The worst part of all is that this means there's no possibility for remote admin activities. Without webadmin, the only way to admin a live server is to actually join it (as player or spec) and use the in-game console.

If Epic doesn't have webadmin ready on the launch date, it'll show multiplayer to be low on their priorities list.

omg! i cant beleive what im hearing... no webadmin? :(

First, a buggy server browser that no one can possibly rely on
Second, a buggy linux server release that always crashes after a few mins of play
Thirdly, no webadmin!
I wonder whats next...

I've been running UT servers since ut99, this has been the worst so far :(

If this carries on, im tempted to just shutdown my UT servers and run TF2 instead, since thats what most of my colleagues n friends are into now

Son of a B1tch !! It can't be. Web Admin was always a great feature that set UT apart from other games as far as server administration goes. What a huge loss for a lot of server admins, if this feature isn't included with UT3.

But Epic beware...u are nothing without the community! Dont make a mistake...

Ouch.

I have servers that I was going to switch to UT3.
If no Web Admin and having to go into the game and use the console is not Cool at all. We need admin tools and Epic if you want to help the UT community out.
Please put it in the game or make a post with download links. PM me or post it with some info on this subject and I will pass it onto the ONS community.

We want to setup Ladders and be able to Broadcast matches as soon as possible . ;)

I think that one of two things are going on:

1. Epic no longer cares about the UT community, online multiplayer, and producing a quality game and just wants to sell as many copies as possible in the short term and if the UT franchise dies, then so be it, OR:

2. Epic absolutely had to have the game finished so that it could be store shelves by November 19. Privately and internally, they feel it's incomplete and still in beta form and wish they could have continued to work on it until it was "done", but Midway held a contractual gun to their heads. Consequently, they've been hard at work on a comprehensive patch ever since they shipped the gold version to Midway.

I'm hoping that it's Number 2 and that all of the glaring deficiencies (like, ahem, <cough cough> the SERVER BROWSER (!!!)) will be ironed out in Uber Patch #1.

uggggg.... The bad news just keeps coming and coming. It's like a bad dream or something. What happen to "we designed this game for PC first, because that's where our loyal fans are".

I don't want to sound like the jerk here, but it really does seem like in many aspects this game was ported to the PC from the console and not the other way around.

I've been playing since UT99 and to be honest I really don't know how much I'll play UT3. Unless the mod community saves the day, which I hate to say because I really do like the way UT3 moves. I think it's a perfect balance between UT99 and UT2K4.

Breaks my heart :(

I do too! Please god let it be true! <- hey that rhymes :D I suppose #2 could be possible, Midway did announce some financial losses. Though to be truthful I think it's just wishful thinking on our part.

I too wish that #2 was true. But it's already known that they're working at full steam on getting the PS3 version out and then they have to work on the XBOX port. I wonder how much time they will get to work on a patch. Even if they get a patch out soon, how many things can they fix?

As long as the class stubs are there we can write something. If they're not we're stuffed.

I'm certainly planning to do something for remote admin as I did with Shambler's help for ut2004, given the classes to work with to do so. It becomes even more likely if I can pursuade him to help me again!

man .. a thought just came to mind...... What if its true that Epic feels lets say... Let the UT community deal with it we did our part. hummm look I just paid some major bux to support this game by buying a dedicated server. I really dont want to do all my kicks, bans and other stuff thru the freakin console!! :o

Now for all of us admin here is some info that will work untill they get WebAdmin Working!!

There is "FREE" little progie called MacroGame. You can assign keys for certain admin commands. I tested it when I spammed the newer vehicles in single player.( I spamed 10 DarkWalkers look like war of the worlds lol ) This little progie will help big time until we get WebAdmin

Here is the link to download it:

http://www.2-software.net/Macrogame-1919.html

Make sure you have {ENTER} at the end of each statement:
Example:

ADMINLOGIN PASSWORD{ENTER}
stat fps{ENTER}

{ENTER}= Auto return key

I have not seen any of the admin kick or ban commands but lets just say its BAN and KICK for example:

BAN username
KICK username

Notice the {ENTER} is not at the end thats cuz you need to type in the user name to kick or ban.

But you can put the BAN and Kick Command in macrogame without the {ENTER} at the end so you can put the usersname in

Hope this helps! Too bad it takes an end user to to figure out a work around!

Speaking of dedicated server pack, is it releasing on the 19th or is it going to be out a day or 2 early so there will be more than just demo servers to play on? I am shutting down my ut2004 server this week and It was my hope that my server host would be able to have a UT3 server up for me around Thanksgiving if at all possible.

dedicated dl should be out tomorrow...

Fixed in the retail version, as well as the dedicated server download:

- The multihome option -multihome doesn't work properly; process binds to
the correct IP address, yet still the wrong one gets published.

- The default generated UTGame.ini only contains the last maplist in
DefaultGame.ini (as mentioned by Matt, this wasn't a bug, but improper .ini syntax - the default ini will be fixed in the patch).

- The server's query port is dynamic so it can't be fixed to a given value.
(It defaults to 6500 in the retail version, incrementing by 100 if the port is already used.)

- Server installer doesn't work on Windows 2003.

Fixed in the dedicated server download:

- Linux Demo Server crashes when IP is entered in HLSW.

- Linux Demo Server requires SSE2 which requires a Pentium 4 class CPU or
better. For AMD CPUs this translates to "Athlon64 or better".

Addressed in the first patch. First patch should be available in beta early next week:

- There is no way to specify which configuration ( .ini ) to load per server.

- There is no way to specify the servers query / GameSpy port.

- Without -unattended the server will prompt to upgrade the servers config
files, particularly if you run more than one server as the same user on a machine.

- CPU usage at idle is high.

Still being investigated: (may not be addressed in first patch)

- The MessageOfTheDay separator | doesn't work currently.

- Port scanning a server or connecting to a full server can make it show more than the max players connected.

- Rcon admin commands don't appear to work ATM.

- Each server requires a unique login.

- Web admin.

Will not be addressed in first patch.

- Running servers under Windows requires the latest Direct3D support installed via the DirectX runtime.

Do they have a seperate development team between PCs and Xbox/PS3? If they don't, I don't see any useful patches coming until those versions are released.

Remember, they made a big announcement that the PS3 version was going to be a console exclusive release with the PC. They then backed away from that.

I am guess there is one development team and the second it went gold, the majority of them switched to the consoles.

As Epic said, it is not YET ready, but will be there soon. I wonder why they could not hire an external web programmer for a small fee, he would do it within a few days...
However, until that you all have to learn, how are working the text editors. Wow, what a tragedy... Especially for the "admins" who can use only mouse for configuring...

Especially for the "admins" who can use only mouse for configuring...

You're slightly missing the point here thomaster. Adminning a server isn't exactly an amazingly difficult process, and anyone hosting a dedicated server can access their hosts if absolutely neccessary.

A webadmin system is needed for nothing more than ease of use. There's absolutely no problem with there not being a webadmin system at launch - although I'll add that it really is a glaring oversight. Server admins will adapt, and dedicated servers will still be hosted, however the amount of servers being hosted, and the general standard of adminning on those servers will likely be quite low, due solely to the inexperience of many users in using a command line interface or ini-only modifications to configure their servers.

I'll say it again - webadmin is not neccessary, but it's a very, very nice-to-have

You would think the would have few development teams for different sections of the game IE:

Internet Development Team:
Web Admin, Server & Netcode Development

Grafix Development Team:
Artistic Development Team

Etc. Etc.

O'well as an admin its a "WenAdmin" is must have IMHO.

I just hope sinx the developer of MapMixer for UT2004 will make a version for UT3 so I can make a custom map list again like I did in UT2004 Awesome little progie ;)

Ya i think they are trying to add storyline to UT now since they didn't make an actual Unreal 3 story... its a bad idea. the word "Tournament" implies that you are taking characters from a full game and putting them into an Arena style fighting match.. unrelated to the single player story.... thats what UT3 should have been... not this garbage about the alien races and necris out to kill us all and pulling some battlefield CG movies

Hi...

I would like to ask if there is a place that lists the basic files that you need to modify to get your server customized & off the ground. I have a command line that will kick off the server but I am not sure if my config is sticking.

Also, do we know if NAT is working? I don't plan to directly connect any of my servers to a raw internet connection.

Thanks...

Well from my experience with the demo if your behind a router it does not work. This is what I did and it did not work.

1. port foward and Set ports to 7777 both TCP and UDP
2. Setup static ip
3. Turned off firewall
4. Tried 4 different routers still did not work.

The only way I could get it to work was to get rid of the router  then it worked. I have no problems with Halo or UT2004 behind a router. But never could get demo to work with a router.

Solution: Paid $200 for a 24 user game server  lol

Well I'm not sure what your problem is....
Me:
1. Router: Buffalo Airstation: WHR-G54S
2. ports forwarded:
UDP: 7777, 7778, 7787, 7788, 42292
TCP: 27900, 28902, 42292
(notice 42292 is set on both, tho I'm not sure if that port is really necessary)
3. not using -multihome
4. My Server is Kamdyland, confirmed to be showing up to friends in other countries with no problems.

I got these ports from another post in these forums when the demo first came out. Never had a problem.

YourDaddy

I am using a linksys router (or should a say a crapsys router). I will try and open up the ports that you listed out here. The IP for my server should be 68.3.227.64:9999 (I cannot use 7777 for some reason on my ISP).

Also does anyone know if the UTserver mailing list is down? I got a bounce back from it last night.

KewlAzMe

if u use 9999 then u need to also forward 10000 for the query port. It's always one number higher than the game port

YourDaddy
11-17-2007, 11:56 AM
I have that. I used the same port for my UT2004 server so I was always forwarding 9999 and 10000 on the router to the server.

Thanks.
