Wanted - ORIGINAL DOM back in the game.!

would someone be up to creating a mod for the ORIGINAL domination matches? NOT the UT2K4 that was rediculous. Need it to be EXACTLY like the UT99 version.

The first thing on my TODO list fpr UT3 is a framework for more than two teams, so maybe I'll follow up with Domination. Then again, maybe Kismet is powerful enough to implement the Domination rules in a DM map.

I'm all for an original Domination mod! For those of you who never played UT99 Domination--real Domination and not the gunk that was in UT 2003/2004, it's a tremendous amount of fun.

Domination is all about hustle and hard work. It's very fast-paced an intense. In fact, it's the most intense and fast-paced game mod I've played for any of the UT games. A hardworking blue collar player can out-hustle and hold his own against a better fragger who is lazy. Unlike CTF and Onslaught where you can take some plays off, you always need to contributing in Domination.

I can't wait for the inevitable return of Domination. Thankfully, I probably won't have to, as the community will crank out a Dom mod within days or weeks of release.

Epic probably knew this, and so never considered doing the work the community would willingly do for free. Strange, huh?

+1 WAR-based DOM
DOM was a fun break from CTF for me... honed my defense skills well.
It would make a good break between the ONS-styled WAR maps.

I was surprised the 2k series didn't have much interest in bringing back Classic Domination. I think there eventually was a mod though.

I concur. Double Domination wasn't very 'double.' They should have called it 2/3rds Domination or something.

If someone really could make it possible to bring original DOM back that would be more than awesome, I so liked that gametype. As said before it was even faster than any other one, because you always had to run, to work for you team, not just sitting on a corner and snipe the one that got you flag or something. No DOM in UT, really would be a loss.

The original Domination was very strategic. It was a constant tug-of-war for points. I've often been in matches where one team was only a few points from the goal, and still lost to the trailing team. Those moments were really tense.
And, as 124c41 said, everyone is constantly required. One team mate slacking off can make a huge difference.

True, but I doubt it. Who knows, maybe they'll surprise us.

I actually loaded up the original UT:GOTY edition so I could compare UT3 and UT, and I decided to play the ORIGINAL DOM. I forgot exactly how it worked so, after I turned all 3 points to our color, I waited for a point or something -- until I noticed the counter at the side. I definitely prefer this style as opposed to the new DOM style. Makes for more frantic gameplay.

That idea does not sound too good. The whole idea behind domination is the doubt and uncertainty where you would be most needed. If you have only 1 domination point, everyone would simply be there (no strategy, only DM).

The only thing I played with in UT99 was 4-way CTF (which also supported 4-way DM).
It was brilliant. To this day I don't understand why this isn't a standard option in UT.
Also, why is it limited to 4? I'd like to go wild with, say, 8 teams.

Ok, I'll start a new topic asking people who know how to do this to make an n-way mod.
