Does anyone know if you will be able to use 3DSMAX to model for UT3?
I have tried learning Maya, but it is just so intense. A local college is offereing 3DSMAX classes and I thought I might take some classes so I can start modeling my own vehicles/weapons. Up till now I have had to get models elsewhere and put the code behind them. I want to be able to do the whole thing from start to finish.
Thanks for any help...

I think UT uses 3ds files, aka the 3DStudio format.
Last time I checked 3DSMAX had support for both maya and 3ds files. It would just be a matter of saving your renders and models in another format in 3ds. I'm not sure if maya supports 3ds fully atm. But you can always bring them into 3ds and convert.
There's always been a way to convert 3ds to maya and the other way around, that's also the case for LW, Zbrush, Animator and XSI.
Just go with what feels right to model in for you. It's true that 3ds is easier to start in too.

UnrealEd used to import ASE files for static meshes which I think 3ds max could export.
I'd really like to see the latest info on actorx if they're still using it. It had flavors of both Maya and 3ds.
There's no reason to save renders unless you're making a texture or baking normal maps.
And 3ds is only easier to start in compared to maya. There's no reason you couldn't build your models in any given program and just use 3ds or maya to convert them to the proper format, whatever that will be. At least for models. For animation you'd have to use maya or 3ds.
We need more experts in here, I'm just repeating stuff that's dated from 2004...

Thanks for all the replies guys!
I will go forward looking into 3DS classes now. Maybe the university will have a reduced price copy of 3DS if I am a student.
