Is anyone going to be making maps for the ps3 version? I know a lot of you are pc gamers, but if you have both and are making maps it would be awesome for people to start making mods/maps for the ps3, so is anyone planning on doing it?

If the conversion tool is there with the PC Editor then hell yea.
I still don't know what their plan is for this.

I doubt there will be a conversion tool. Also making maps for PS3 you must realize that it has a much more limited memory space than PC so you need to be careful. People won't need to make maps specifically for PS3, if it works on PC than it should on PS3 but as I said it may not work at the same speed and have memory limits.

You pretty much have to target your map for each platform.
The design can be similar, but many of the assets will have to be reworked.

Yea, if you were to just decrease the texture resolutions it should be enough for most maps.

Yea everything I'll make for the PC I'll probably port over to the PS3 aswell.

How do you get the program(UE3) to create maps for UT3? I am trying to find it, or am I going to have to go buy the PC version? I have the PS3 version and am very interested in trying to create some maps. Any help would be greatful! Thanks!

You can't make maps with the PS3 version. You need the PC version for mapping and modding. Sorry.

I fully plan to release anything I make for PC and PS3. I play primarily on the PS3, but I also own the PC version for mapping. Right now I'm working on a map that is inspired by a map from another PS3 game. And when I feel it's time for it to be tested on the PS3, I know a few people with PS3's who will be helping me.

This basically means making two maps instead of one, but that is fine.

Also for eg. I do not own PS3, so I can not test my maps for it. And most of people here are too lazy to beta test maps that are in beta forum. All feedback i am getting here is usually: "oh pretty" "oh too dark". Then after release people complain about small errors, but time to find them was when map was waiting in beta for 2 weeks.

So YOU PS3 users if you want quality (or any real) maps for PS3, you need to get together and offer service to really test beta maps for PS3. You need also find some skilled mapper that has PS3 and PC and is willing to write detailed tutorial about differences and optimization for PS3.

Maps for PS3 will not make self, YOU want them there, you need to do something to help moving them to PS3.

How do you get the program(UE3) to create maps for UT3?

You require the PC version of UT3 and a decent computer system to run it, the editor has higher system requirements than just the game alone.

My DM-Hypoxia map should play well on the PS3 and XB360. I'll publish versions for these platforms when I get the tools and locate someone with a PS3 to test it.

Do you think once this thing with Epic and Sony is done, they will allow a stand alone version of the editor? Cause I really do not want to have to buy UT3 for my PC just to get the UE3...

Maybe if I put my PS3 UT3 disk in my CPU it will be on there? lmfao

You can't have a "stand alone" version of the editor.

- The editor is part of the UT3.exe game executable.
- You still require all of the game content to be able to create your map on the PC. Otherwise you won't have any actors, materials, staticmeshes, or anything to insert into your map.

So you need the entire game on your PC to create maps.
And Epic won't be able to give the entire PC game for free to PS3 people otherwise that will cause a major uproar by those people who had to buy the PC version.

Could you elaborate a little on that for us?
I have a friend with the GEforce8800GTX and his UT3 on the PC doesn't do one thing that my PS3 cannot do other than maybe a little more reflection on the pickups.

How is making a map for the PS3 going to be any different than making it for the PC? If anything the Cell should be able to handle more textures and meshes in one level VS your standard dual core PC...

Do you have any information as to how you came to this conclusion or is this just another comment boasting the graphics cards costing more than an 80GB PS3?

Im not here to flame anyone, as I own the PC version and the PS3 version, I plan to pump out maps for both, only reason I picked up a copy for both platforms... just I hear all this talk from PC owners about how much better they run UT3 and every time it's been hot air, and if anything the PS3 playing UT3 in hi-def was a far smoother experience than on the PC.

So if the PC version really beats the PS3, how does it?
You all do know that Nvidia and Sony made the graphics chip for the PS3 optimized just for the PS3s 8-core Cell right?

So just exactly what kind of computer + the newest GEforce, is actually going to run maps a PS3 couldn't handle... Because from what I see, you would need the fastest quad core around plus all your ram slots full of the biggest and the baddest just to improve minor details, and I don't think any of us users out here wanting to make games for the PS3 own a 5000 dollar computer just to game on.

Thanks a bunch, like I said, not looking for a firefight, just an informed opinion from someone who actually makes maps, and has used both the PS3(in HD) and a new PC with the best Geforce to play UT3 on...

PS anyone with the standard 2 cents to throw in, please don't, I don't want fanboy arguing, just technical answers from real UT3 mappers, thanks again
