I think you don't have to worry, someone has already decided to make a comp-mod.

I really don't see why brightskins would be needed this time...players already glow a sicky birght red or blue at more than 10 feet...even the vehicles, pah! Still i quite like the coloured names and little 'whos using what weapon' icons of utcomp.

UTcomp without brightskins this time, might be better... :D
Make sure you can wear custom names in the server using the setname command, but this time let UTcomp pick up this command.

UTComp NEEDS brightskins. It's nearly impossible to see player models when they're far away with the addition of bloom which makes it even harder.

But, yes please work hard on the mod to fix the errors of UT3! and hopefully UT3 will become a really great competitive 1v1 dm game. :D

To concentrate this effort, LDS-555 over on unrealna has been getting geared up for this. I believe (if I am not mistaken) that Lotus has stepped down from this task. If you want to see what will be in the comp mod, check over there.

Hope they get the input from the top tier this time so it doesn't turn into the joke 2k4 utcomp was. A comp mod should only handle the administration around comp games and control game relevant settings like pickups, score system etc. A noob mod that once again tries to "fix teh game" would be sad.

Just give me hitsounds and I'm good. Glow stick skins suck.

So far it is pretty much:

warmup
advanced score stuff
crosshairs

Very basic, normal things.

No brights, hitsounds (they honestly are not needed from what we can tell so far) or gameplay issues are slated to be changed . Although a prou thread has suggested an 'eye height' fix. That will need to be voted on imo, and only after hard evidence that it will not affect gameplay.

Weapon Throw may need to be implemented though, as it has always been a TDM staple.

This has been discussed (especially since there are Colorblind players!) Plus it would be nice to have changeable skin color imo.

Nice, this will get the tripods approval and support. :)

I don't get why people always diss on brightskins when they know they can turn it off completely.

Anyways, hopefully unrealNA delivers.

It goes back to that by turning it off in a match, you automatically put yourself at a disadvantage. Even if an individual doesn't like them, they'd most likely end up using them because it is an immediate disadvantage.

Fortunately, many people are in agreement that this is not a necessary element (unless further testing proves otherwise), and neither are hitsounds. The visual and auditory feedback are very good in this game. And even though some folks don't like the 'flash to red' on the x-hair, for all practical purposes it is basically the equivalent of a visual hitsound (although this hasn't been working properly yet, hence the complaints).

In the history of the game there were problems that brightskins solved. The example given to me was in the earliest rendition of Curse, the bricks were a red color, and as such the teams would always squabble as to who was the red team because it was an immediate advantage. Same thing with Deck, where the sky area was a gray and so when the blue team would control the upper area it was even that much more of an advantage. This is kind of the reason that it appears (and I think many people are hoping it will stay this way) that brights will not be necessary. This could however change if it is discovered that across all the maps the skins are not performing as we have seen in the beta-demo. This question should be solidified very soon though, along with many others.

Also, there may be a need for a Throw Weapon addition. The issue has been solved for TDM because it was discovered with the WS off mutator, that the TW command can be bound in the ini. Unfortunately for CTF players, who play WS on and rely on TW to recharge ammo via re-pickup this is still an issue.

So it really has to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

Agreed on the BS/HS issue.

Had a look at the mod list:

Additions that will have negligible affect on Game Play:

* Warmup / Ready Up
* Menu system improvements allowing direct access to common .ini elements
- - texture settings
* Ability to change the COLOR of the person at a distance.
* Customizable crosshairs
- - Multiple x-hair selection
- - Color selection
* A completely reworked scoreboard with at least the information from 2k4
- - Ping
- - Kills
- - Deaths
- - Net
- - Flag Caps
* Stats Tracking
* Auto Demo Recording (with fix for behindview issue)
* Customizable HUD
* Mapvote
* Auto Screenshot

All of this is good stuff that should have been in the game from scratch. Wonder about the second point about the menu system improvements though: Will this be a ingame menu or a re-work of the main UI? If this will be made as a mutator there will be no way to affect the UI, and a full comp mod would be alienating.

There was also some additional tweaks:

Additions that will affect Game Play:

* Camera height/player height adjustment
* Weapon Throw (CTF issue)
* 1v1 mod (no amp, no invis. sublist to follow as this develops)
* imbalanced item/vehicle removal from maps (probably a simple mutator i would think)
* Crosshair feedback removal (red flash)
* Configurable Friendly Fire (currently fixed @ 50%)
* Configurable 'NoSuperPickups" (current state is all are removed from a map)
* Removal of/or Optional Lodbias (info needed)
* Disable own footsounds

Camera height, 1v1 mod and configurable FF/NoSP (and I count item/vehicle into that) would be ok, the other ones can be left out.

The weapon throw in CTF: Adjust the play style/map item loadout not the game. Cross hair feed back is a game feature, only reason to remove it is if it interfer with the custom cross hairs. Disabling own footsteps is also totally unecessary, and it doesen't help leveling playing field at all so live with it. The lodbias part I have no opinion about.

There is no bright skins in the list to date, merely the ability to modify the color other than blue or red. To a large part this helps those that are colorblind, or partially colorblind, or in general just have a hard time seeing certain colors. :D

Hehe, yeah I guess I deserved it. You prove the point though. I know of other players as well that this is an issue, we are not just blowing smoke! :D

I know. Just players are bringing it up.

Im all for everything else. Especially netcode, if it works right with vehicles.

The fugly color saturation system in place that caters to the bright skin people works fine. I do think custom colors would be nice though.

UTcomp is a must 4 UT3, with or without bright skins!

i got a question to ask: in UT2k4 there were also some other mutators / plugins like UTcomp, named: arena mod or something like that. are these plugins as good as UTcomp or is UTcomp the big boss of this group?
