Well I'm just wondering if anyone was considering a assault mod, or is warfare more or less objective based.
If not Can is someone going to mod a the physics to do rocket laucnhes,hammer launchers and power boot jumps
(If jump boots are in this version of ut).

Just Had to ask and figured this was the place to ask you modders, and coders.

oh, I think there will be plenty of the old features/mods/styles/whatever ported to UT3.

Warfare rules allow for a mapper to make an old-style Assault type map as well as an old style Onslaught type map.

In Warfare (or whatever the name is), you can easily create maps (from watching multiple interviews) that can be either a mix (warfare), just plain ONS or just plain Assault.

Anyone think this is a stupid idea? At least, if they forget about a good filter system. If so, we will not even be able to choose what we play at one point, just look at AS and Race/Trials maps and what happened with them. That sucked. No better word for it.

Time will tell. I did include the word may deliberately.

It might be as simple as coding it to look for AS instead of WAR... not that I know how hard that would be.

I just see no reason for anyone to start building AS again from scratch if what EPIC has really is as flexible as they claim.

I see a really good reason to start AS as a separate gametype : alternate physics-model.
UT 3 is supposed to be more 'grounded'. The IRC-interview also practically stated that rocket-jumps are not 'supported' as the Impacthammer is designed for that feature (ie : explosives won't have the momentum that the hammer has).

Add to this that the AS community never liked Assault like Epic wanted it to be I doubt that Warfare/ONS will support the kind of features that they 'need' to be in there.

Otoh ... the community never finished the AS mod for UT2k3 and I doubt they loved Epic's version in UT2k4, so I wouldn't even bet on them finishing a gametype for UT3.

I do think that a map with Assault-like features would be a nice change of pace, but I doubt it would be fun as Warfare is focussed on long games instead of the 10-second games in AS.

The 10-second game was one of the reasons I didn't ever get into AS.

Agreed, UT99 AS at this moment, is ten times the size of 2k4 AS in it's prime. Most 99 teams that came to 2k4 left in the first few months. It has only been kept going by the likes of www.drylobster.com in the NA and Danks and friends in Euroland.

I would much rather see Assault modded in to mimic UT99 Assault rather than have the same failures that 2k4 AS suffered from.

Love them myself. 10 seconds is by no means the standard. Takes a very well planned offense and a poor D to achieve.

I don't have time to commit to a team or clan, and you can't learn that sort of coordinated offensive play with bots.

As I said here (http://forums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=24982339&postcount=3), it just wasn't fun for me, mostly due to the huge discrepancy between botmatch and online play.

I think if theres gonna be an assault mod, take the vehicles out, as i think they ruin the game play of the old classic assault in UT99.

You can already launch just fine with the impact hammer and jump boots. I'm not sure how well team rocket launching works. I haven't tried that yet.

i just see the problem that you join a server that is running "warfare" and then you get lets say onslaught or assault... same thing was in past in UT99 on Servers with "CTF and Bunny Track". Later in UT2k4 it was also anoying when you joined an AS Server and it had Race Maps running.... ruined the game totally.... would be sad if it happens to Warfare. I hope modders will make Gametype Assault or Onslaught then and call the maps "ONS-XXXXX" and "AS-XXXXX" instead of "WAR-ONS-XXXXXX" or "WAR-AS-XXXXXX".

warfare is nothing like assault, actually its not even close. It has the element yes, but its far more like onslaught with objectives which doesn't help us to create assault maps.

Kismet also doesn't even have a system to make one team win if they complete an objective. theres not code or kismet sequence that allows for a timer to be reset to the right amount of time if the attacking team wins

(say team 1 wins in 5 minutes, then team 2 has 5 minutes to complete the objective.)

I disagree, onslaught maps where a lot bigger :p

and that while at first when WARFARE was announced they said it would have maps 2 times the size of our biggest onslaught maps and would span multiple maps (by the use of a special loading system.) where eventually one player would be pushed to his base where the match would change into a more assault like gameplay... well that promise didn't stick.
