View Full Version : Exporting Models/Textures/Animations?

Is there any possible way to export models, textures, or animations? Preferably models? Every time I try it says "This operation cannot be performed on a cooked package". Is there anyway to "uncook" a package? Sorry, I'm new at GoW modding and have no idea how to do most of the things in UnrealEd.

Well I don't believe that is allowed.

You would have to think they don't want people to rip off Epic's Artwork and use it for other things (non GoW related projects for example). And at the same time it prevents the chance that someone takes art that the GoW community creates and rip that off as well.

I just want to edit existing models and put them back in, but I understand what you're saying.

If someone really wanted to steal textures, though, they could just Print Screen it.

Printscreening would work to a certain point, but the images of the textures you can get are not actually the size of the textures. Sure, you could get an image of the texture, but it would lack the resolution and quality of the original file.

Also, a little tip for anyone wanting to create normal maps for use in Unreal, I suggest trying a little program called Crazy Bump. Just google it and you'll find somewhere to get it. It's really an awesome program. You can take a texture rocks, for instance, and generate a normal map from that texture. You can also do a bit of editing of the detail in the normal maps within Crazy Bump. I tend to do a bit of back and forth between Photoshop and crazy bump when I build normal maps.

Also, nice tutorial on normal maps on cgtextures.com. Check it out.

I would actually like to know, can you un-cook a package?

Yes, but I doubt epic would like it anyway... Even then there is still no method to export the mesh data, and the textures from the "epic cooked" packages don't export.

I was hoping to get some resources, so I could figure out how to make new characters, but no luck...

Edit: And the textures for the characters are usually about 2048x2048. That's twice as bit as even the ones for the 360, so print screening would be extremely lossy.

Yes, but I doubt epic would like it anyway...

And how would you go about doing that?

It wouldn't help you anyway, like I said above. Besides I don't want Epic mad at me >_<
