A quick question to the guys allready using the editor in a some what profesional role. What are your LD rigs like?
Currently im running with a C2Dou, 8800GTX and 2GB ram, vista 32. I have my collectors edition on pre order and am going to concentrate on LD more so than playing :)
As I understand compile times and the like will be a lot longer with UE3, so would I see any major gains if I went and got a quad core cpu, a few more gb ram and vista 64?
Many thanks,
Matt.

My work rig is weaker than my home rig.
Home rig:
e6600 (2.4GHz duo)
2 GB RAM
8800GTX
Vista 64
Gears of War editor works excellent, steady FPS, no crashes so far. I'm assuming UT3 editor will work similarly fine.

machine at work is a GTS 320 with 1 gig ram, runs and plays fair, no problems with the editor either, not sure how much what upgrades will effect compiling time but to be honest Unreal is no where as slow as the half life editor so i wouldnt worry too much about it
i just bought a new rig for home SLI 8800GT 512s, quad proc, 4 gig ram, and 2 22"widescreen monitors so hopefully will run UE3 well :P
if you want to really save time with an upgrade, i would seriously suggest a 2nd monitor (will save ALOT of time and frustration working with editor as at work im constantly in kismet/generic browser and the main unreal window)

Holy ****, Crysak, that's one killer rig you've got there.
And second monitor seconded. Got 2 20 inch widescreens at home and I'd dread using UE3 editor with just 1 screen now. (got 2 monitors at work too)

lol thats good to hear ^^ m8
thanks, hope it all comes together with no problems tomorrow lol, damn EPIC making me upgrade my PC :P figured may as well get a half way decent PC this time around, regretted buying a mediocre PC last time (needs a desk fan to keep it alive.. seriously.... its on now), hopefully it wont get outdated too quick :S system requirements seem to be slowing down now dev costs are soooooo high (and long) for games :(
sorry i cant comment too much regarding the original post, but yea 2 monitors is always good :P ^^ cant go too far wrong with the rig you got now, should be more than enough, maybe think about getting another few gigs of ram? stuffs dirt cheap nowadays.
maybe think about returning to XP? runs faster and cheaper both ingame and out ;)

Thanks for the replies guys. I think i'll just get some more ram then and a copy of vista 64, see how I get on with that. I allready have 2 monitors, a 22 inch and a 19inch wide screen, as I do a lot of dev work in my job anyway :D
