinda thing?

QFT. Nobody cares how long you've been mapping or how many good maps you've released for other games, you could still be a sucky mapper. So learn to take the criticism you get for maps instead of complaining that you didn't get any (or too little) praise. Thanks :)

No offense to you or anything, but those box textures look hideous, as well as the hay...The original BB looks better than that..Take a bit more time making it look good. People will stop playing a shabby, quick made map a lot sooner than a remake that took a few days/weeks to make.

Rule #1 while downloading a map - a map with something like "1337" in it's name most likely dosn't worth it (seen one exclusion though - but definitely not this time). Those who watched "The Editor Has You" MSUC movie know what I thought ;)

Its already been said about the BB release so not much point in me jumping in other then to say good maps take time to make and should never be rushed.

I will say though how exactly do you expect people to get this map with no working redirect in UT3? Sure they can download it off some site but the number of peeps that actually get it and play on the server are going to be pretty minimal. However dont let this discourage anyone from making maps, in fact use this time to put more time, effort and detail in those maps to produce a truely awesome map.

Map had a issues with mesh Lod that I had to fix

For the others, I just wanted a good map out there for people like us who prefer fun open maps to stock maps, I don't expect you to play this on regular settings with no mutators, I don't care if its not as visually good as it could be as long as it fits the gameplay of my server

I can and will make maps with awesome visuals but this one is not one of them

Great Job! I wanted to note that "karmatized" made over 20 of the best maps I ever played in 2k3/4!! for the GU clan!!

I have to say that the reason I got UT3 was for the enhanced graphics of the game.

I think that if you are going to recreate a map in a new engine then you should make use of all the capabilities the new engine has to offer.
A day or 2 to make a map for UT3 means that you are either a very skilled map maker or you just do not care what people think about your work.

I spent 3 months working on VCTF-DR-Huge (http://utforums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?p=25124088#post25124088) before releasing it for UT2K4, I also went to some freinds and got their help with cosmetics before the final release. Also there was over a year in verious Beta versions.

I am working on a UT3 version now and do not expect it to be in first beta for a few months yet.

Take your time when you make a map, treat the people you are making the map for with the respect you want to recieve.

I looked at your map and found it to be a shell waiting for the real work to begin.

If you are worried about fps hits on a map this small then you need to upgrade your machine. You have fewer pollies in your entire map than you will find in a single character or vehicle, push your limits.

I really do not like to be negitive about another persons work.

This is close to the original name of the map. This is a map mainly for the low grav ig community. This maps was played over 100,000+ times in UT2004. God only knows how many more in UT99/UT2003. There will prob be 25 different versions during the UT3 life spam. I care more about fun than eye candy. I am willing to bet twist's map is on every lg ig server already. Give the guy a break instead of dogging his work. I know some are doing constructive criticism, but other ppl should be thrown under neither the short bus.

Very simple; If you never played the original barnyard for UT99, don't make criticisms; this map followed the original plain design. Also like [EX3]Cobra_XP said; this map is intended for the low-grav communities.

Great map, it follows the original quiet nicely; can't wait to find a server with this in its rotation, thanks.

wow! dling crazybump and gonna check that out!!! this is the most useful post in this thread.

As far as this map goes... This looks like it should be in the beta section of the UTK4 forums. There isnt much to it, and the textures are tiled horribly on the walls. Regardless of if they have nice shiny bump maps/normal maps/ whatever maps, the tiling is just... ick. I'm by no means a mapping expert, but if you've been mapping since ut99, you should understand the importance of texture scaling.

Aaaaahhhh, I remember playing this map on CTF4 (4 team CTF). The version I played had a lake in the center and the flag areas were behind barricades. When playing against higher level bots, this map is surprisingly hard... good team work is a must!

This version, admittedly, plays ok, but looks really, really bad. Twist99, I hope you can update the graphics (floor is missing and the crates and hay stacks look pre Doom 1 era).

Please, don't be discouraged, because I enjoy playing this map. I hope you will update this map a bit.

wolverine knows a fair bit of the maps history, think someone he knew did the orig? or u could try www.mapraider.com they have a very comprehensive collection for 2k3/2k4 or try the UT2k3/2k4 part of this website.(epic game forums) dont know personally but if u search on those two chances are ull find it :)
[EDIT] Hmm checked both myself and only came up with an atari looking convert on mapraider :/ other sites you could try are www.beyondunreal.com and www.unrealplayground.com best of luck and hope someone else can help more :/
