Anyone else agree it would be a good thing?

TAM would be fine for UT3, with a few tweaks to make it more competitive, mainly the removal of challenge mode.

It would be a horrible thing... But it will certainly happen.

what is TAM

TAM (Team Arena Master) is a round-based elimination team deathmatch gametype. It consists of two teams spawning with 100hp and 100armor and all the normal weapons with preset amounts of ammunition. All power ups/health/weapons/ammo/etc is removed from the map and if you die your are out for the round. First team to score 10 points (win 10 rounds)

It plays very similar to Rocket Arena from Quake, except for Challenge Mode, which decreased it's competitiveness in the USA (while European servers/leagues disabled it). Challenge Mode is where for every round you win and for every point you are up above the losing team, you lose 5(correct?)hp and armor.

It'll be out for UT3 no doubt. However I'd stop playing TAM/1v1 if a Threewave Capturestrike gametype was made for UT3 (or UT2004 for that matter).

I love this gametype but i don't think it will be good with the weapon switches the way they are.

I'm agree...

I'm a ut2k4 TAM player but I want to play TDM on ladder with UT3. If TAM come too quickly, 3/4 people will go on those ladder and TDM will die so TDM player will be forced to play TAM.

It's maybe a good idea but 1-2 years after the game release sound better for me.

I've been playing TAM for years and still do. I'd like to see it developed for UT3 but I think the guys who developed TAM has moved on to bigger things. Hopfully someone else will pick it up as a project.

YES plz TAM for UT3!!!! :D

I was a hardcore TAM player in UT2k4. However i don't think it will necessarily kill TDM, I mean basically it's Team Last Man Standing, which did come out for UT99, and didn't kill TDM.

And Challenge mode was so f*****g annoying... if you went flawless and it was 9-0 the last round the team with the score of 9 has like 60 health 60 armor, it's ridiculous...

It would be ok if they included it in the mod, but have it disabled for ladder play and such.

I haven't played UT3 demo yet but the way it sounds like, the weapon switch speed would be somewhat of an issue. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

the weapon switch time wouldnt be so hot with TAM.

Taboen

maybe they'll change the weapon switch time just for TAM. And don't forget adrenaline... that was a big tactical thing in TAM.

Always back up your assumptions with sources.

From an Interview with one of the TAM devs:

"Most people don't know that the transition from TAM v2.57 to TAM v3.x involved a complete re-write of the game code to prepare it for rapid porting to UT3. We've been planning ahead."

mainly the removal of challenge mode.

Make it optional, as it was for UT2004 - which will keep both camps happy

That was well before UT3 was renamed to UT3, so I don't really put any weight onto that statement. In fact, I think it's a good idea to have TAM this early in the UT3 evolution cycle - greater chance for it to die off quickly. ;)

Remember, before TAM there already was UTComp Clan Arena and it failed miserably. Then all the usual gametypes became boring and TAM came along, picking up bored gamers left and right. IMHO that's the primary reason TAM because the successful gametype it is now.
Also, I have yet to see a mod that not only brags about its code quality, but also speaks the truth while doing so. Mods with really good code don't NEED to talk about it.

That may have been a factor Wormbo. But the reaon also was that TAM is just relaxing to play. It is basically TDM where you can have a zip of your drink every round, and where you don't have to worry about pickups or health. And it gets very exciting now and then, a round- or a mapwin can all be decided by 1 kill... a headshot maybe even!

And that's what entertains people, plain simple fun, no advanced things with a big learning curve. Look at how many people prefer ut99 over 2k4, same thing here, people don't like difficult things in games, except the die-hards who have had a lot of time on their hands :p

i had an email from 3spn v.3.xxx was made in 2k4 to be portable - so tam will be fairly quick to arrive after the release of the ut3 - so rest assured you will get tam.

This seems like it's becoming a rant bored on whether or not TAM is going to be popular or not.

Apparently it's comming out, if you like it play it, if you don't, play something else, what is the point of argueing something that you can't prove now anyway.

arg politics

f*ck tam. they wanna make ut3 tdm dead again?
because what will beginners do? play tam, because it's easier to play, no need for timing skills and stuff, and they will stay playing tam even after their basic skills improved, instead of changing to tdm...that sucks hard.

Yeah, it'd be cool to see. Hopefully it won't feel so rough (best to describe it) if they make it for UT3.

I'm just going to stoke the fires here a little, and I may be completely and utterly wrong, but maybe, just maybe, some people actually prefer TAM to TDM?
And again, this is just another crazy jump of logic, but isn't it quite possible that some new players will also enjoy playing TAM over TDM?

I know, I know, mind blowing stuff isn't it?

TAM for 2k4 also game out some time after the games release... People played TDM when it first came out, then some moved to TAM, and some stayed TDM.

You seem to also be forgetting that players left the game IN GENERAL. Not just TAM, but TIME also kills a game. I really honestly don't think TAM's new release soon after UT3 launch would "kill" TDM or any other team based mod like CTF or TDM

If TAM would kill TDM wouldn't that mean that TAM is better than TDM? ^_^

never heard of or played tam in 2k4 but i think i might try it out when it comes out for UT3.

i don't understand how some people are in denial about the fact that some people might just like TAM more than TDM.
