View Full Version : Bug: Screen Flickering

I've played through the campaign without really bad problems. The only thing I had was sound stuttering when the mission description came up. But the game itself ran fine, even if I was playing 4 hours continously. Now that I went online I experienced some screen flickering.

I only tried warfare online till now and I had it on different maps. It's like building and some parts of the landscape disappear for a short moment and then come back (Enemy players and vehicles disappear, too). It's about the same speed as the linkgun fires. It often starts when someone is firing with link gun, stinger or the viper near me, or if I do so. It takes a few maps until I have this problem but I had it three times now.

I heard of someone else also having this problem anfter a few maps. I even updated to the newest Nvidia drivers but the problem is still present.

My System:
OS: Windows Vista 32Bit
RAM: 2GiB
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MiB)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Mouse: Razer Deathadder

Next time I will try closing XFIRE before starting the game in case that one should be the problem. I will keep you updated. Just wanted to know if that is a known bug already.

I didn't have sound stuttering in the movies, just during the description with text.

i have the same problem.

after playing a few warfare maps, everything (vehicles, enemys, nodes landscape ...) on the map starts to flicker. i didnt noticed that problem on other gametypes so i guess this is (for me) a -warfare only- problem. im forced to restart ut3 to 'fix' that, but it starts again after playing a while ... :(

next time ill do some screens ...

all drivers on my machine are up 2 date!
(windows vista 32bit, 2gb, 2x nvidia geforce 8600 gts (sli),core 2 duo 6600 @ 2.4 ghz)

update your Direct X, and revert back from the latest drivers.

169.09 are bugged, 169.12 are ok i think.

Doesn't work. Floodgate REALLY screws it up. Completely unplayable. However there is a file i can't see to get off the 169.09 drivers. nvwgf2um.dll :/ not a clue here. New computer tomorrow so meh :P

I found new Beta drivers (169.12) from NVIDIA today, they are only 2 days old. Installed them and will try whether they change anything about this issue or not. Closing Xfire didn't help and I also had it offline vs. bots now, so nothing concerning online playing only here.

I have this as well - I'll keep checking this thread.

Perhaps some setting in the .ini files has been changed (a new default value) that could be causing this?

Random everything (except bsp's, oddly enough) flickering so quickly I can see players on the other side of the map at times, all the way through buildings. It seems to only happen in warfare mode or outdoor maps (i can't figure out which it is, but the times it's happened it's been both of those.

My ini hasn't been changed, so that can't be the problem. It also is only happening on official maps - i've been screwing with UE3 for some time now and never had this issue on any maps I've made myself.

My assumption is that it's a video card thing. It happens in or out of SLI, with 3 different version of the video driver from nVidia. Really would like to get this resolved, as it makes the game unplayable.

The new beta drivers are crap :-)
I do not only have the screen flickering with it but also some freezes up to 30 seconds. This ain't great when carrying the orb and you will find yourself on the other end of a map while your team is loosing the primary node already ;-)
I switched back to the latest official one (163.75).
I am gonna try something else now.

Screen Flickering here as well on a Geforce 8800gts640. Can't believe the game was tested by NVidia and this bug is still inside the game. - You can try and "alt-tab" in and out. Then it's gone for some minutes... at least sometimes.

There is more support on this issue in another thread: http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=586470
I am going to continue there.
