Hi.
I'm not a tech expert, but I've had very bad experience with nvidia, and would like to stop giving them my money.
What is the best way to go? I'd like very much to see UT3 "as it was meant to be seen" (with AA, etc), but I'd like to do it w/o nvidia. And hopefully without having to be a rocket scientist.
Suggestions requested. I'm sure there's others besides myself who'd like to know.

well ati are releasing some new cards (the 3000 series) and i hear those will support directx 10.1, and they're not very pricey cards(the HD3850 will be around £75/$150) so i would recommend waiting for them

Just look at the newest benchmarks;

LOL @ all these video card fanbois.
Seriously, you aren't hurting Nvidia's feelings by not giving them your money. They just had the most profitable quarter in their company's history. And there's a good reason for it....they make the best freaking video cards out there in terms of performance. It comes at a price of course, but that's what allows ATI to sell at a discount and still provide value and good competition at lower price points.
I root for both ATI and NV....because if both of them do well and put out great products, the biggest winners are the consumers, who get great cards and competitive prices.

i'm not an ATI fanboy, I just would rather stick to them because they're what i've always had and i haven't had any trouble with them, i'm just being careful.
and R.Flagg said hes had a bad experience with nvidia so its only logical that he would want to try something else
so calm down, have a cookie and think before you post

Newegg has already sold out of the 3870 cards at $210, but still has the 3850 at $160. These will go the same as the 8800GT. It may be several months before the 8800GT and 3870 are widely available.

i had a MSI Radeon X1300Pro 256mb before, and then i decided to upgrade to an Asus Radeon X1600Pro 512mb and i had problem with it, twice (sent the card to asus for replacement, and this replacement had problem too, some like is ugly freak-ass blink containing vertical colored lines whenever the DirectX loads for a game or something), asked them to send me a Geforce 7600GT Silent 256mb instead. well this one have a tiny problem, but i guess i can bear with it since it's not a big-ass major problem like those vertical bars.

10.1 won't have any real updates that current dx10 cards can't run....>_>
But I would go with the HD3 series, or wait for the 88GT 256 to come out.

since Vista is so crappy...is there a way to make DirectX10 work in XP? i wonder if Microsoft will make DirectX10 for WinXP soon...
i mean...geez, Vista doubles the system requirement for a game! if it takes 1gb RAM on XP, it takes 2gb in Vista! Anyway, i'm sticking with WinXP SP2 for now.

anyway, i don't like Vista, so even if i use a 8000 series video card, it won't use DirectX10

New ATI cards are alright, but the 8800GTXs still eat them even after being out nearly a year. :/
