hi,

i've found a trick to avoid hitches in ut3. work also with the beta.

do following:
1. install the catalyst driver 7.10
2. set "catalyst ai" to advanced
3. rename the exe to Bioshock.exe
4. maybe, set "DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False"

thats' all

here some flyby result, with original exename(UT3.exe), many framedrops:
avg FPS: 52.31
0-5: 1.16
5-10: 2.34
10-15: 3.22

avg FPS: 52.84
0-5: 0.39
5-10: 2.65
10-15: 2.82

and here some flyby results with renamed exe(Bioshock.exe)
avg FPS: 59.08
0-5: 0.00
5-10: 0.18
10-15: 0.25

avg FPS: 59.87
0-5: 0.00
5-10: 0.00
10-15: 0.16

Another trick to try:

DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False

in the UTengine.ini. I know it works for some older generation ATI cards but maybe it will help here, too.

DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=True

This setting appears to be an ATI-specific troubleshooting option, and should only be set to False if you are having issues.As for renaming the UT3 into Bioshock.exe hmm I guess it improve fps because when you rename it, the Catalyst AI detect a game in the "driver database" and put the optimisations. UT3 wasn't out when Catalyst 7.10 came out so obviously no AI optimisation for that game. Nice find, until 7.11 are out :rolleyes:

Edit: I confirm, by renaming it and having Catalyst AI set to Advanced, I get an average of +3fps in a VCTF Flyby benchmark as seen by the 2 first results on top.
