as you can see its only a grey background no grid lines and grid is enabled in viewports :s
my card is ATI Radeon 700x Pro.
and this was working fine on roboblitz so must be a bug in the editor and not the card.

Then, try to enable it in menu 'toggle show flags'. It is located in the right corner of every viewport (black triangle)

Hm - I don't have UT3 jet but shouldn't the viewports background color be white? On your picture its gray. The same gray grid should be - so i guess the grid is there but you cannot see it because its the same color as background.
Probably its a graphic card or gamma issue.
Just in case - try to find if there is something like "toggle default flags" in a flags drop down (not sure if UT3 has that option though, but just in case it has).

I have used the UE3 editor on an X800 card with no issues (you mentioned X700, same series).
Has it always been like this?
Have you tried deleting/renaming the engine and editor ini files to see if it fixes it?

try checking in one of the ini files in my games\ut3\config. I went through to see if there was an option to fix the problem i had and saw something like ShowGrid=True, perhaps yours got set to false.
EDIT:
Just checked, its in UTEditorUserSettings.ini (My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\Config), near the bottom is a value called bShowGrid.
[UnrealEd.MaterialEditorOptions]
bShowGrid=True

I have the same problem. I use an ATI Radeon x850, but have not had this problem in previous versions of UnrealEd.
I have set "bshowgrid" to "true" in both instances in the UTEditor.ini as well as "mViewDrawGrid=true" just incase. I even went so far as to change UTEditor.ini to read-only, since UT3 has a nasty tendency to reset settings.
"Grid" is checked under my visible flags options, and I've zoomed in and out to a point where the grid would be visible if it were enabled.
I also get the Shader Model 2.0 error when starting UEd, but don't have any ingame problems like this.
I've seriously tried all I can think of, but to no avail. Can anyone else help?
Hmm the only thing that comes to mind is turning off your aa on your graphixs card.
If i remember right ut ed hated it.

Thx to try to help us T@f !
I have a question :
-How I can find the "advanced options" in the editor ?
In ut2k4 Ed, it was on "view->advanced options", in this one, I don't see it...
I want to find where I can set the grid color, or maybe the brightness in the editor.
Thx in advance !

What kind of Geometry are you running? Additive or Subtractive?

In the two cases, add or substract, no grid...
Thx to try to help us T@f !

Yep i`v been having trouble finding that as well.
The closest one to it is view/world properties.
Epic has hide this one pretty good :(
You could allways look in the uteditor.ini see if theres anything in there that might help.

Got the precise same problem here;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v108/BigJim/NoGridOMG.jpg
Running an x700.
I also get the "shader model 2" message on startup, but then again, I get the same message from the GoW editor too, and Robolitz, and they work fine, do it can't be the card refusing to play along with the engine... :/
It's been like this from the very first time I ran the editor - I know there's a menu option to toggle on/off the grid in the viewports, but o/c I do have it turned on.
I can't even begin to start learning the new editor until this is working correctly. :(

You will need a newer video card.
The game supports SM2 but the editor requires a higher system for a few reasons.
I strongly recommend at least an SM3 card for doing any editing.

ya my son has the same problem with no grid showing on his ATI X850 Pro card. Luckily though we have a couple other machines with 8800's so he can map on one of them for now.
I have the same problem with a ATI 9800 PRO card. I also see the shader model 2 error when I start the editor. :'(

Same problem here x800. Tried the newest ATI drivers but it isn't fixed. Anyone using alternative drivers (omega)?
Iirc, we had the same problem (no grid lines) in 2k3 or 2k4. They fixed it with a patch or a driver update. So lets hope.
