For my final project in Level Design I am doing a gears map. However at the school we do not have GOW. Is there anyway i will be able to show this in the class, can I compile this single level and make an exe?
Does anyone know if GOW will run if I install it on an external HD?
My other option is to set up a level fly through but im not really sure how to do it with the new editor is it similar to the 2k4 editor?

No you can not make an exe for a map you will need Gears of War PC to run it. copy the gears folder over to the external HDD or install it on the HDD.

Making your fly through won't be too hard. Here are the basic steps you'll take:
create a trigger in the level
with the trigger selected open kismet, right-click, and create a new touch event using the trigger
create a new matinee and attach the play tab to the trigger
from the Actor Classes browser add a Camera Actor to the level
with the Camera Actor selected add group for the camera and a movement track in matinee
edit the movement track to create your fly through
Note:
make sure real time preview is on and you can preview your matinee easily by hitting the spacebar to play
hitting enter is the shortcut for creating a new keyframe in matinee
definitely make a short segment of the flythrough first to make sure you're not flying through way too fast or too slow

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work on an extermal hard drive.
random Q, what school are you going to?
