Nothing special yet, but I hope to create a nice single player desert map with sand dunes, and egyptian archetecture with plenty of tombs, traps, and locust. As of right now I've just created a basic terrain structure being overlooked by an excellent skybox that came with the game.

I have yet to encounter the Brumak in the single player yet, and this is truly the first time I've ever played against it. I clearly didnt know what to do when battling it, I simply just threw it in the map for ****s, and giggles.

Hey, that's awesome! I'm really impressed. You perfectly captured the feel of a desolate desert.

The only problem I could see was the dust particles. For example, when the sand gets shot it doesn't look like sand that's coming up. It would be really nice to see some footsteps or sand flying up when the Brumak steps. I've never gotten into particles so I don't know if this stuff is even possible. I just thought it would be neat.

There is one idea I have though to make it neat. You could have sand flurries on the horizon. You know, dust picked up in the wind. You could do it like they do the fog in GoW (a flat plane on a path). If you want to see what I mean, load up mp_Courtyard. It has a good example if you look up in the air near the skyscrapers. Oh, and perhaps a slight wind ambient noise would be nice too.

Really great work though. Better than I could do. (I'm watching the video over and over drooling)

I've recently figured out how to have different particles and sound effects for the specified material.

It seems you can apply a physical material to your specific material, in this case its the sand. The physical material is what will hold all the different particles and sound effects for whatever action is happening appon the material its equiped on. This means you can have different particle effects and sound effects for each character in the game on seperate materials, and even their inividual actions that they perform such as rolling or stomping.

I've been looking into creating my own emergence hole, while its a very long way off I plan on perhaps having the sand sink in, and then spit out.

I hope to get some results up in a few days.

Your getting pretty good there Kronos.

Can you tell me how you got your map to play in full screen? I also wish to capture my progress and share it, (especially for my potential employers).

Where did you find that skybox my man?

Inside of your Generic Browser if you highlight anything in the Packages Sub Directory listing you can right click to open a menu...

From there you select Fully Load. Doing so will load many goodies..

There is a skybox package... wink wink

Unless you mean when I was playing, simply press alt+enter, and it'll maximize your window.

Yes, how did you get it to be full screen while you were playing?

Flip, I had the same issue. When I play something I'm working on in the editor, it will only play about the size of the individual windows, maybe 1/4 of my total screen. One way around this is to press the "Play from Editor" button as normal, but then immediately switch applications. This way when the play window pops up, you can click the maximize button on that window, then click in the window and you're golden! Granted, this is some ridiculous work around. If anyone finds an actual option in the editor to enable this, let us all know!!!

Yeah I would like to know how you got to full screen mode and also what program you used to record your footage.

I was able to pause the game, then maximize the window but it was still in windowed mode, so when I used fraps to record it I got some messy stuff at the bottom. I want to record clean footage like you have.

I actually left my window in window mode and used fraps fromt here, it only captured from what was in my game, you could try alt+enter on your keyboard to maximize the window.

Thank you for your reply. I went back to using fraps when you told me you were using fraps.

What happened was my resolution was set very high and fraps was recording extra stuff I guess...

When I set my resolution to the default, and ran a level and recorded again it came out perfect!

Thanks for the nudge, now I'm back on track.

Hello there guys, I'm totally new to unreal mod and your demo is actually really appealing and cool. I have a few questions about what you have done:

Does a skybox have to be set in additive or substractive mod ?

How do you make your brumak alive and interacting with you ?

What are fraps ?

THX a lot in advance :-)

This a great map, keep us posted!

1. The skybox has to be additive because you have to add a skybox mesh which is going to be covering your entire map.

2. In order to have brumak, first you should try learning a little bit about kismet & how to spawn enemies. For this i recommend you visit some tutorials on AI & Kismet available in the tutorials thread in this section.

3. Fraps is a very good software used to take in-game screenshots & record gameplay videos. For this visit -> fraps.com

Hell Far and thx a bunch for your replies,

Regarding skybox (or skydome mesh ???)i have another question, is that possible to use ramp bitmap to light the scene (for instance blue-pink-orange ramp) plug somewhere on a light ? Is there a good tut somewhere for skydome mesh workflow for outdoor scene ?

I didn't know creatures had to be triggered through kismet, i'll have a look. Are you talking about this thread for the ai tut ? http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=583711

I personaly found this site extremely awesome to grasp the concept of kismet and do some good practice:
http://www.avld.org/pages/tuts/tuts.htm

Can you only trigger enemies in single player map or multiplayer map is accepted ?

I didn' know about fraps, thx for shedding some light on this one, as i said I'm just making my first step within the UE III.

Do you know if 3dbuzz covers animating creatures through kismet ?

THX again Far!

More Tutorials, follow tutorials from 1-12 to get some fast learning about working in UE3 for Gears. Very useful.
http://www.veoh.com/series/HouseofUnreal

3dbuzz does provide some very good tutorials about different areas of unreal editor but i have not seen any tutorial specific to animating creatures. By the way what you want to animate? All enemies, players will have default animation sequences when spawned. So don't worry about that ;)

cedrico

The idea is to pipe new animation sequences in existing spawn creatures. would love to change model skins as well.
I use both max and maya so if any package is easier than the other I would love to know...

BTW where can you get naming convention for skeleton hierarchy and skeleton mesh prop to model a character??
THX man for your support

I dont remember particularly what settings I used seeing as I made this some time ago when Gears PC was fairly new, I figure they were on high or at least medium.

The level wasnt really packed with detail but if your really interested in a few of my PC, here they are....

GPU: 2900xt 1 gig
CPU: 4200x2 2.2ghz
RAM: 2 gigs ddr
PS: 600 wat
OS: Vista 32

The video is 27mb and 30 seconds long, I would of used xvid or x264 as a compression but had decided to go with wmv at the time, but usually I'll go with xvid or x264 seeing as they blow most encoders out of the water when used correctly.

Uhh, Kronos is kinda definetly not going to respond to you. It's really too bad, I saw him making a map called hollow, it looked pretty nice.
