Chaos for UT3 has it's first player model. He was created by MacTom27, and he's called the Chaos Lord.

Wow that looks bloody awesome R.Flagg.
I'm glad to see you guys up a running for UT3 so soon. I've been thinking about joining up with you guys for UT3 but I don't think that my character modeling skills are up there just yet.

I'm pretty sure there are already a few models people have made, but this guy does look cool. But the lighting in the first pic is kind of flat though, so I'm not getting a good impression of the normal map like I should.

Looking good there, whats the polycount for the guy?

Also from the graphic it looks like he is bump mapped, if I'm not mistaken. You should try using the Nvidia Normal Map Filters or CrazyBump and create a normal map for the character. Basic as it may be, the results will be much better if you use a normal map for a lot of the details on the character.

Looks good :)

By the way, are you the same R.Flagg that I knew in the clan {SotC} in UT1?

Thanks folks! :) We're very happy to have MacTom joining the Chaos. He also does great concept art stuff too. We could post more now, but we're hoping save some to 'open' a new web site with soon. (fingers crossed!)

I've been thinking about joining up with you guys for UT3 but ....

That's always nice to hear, thank you. But you would probably have to be interested in doing more than just character models. But if that's cool, and Chaos is what you're interested in, then it's not unheard of to start as a beta tester, and continue to work on your skills at the same time. Get's you involved in the mod's development, and when you're ready, you can just speak up and take a shot at a model on our wish list that hasn't been spoken for yet. It's been done before.

Caravaggio - Sorry if I sounded misleading, all I meant was that he's the first UT3 player model for Chaos. I have no idea if other folks already have models or not.

Looking good there, whats the polycount for the guy?

Also ....

I'd have to refer you to MacTom27 for technical details, but I do believe there is some normal mapping involved here. And I believe he's in the range of 7000.

By the way, are you the same R.Flagg that I knew in the clan {SotC} in UT1?

Sorry, no. But "Hi!" just the same. :) I was using the same name in UT1, but I've never had that clan tag.

Thanks again for the kind words. We've got more stuff to come (toys!), please give us a shot when we're ready!

Hey flag, I hope you get a good team together. I always enjoyed the mod. Lets hope more talented peopel come your way so it doesnt take too much longer than normal to pump out a great mod.

Chaos UT is to UT what CS is to Half Life. You cant have a UT without CUT.

Ive always been curious though...What you people do for a living. Do you guys work in a similar field for the most part? Or are you hobbyists?

And here the proof I use normal maps on this model :

Also I wish to add that normal maps have been designed for game engines not really 3dsmax (even if it is great to work with it).
They will look way better with the unreal engine.

That's one billion zillion times better than most of the player models in Chaos UT for UT04.

Personally, I hope that the proxy king will be back. He was awesome. \o/

That's very kind, thanks.

Hard to answer the questions without getting into a long boring narrative. So.., while I don't wish to be rude, maybe we'll just save that for the "VH1 Behind the Scenes" docu-drama, like they did with Terrance and Phillp. ;)

I was specifically referring to this (http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/9753/shot00606yh1.jpg) model. The rest are just fine though.

We will do our best to make the mod the most enjoyable as possible !

He will be back too ;).

I started using 3d tools 4 years ago.
I started skinning in 2005 ,
I started modeling and animating characters in march 2006.

MacTom27,

That model looks great. I wanted to offer a few suggestions.

You should smooth out the corner normals on the fingers. In your composite shot that you posted, the low poly version has rounded fingers, but they seems to become very cube like on the normal map.

What is the poly count for your low poly, in triangles? It looks like it could actually be a bit higher. I'm just basing that comment off of the normal map is not really digging deep enough in topology.

Keep up the great work. If you ever need to bounce a question off of anyone, let me know. I'm a student studying Visual and Game Programming. So I'm either programming or modeling at any waking moment in the day. Take care.
