Suggestions wanted- name the next Chaos

Well, it seems to be the thing to do lately, so we're going to jump on the bandwagon. This thread asks for your opinion about naming the next version of the Chaos mod. We'd be grateful if you took a moment to read and comment.

Regardless of what we pick, we'll probably still be referred to as 'ChaosUT3' and 'CUT3', and of course that's fine, it's just easy. But we're still interested in picking a cool official name. Ya' know, something for our tattoos.

In Unreal so far, we've had 'ChaosUT', 'ChaosUT2', and 'ChaosUT2:Evolution'. So 'ChaosUT3' seems an obvious choice. There are some however, who wanted to remove the "UT" part from the name (maybe make up some t-shirts and caps). Some wanted to have a sub-title of sorts (like the 'Evolution' in our last version), others did not. So in the interest of exploring these ideas, we've run 'round in circles and got nowhere. :p

The leading candidate at the moment, to mark our 10th year, is

Chaos III: 10th Anniversary Edition

And more examples include:

CUT^3
Chaos3:Entropy
CHAOS 3: Insanity
CHAOS 3: Disaster
CHAOS 3: Blood Rush
CHAOS 3: Ablation
CHAOS 3: ProxyMine Fiesta

But then of course the '3' really only refers to the title of the game UT3. It's actually the 5th version of Chaos, and the 4th in UT. So other suggestions included:

Chaos IV
Chaos V
Chaos V - 10th Anniversary Edition
Chaos V - Decade
Chaos V - Decade Edition
Chaos X: Decade of Mayhem
Chaos T.A.E. (Tenth Anniversary Edition)
Chaos T.A.R. (10th anniversary release)
Chaos: Dream#5

As you can see, we're all over the map. If you have ideas on this you'd like to share, we'd love to hear them.

By the way - we're still seeking a web designer fluent in MySQL and PHP.

Hmm.. The 4th in UT? was there a 1.5 somewhere for UT2003? UT2004 was ChaosUT2..

After the Jailbreak debacle (http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=182281&highlight=jailbreak) at BU, I remarked at how smart the Chaos team was to use the number of the engine so ChaosUT3 worked out perfectly when they dropped the '2007' and changed to UT3. Its not likely that anyone will remember the subname... wasn't ChaosUT2 subnamed "Evolution" or something? As you say, you'll just be known as "CUT3" or "ChaosUT3" so I'd say just stick with that.

It's always smart to have the original game in the title so not to confuse gamers, especially when you have a mod that is built on many different engines.

lol now thats what I call pointless peripheral data. I do like the idea though.

You could put the 'X' centered behind the ChaosUT in a larger font so the center of the 'X' is below ChaosUT, then center decade over the bottom portion of the 'X' in a slightly smaller font then ChaosUT.

Though I would drop the UT from the logo and make it just 'ChaoS', basicly to put a little chaos in the logo and give it some structure. Hmm that seems like a self contridictory thing to say.

Well, for one, this is the 4th Unreal Tournament. Therefore the 4th Chaos for UT. The 1st one was for Quake making for a total of 5 Chaos's.

I'd prefer Chaos III: Decade, as you have both the version number of three and the year number of 10.
It would look awesome with the III in a similar style to UT3's logo, but spikey metal like the current logos.

well yes and no. X is a roman numeral for 10 yes, but a decade is ten years not the number ten... so it's not quite redundant. Still I see your point.

Well both referred to the fact that it was 10 years of chaos, as thats what the X means.

Actually, we wouldn't mind at all, it'd be more like a compliment. But just like guys on the Chaos team, we always worry about wasting anyone's time. So just like we say to everyone else, please don't put any more work into the concept part than you can live with us not using.

As of this moment, we're leaning towards that as our next logo. And we have variations of the theme. That was created by our trial (for now) member MacTom27, based on an earlier logo by Spa.

Actually, Mr. Crotale has already donated one killer piece of work, and we plan on sharing that in a later news post.

I just like Chaos UT3. It's simple and fits with the product that Chaos is part of. Plus, it could be read as "ChaosUT 3" which also fits down the line of the next Chaos.

Unreal went back to basics by using Unreal III instead of Unreal 2k7, why not: CHAOS. Bold that bad boy, shine it up, slap a badass skull on it and that's it. No meaningless adages or colon-fests, just reinvent the name.
