The game runs fine on my machine, but I'm unable to access the editor. The splash screen for the editor appears, the hard-drive begins to load and then nothing. Anyone have suggestions on how to trouble-shoot?
My rig:
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Mobo
2 G Mushkin Ram
NVidia 7800 GS graphics card (current driver as of 10/04/07)
WD HD 80G
Windows XP SP2
Direct X 9c
Yes, the editor is installed and I've tried both the short cut method (add "editor" to target) and the "run editor" from the start-program menu.

Here's what I did to make it work. I don't know if this will be the same for everyone. My first install, on the Gears splash screen that comes up, I hadn't clicked on "More Options". Do that and select to install the editor. Then I did the following.
I have Vista. I went into Windows Explorer, and selected the following: (C:)>Program Files>Microsoft Games> Gears of War> and then selected the "Binaries" folder. In it was the Startup file. It's an .exe file. I right clicked on it, and chose "Create Shortcut". It says, "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". Select "Yes". Then I right clicked on that shortcut>chose properties, and in the open box beside where it says "Target", I now have: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\WarGame-G4WLive.exe" editor. If you installed it somewhere else than the C, it won't look like that. It does take a while for the (Unreal) Editor for Gears to come up.

Thanks for the fast reply, deez. I saw your post earlier and tried your suggestion, but I still get the "splash screen, loading & nothing" effect. BTW, the exe file you suggest to use as a target is a little confusing as there is a "startup" exe and a "WarGame-G4Live" exe. I tried both and nada. Thanks for your help, though.

When I installed GoW the first time, I didn't go to more option and check "Install Editor"
When I realized that, I uninstalled, and re-installed to a new location, and this time I checked "Install Editor" in more options.
However, I think my installer is bugged because it installs the game, but both times I installed, I have not received ANY shortcuts to the directory.
I look in the binaries folder and I don't see any different applications to run GoW Editor. Please help. What file do I need to start in order to run the editor. I'm not even sure it installed since the installer neglects to install even the short cuts.
(Game runs btw)

The game does not instal a shortcut to the editor, just the necessary files. This you need to do manually. Create a shortcut of Startup.exe and right click, and goto properties. In the target box, simply add "editor" (no quotes) after the quotations following startup.exe
IE "C:\Program Files\Gears of War\Binaries\Startup.exe" editor

I instead made a short cut to the binaries directory to access startup.exe -
The problem is, startup.exe only runs the game. Where would the option be to start the editor?
At the moment, I'm convinced it didn't install the editor even though I checked the option. Is there a "Start Editor" button I'm neglecting to see on the splash screen?

Never Mind ! Thank you for making my life easier. This works. Much appreciated.
I didn't understand right away the directory line you gave me but it works.

That's another thread I found on not being able to access the editor.
IE "C:\Program Files\Gears of War\Binaries\Startup.exe" editor
works
