I purchased Gears for the PC for the editor, put the disc in, did an installation, and I can't find the editor. In the Games for Windows manual that came with the game- the link doesn't work. I found the right link. I started the game, and it was running choppy. I have a pretty good system. I am very frustrated. I may have done something wrong, but as a consumer, better documentation, and a easier way to find the editor (unless I didn't install it) is what I would like.

navigate to the directory of your GoW game. Locate the exe file that launches the game itself. Create a shortcut to that .exe

Now right click on the shortcut and open its properties. The Target line of editable text will be pointing to the file path for the game, at the end of that line type " editor".

it should read something like this....

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\Startup.exe" editor

==

Now you should have one shortcut to open the Game, and one to open the editor. I suggest renaming the one you just made to Editor 8 ).

Could you write the path to the exe file that launches the game please? Thanks, and thanks for your quick help.

Copy your Gears shortcut, and make a new one with this in the command line:

X:\(Your GEARS install directory)\Binaries\Startup.exe editor -cookededitor -installed

BE SURE YOU PUT IN YOUR GEARS INSTALL DIRECTORY

I'm running Vista. I see no shortcut. It's not under "All Programs>Microsoft Games". Is this as easy as the editor is made to be found?

Can you please tell me where the Gears shortcut is? I don't know how to do what you're asking- in that I only have a shortcut under "Games" from the Start Menu is Vista.

Is the exe. file in the "Binaries", "Engine", or "WarGAme" folder?

I am at: (C):\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries and I believe I have found the Startup folder. After right clicking on it, I made a shortcut on my desktop. I right-clicked on "Properties" on that. So next, am I to rename the "Target" or "Start in" line, and what would be the exact finished line. Thanks.

I just found where to install it from the very first when you put in the disk, and then when the gears install page comes up. There's a "More Options" selection. Click on that, and that's where you choose to install the editor. That's a mistake to do it that way. I would've rather had seen the choice to install the editor on the first page.

New Info:

Here's what I did to make it work. I don't know if this will be the same for everyone. My first install, on the Gears splash screen that comes up, I hadn't clicked on "More Options". Do that and select to install the editor. Then I did the following.

I have Vista. I went into Windows Explorer, and selected the following: (C>Program Files>Microsoft Games> Gears of War> and then selected the "Binaries" folder. In it was the Startup file. It's an .exe file. I right clicked on it, and chose "Create Shortcut". It says, "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?". Select "Yes". Then I right clicked on that shortcut>chose properties, and in the open box beside where it says "Target", I now have: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Gears of War\Binaries\WarGame-G4WLive.exe" editor. If you installed it somewhere else than the C, it won't look like that. It does take a while for the (Unreal) Editor for Gears to come up.
