I want to create a derivative of one of the existing materials in the game.

It appears that you can't duplicate materials in packages that are cooked nor copy expressions from inside the editor.

This material has something around 130 instructions, so redoing them by hand would be extremely tedious.

Is there some way to 'uncook' the package or export the material so it can be edited?

Edit: seems you actually can copy expressions, but I'd still be interested if it can be exported.

I think that part of the reason for 'cooked' packages is to make them read-only to everyone in order to make it more difficult for others to modify such things without the authors' permission.

No, it's because some cooked things can't be moved or copied without crashing the editor, because some data has been stripped out. There's a way to get to it, I'll post it in a bit.
