It will be interesting if UT3 looks worse on my current rig than 2K4!! Currently I can play 2K4 at max settings and max res (1920x1200) on my Dell 2407 and rail the fps at 60 with vsync on.

Since I'm sure with my Athlon 4000/7600GT combo I will have to dial way back on resolution and texture settings, the fact that I won't be in the native res on my LCD combined with low textures settings might end up looking fugly! It will be interesting to see how bad it is! According to BerZ's calculator, it looks like it will blow.

I'm holding out for Penryn's and the next-gen Nvidias so its going to have to look like sheite for a couple months. I can't believe the folks that are building rigs right now! Don't you guys know that 45nm Core 2's are coming out in a month??

By that logic there's always something good coming out if you wait...

When you find a good price on hardware that you want, pounce on it. It's as simple as that. Building an entirely new computer each time you want to upgrade is costly and a huge hassle.

lol yeah that would be kinda funny if that would happen...but you can fix that...upgrade ur computer :P

That makes sense if you don't follow computer hardware. If you follow CPU roadmaps, the Penryn's are a fairly major jump in performance per watt that will be out before the full game ships and the non-Extreme editions probably won't cost much more than their counterparts in the current lineup.

True, that works if you have predominately decent parts without one that is a major bottleneck.

unofficial Crysis Minimum Reqs:

CPU:
Intel P4 2.8Ghz or AMD equivalent RAM: 1GB Video Card: 6800GT (256mb) or ATI/AMD Radeon 9800 Pro (256mb)

I doubt there's any huge difference for UT3.

HyPeR-X;25003263']Do you know that the 45nm intel CPU's won't bring a lot of new stuff? It's just a die shrink which might have an added SSE instruction set. Ofcourse it will be a bit faster then the current CPU's, but after the 45nm they will an even smaller CPU which runs a bit faster then the one they just released ...

In the land of computers you can never stay up-to-date (Unless you spend thousands of dollars) Just because stuff is outdated within a month.

Yep, they probably won't be that massive but paired with a next gen Nvidia card, it could be substantial. If you need to upgrade for some reason other than UT3, then it makes sense not to wait. If you're upgrading for UT3, then you could spend around the same $ before the game comes out to get more performance. Dead... horse... being... beaten...

From Paul Otellini at IDF:
"We expect our Penryn processors to provide up to a 20 percent performance increase while improving energy efficiency," he said.
