Epic switches the forums - now i guess its the right place for our BombinRun Mod :)
www.BombingRun.org is proud to announce BombingRun for Unreal Tournament 3. BombingRun, abbreviated as BR, is a team-based gametype. Each level has one ball in the middle of the play field. The objective is to pick up the ball, deliver it to the enemy base and fire it through their goal. You must also defend your own goal to prevent the enemy from scoring. The ball is dropped when a player is killed and can then be picked up by anyone on either team. BR in UT2003/4 has not gained much popularity and Epic Games discontinue the gametype in Unreal Tournament 3. So we plan to adapt BR from UT2003/4 on unreal Tournament 3.

Will there be any changes to the gametype compared to UT2kx-version ?
Will this be a mod that the community can agree on the rules and be able to maintain a semi-official version of ? (I hope you do a better job than the Assault-community ever did ... )
And what is the AI going to be like ?
Can we expect the AI to be a bit more *eh* intelligent when it comes to playing the game (ie : are they going to pass the ball to players ?).

may i suggest adding in the abillity to have (netural deliveries) multi ball support along with multi delivery support.
and some other dyamic options (maybe have some mapper settings like rotating bomb deliveries after each score like red team delivery a,b,or c is target this time)
and other things of the such to make the game more interesting so each map is not the same each time...
if you guys are up to it i would also suggest things like reverse balls where you gotta score in the other hole, or team only balls where they can only be scored by one red or blue (2 smaller extra balls, one red and one blue that can give like 1 point or so to your side (i think normal is 3 for a score right?)
could make it more interesting when in one round the score can go from 0,0 to 1,3

Good idea. And it's so great to see that BR is back!

hmm can't join the forum....404error and the words are in some different language...
i'd love to join the team and help in any way i can, learn the coding and modeling from people with more experience can very much help in making me be able to do much more...
hehe wanta be a triple threat in this stuff, map making, coding, modeling ^_^

I really hope so, spruce up the gameplay and stuff and i'll play BR.
How about having say 3 goals around your base, and (it can be configurable) every ball that goes into it destroys a part of said goal sphere, though each goal counts as a point (which makes sense), and maybe their could be something that would pop up randomly at times in the game and if your team gets it to a damage goal sphere (post.. whatever) it heals a part of it(maybe could give a whole point to team), and the whole point being to have as the highest score when the goal posts (spheres) are all destroyed.
Just a super random idea to make the gameplay more deep.

Oooo a compitition, always great to make the best one for the community
(red/blue,beta/vhs,mcdonalds/burgerking)
other is better? make yours better then theirs and so on till one finally gives out and we got the best we can get!
anyway the br forum is kind of quiet :(

Why do you need the old BR-code ?
You're better of making a new design that fits in the UT3-style instead of trying to get UT2kx-code running in the new environment.

And please ... do not start competing for resources like coders for a project such as this, because far too many teams have enough problems filling the basic spots already.
Having multiple teams develop similar mods only results in lots of unfinished projects and no decent release.

Analyse what BombingRun was (basically 1-flag CTF) and then let it grow from there until it is exactly what it was.
Adding too many options at the start only results in a large project that will never be released as it'll be in eternal beta-hell.
Possible roadmap for the gametype :
(0: techdemo ) first release : 1-flag CTF
This would be a modified CTF-gametype that allows both teams to grab a single "neutral" flag and then bring it back to their base.
(1 : alfa 1 ) introduce rounds so players respawn at a base after a point is scored
(2 : alfa 2 ) intermediate milestone :
= add a weapon that allows players to 'throw' the flag
= define basic rules when such throwing is allowed
(3: beta) finalise basic bombing-run design :
= scoring
= point-awards
(4: release candidate / public beta ) formalise testing with the goal of getting rid of any remaining bugs
(5 : gold) post on the big news ...
(6 : phase 2) gather ideas for 'improving' the gametype ...
...

This time please put the "bomb" in bombing run.
Maybe have a redeemer type explosion whenever a player scores.
I can imagine being chased closely by 6 people and somehow get lucky enough to score and then the explosion gives me another 6 frags!
Oh, and add an option to adjust the bounciness of the ball. I can imagine the video's on youtube now!

I thought there was a separate mutator for BR that turned the ball into a 'bomb' with a redeemer-style explosion.
I really hope that the bombing-run community can show Epic that the gametype isn't as dead as Epic thought it was.
However for that to happen it needs to look and feel like it is a core-gametype instead of a tricked out of something that has so many options that no one knows what the gametype is anymore (IMHO that's what made Frag*ball such a tiny gametype when it was released for UT'99).

Whatever happens, I hope someone can step up to the plate and make a good BR mod. It's a great gametype and should go over pretty well. JaFO has some very good ideas here! Keep it up!

the 2k4 bombing run map was way too large... it was always the problem...

It'd be good to have a newer version of it, but all the same the regular version, at least as the default.

Yeah, good luck with the BR mods, hope they work out.
You guys (either mod) should consider making a side mutator which turns CTF into BR, with a code that finds middle of map and spawns the BR ball, and turns the Flags into goal posts. Now that would be neat to have.
